Jaisalmer City Guide | India Travel Video in Rajasthan
Join us as we visit Jaisalmer in this city travel guide covering the best things to do and top attractions in the 'Golden City' of Rajasthan, India. Located nearby the Pakistan border and at the doorsteps of the Thar Desert 'The Great Indian Desert' this small sized jewel of a city is a welcome change for those arriving from bustling Delhi, Jodhpur or Jaipur. Jaisalmer Fort is one of the most amazing places I've ever visited in India. As a living fort you'll find a plethora of shops selling souvenirs, restaurants, hotels and Jain temples. You can get lost meandering down narrow alleys and enjoy the best views of the city along the edges of the walls or by having rooftop tea or dinner. You'll also want to budget time to visit the Thar Desert on a camel safari ride where you'll pass by gypsy villages and enjoy local cuisine and tea prepared over a fire. Come find out why Jaisalmer (जैसलमेर) is one of our favorite cities in Rajasthan, India.
Things to do in Jaisalmer Travel Guide:
1) Jaisalmer Fort (जैसलमेर फोर्ट) to shop for souvenirs and wandering around

Jaisalmer City Guide | India Travel Video in Rajasthan Transcript:
After an 18 hour overnight train ride from Delhi, we finally reached Jaisalmer, a city of yellow sandstone that lies in the middle of the Thar Desert. This proved to be my favourite stop of our month long adventure in India; now let me take you on a tour and show you why.
With so much colour all around us, it wasn’t long before we were lured into a shop and found ourselves picking out souvenirs in the form of wall hangings, pillow cases, and a small painting or two. Our luggage gained an extra couple of pounds in this city alone.
But it wasn’t all shopping in Jaisalmer. We also made time to do a bit of sightseeing inside the fort, and one of the main attractions here are the Jain Temples.
Another thing we’d recommend doing in Jaisalmer is having dinner on a rooftop restaurant while the sun sets. There are plenty of restaurants scattered across the city and the views you get as the sun goes down are amazing. We chose one at random and it included a live music performance.
The following day was all about visiting the Thar Desert on an afternoon camel trek. It was a nice change of pace from the city, and we got to enjoy a traditional meal cooked over a campfire.
The next morning we went back to the fort because we just couldn’t stay away. I visited the Jaisalmer Fort Palace Museum & Heritage Center, while Sam and his mom picked up a few additional gifts for family back home.

INDIA & Rajasthan
Rajasthan by Saro di Bartolo and Giulietta Laconeo
If you want to see the real & natural colors of India go to Rajasthan.
Rajasthan is one of the most magnificent and ethnically diverse states in India which is known around the world for its cultural legacy.
With its golden sand dunes, mighty forts, lush gardens, majestic lakes and fabulous handicrafts, Rajasthan is a land of magical fantasies and rich cultural heritage with complex arrays of mysticism and brilliance!
in India, colour is not merely a means of ornamenting the body, artefacts or architecture. It is an integral part of all facets of life, incorporated into the everyday fabric of Indian society and richly imbued with a plethora of symbolic nuances. This phenomenon is most apparent perhaps in the traditional garments worn by the women of various communities across the Indian subcontinent, wherein the use of colour has historically served as a marker of social and cultural identity in this vast land peopled by many communities. In the Vedic period (2000 BC- 600 BC), particular colours came to be associated with specific castes (a system of social stratification based on hereditary occupation), a phenomenon evidenced by the use of the Sanskrit word varna (colour) to denote caste. Although the caste system no longer exists in India per se, clothing traditions in India often reflect historic caste-colour associations. White came to be associated with the purity and light and was reserved for the use of the highest castes, i.e. the Brahmins. However, exceptions to this norm may be seen in the western and southern regions of India where traditional Brahmin saris were often brightly coloured.
Across India, white is extensively worn by men, although usually in a somewhat tinted form or with another colour as an embellishment. Pure white is usually worn only as a sign of mourning by men and women alike and accordingly, widows in north India traditionally wear white saris devoid of any coloured embellishment or patterning. Married women generally never wear any white coloured garments. In some instances, as in the sanetar sari of Gujarat, they often wear a combination of red and white which is representative of both the aspects of masculine and feminine. In other communities, such as the Santhal tribals, white is seen as a symbol of chastity and accordingly, the bride usually wears a khandi i.e. a white sari with a purple border. Likewise, Assamese brides can be seen in the mekhala chaddar, a white sari embellished with intricate thread work and zari (metallic threads). The colour white is also seen as a negation of splendour and therefore signifies simplicity. Thus Hindu priests often wear white as do the members of the austere Jain Svetambara sect who wear sveta or white clothing. Red was traditionally associated with the the Kshatriya warrior caste.
Regarded as the colour of religion and asceticism, saffron yellow or orange was widely worn by Hindu monks and mendicants as well as by other individuals in order to symbolise their having relinquished their caste and family to lead a spiritual life aimed at releasing themselves from the endless round of rebirths. In north India, yellow is also thought to signifies prosperity due to its association with good harvests of wheat and mustard. Therefore, in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, the maternal grandmother of the bride usually gifts a piri or yellow sari to the bride for the lagan or wedding while the groom dons a golden yellow dhoti. In the Kangra region, the maternal aunt used to stitch a yellow full-length ling-chola or tunic during the once-lengthy pheras or nuptial ceremony. Yellow was also regarded as a highly auspicious colour and accordingly, Hindu deities are often dressed in the golden pitambaram. Shawls or head coverings of the same colour are also draped on the bride or groom in various communities –a yellow odhni or shawl is placed on the grooms shoulders during the wedding ceremony in Uttar Pradesh while elaborately embroidered phulkari shawls are given to the bride in Punjab. In the eastern regions of the Indian subcontinent, on the first day of the Hindu wedding ceremony, the bride is washed in turmeric to ritually purify her, during and after which she wears a yellow sari.
Hand crafted and hand woven Banarasi sarees from master weavers in Varanasi
Banarasi saris are saris made in Varanasi, a city which is also called Benares. These saris are historically considered to be among the finest saris in India and are known for their gold and silver brocade or zari, fine silk and opulent embroidery, and being highly sought after. These saris are made of finely woven silk and are decorated with intricate design, and because of these engravings, these saris are relatively heavy. Their special characteristics are Mughal inspired designs such as intricate intertwining floral and foliate motifs, kalga and bel, a string of upright leaves called jhallar at the outer, edge of border is a characteristic of these sarees. Other distinctive features are Heavy gold work, Compact weaving, figures with small details, metallic visual effects, pallus, jal and mina work. These saris are an inevitable part of any Indian bride's trousseau.
Depending upon the intricacy of designs and patterns, a sari can take anywhere from 15 days to a one month and sometimes up to six months to complete. Banarasi saris are mostly worn by Indian women on important occasions such as when attending a wedding and are expected to be complemented by the woman's best jewelry. Today there are four main varieties of Banarasi sari, which includes pure silk (Katan), Organza (Kora) with Zari and silk; Georgette, and Shattir, and according to design process, they are divided into categories like, Jangla, Tanchoi, Vaskat, Cutwork, Tissue and Butidar.
Over the years, the Banarasi Silk handloom industry has been incurring huge losses because of the unfair competition from mechanised units producing the 'Baranasi silk sarees' at a much faster rate and at much cheaper cost, another source of competition has been sarees made of cheaper synthetic alternatives to silk. In 2009, after two years of wait, weaver associations in Uttar Pradesh, secured Geographical Indication (GI) rights for the 'Banaras Brocades and Sarees'. GI is an intellectual property right, which identifies a good as originating in a certain region where a given quality, reputation or other characteristic of the product is essentially attributable to its geographical origin.
Varanasi also commonly known as Benares or Benaras and Kashi, is a city situated on the banks of the River Ganges in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, 320 kilometres (199 mi) southeast of state capital Lucknow. It is regarded as a holy city by Hindus, Buddhists and Jains. It is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world and the oldest in India.

