Travel INDONESIA. Malang. Episode 3
Malang is the second biggest city in East Java. During the period of Dutch colonization, Malang was a popular destination for European residents. And it has remained quite popular tourist spot. Kampung Warna Warni Jodipan is a complex of colourful villages that once were a real slum. Basically, there were people living in old, bad-looking houses by the river, the area itself was unpleasant and smelly. But then came the government project to renovate this place. There was a financial support, so houses and the area of the riverside villages were improved. Moreover, there were discussions organized to decide about the design. And locals thought - why not to go with the colours? This is why now you can see bright-colored villages on both sides of the Jembatan Brantas bridge. But on the opposite side there is a blue village. Yeah, seems that this is the place where rainbows end!
There is an entrance fee in every village of 3.000 IDR. And what to see there? On the walls there is 3D art, some monuments and selfie spots - great for those who love photography. Moreover, locals have opened small eateries in their house, so you can enjoy the views on the terrace while having a traditional meal. And can you imagine that this place became famous just because of Instagram photos? Come here and see this for yourself!

JAGO TAMPLE | Relics Of The Singasari Kingdom In Malang City East Java.
Jago Temple is located 22 kilometers east of Malang City, precisely in Jago Hamlet, Tumpang Village, Tumpang District, Malang Regency, East Java.
In the book Negarakertagama and pararaton, History of the Jago Temple was built since 1268 AD, and was only completed in 1280 AD. This temple was built to honor King Singasari, Sri Jaya Wisnuwardhana (1248 - 1268), the fourth king of the Singasari kingdom by his son and at the same time the king who ruled at that time, namely kertanegara king