A Short Film 'Bachapan Tak' Childhood in Rajasthan
#Jaipur #UNESCO #WorldHeritage #Centre
The fortified city of Jaipur
=====================
How is childhood in Rajasthan? The film, which was filmed in a village near Jaipur in Rajasthan, is very much liked. No other city in the country does not provide the perfect mix of old world charm and new world vibrantness like the pink city of Jaipur. No matter how many times you've gone there, the compelling city always calls you back. If you are coming to Jaipur at any time soon, you can already decide to check the RDB point in the Nahargarh or forts and palaces, but there are many other things in comparison to normal tourism activities in the city.
1. Take an evening stroll in the Statue Circle Garden and capture the mesmerizing allure of the city. The gentle breeze and fountains make it a perfect setting right in the heart of the city.
2. While you relax at Statue Circle Garden, do not forget to sip on a glass of cold-coffee from the small dairy at the corner that sells the best coffee in Jaipur. The thick coffee, with ice-cream, chocolate syrup, and lots of chocolate chips is to die for!
3. Relive the old days at Indian Coffee House, situated at M. I. Road. The old paint, faded decor, and waiters wearing turbans will take you back to the days when intellectual discussions would take place over a steaming cup of coffee!
4. Enjoy a Kathak performance on a full moon night, at the Deewan-e-Aam of Amber Fort.
5. Visit the Amber fort and palace, an extravagant and enormous example of Mughal and Rajput architecture.
6. Stop by the Rajasthali Handicraft Emporium on M.I. road, a flagship brand of the Rajasthani government formed to promote handicrafts. From terracotta pottery, paintings, silver and lac jewelry and Kota Doria sarees, the Rajasthali Handicraft Emporium stocks them all.
7. Go to Nahargarh's RTDC open-roof restaurant in the evening, for a perfect combination of chilled beer and a view of the magnificent city from high above!
8. There's no excuse to not try the famous Jaipur ki Kachori at Lakshmi Misthan Bhandar in Johri Bazaar and Doodh Mishthan Bhandar, in Lal Kothi.
9. If it's raining, visit Jal Mahal, a palace in the middle of Man Sagar lake. The majestic palace looks surreal under the night sky.
10. Treat yourself to amazing cakes, pastries, and muffins at Zolocrust, the bakery at Hotel Clarks Amer. Everything is freshly made to order and you can watch your dessert being prepared right in front of you!
11. Built using white marble with a backdrop of the Moti Dungari hills, Jaipur's Birla Mandir is a masterpiece of art. The calm and tranquility in the air makes it the best place for some peaceful alone time.
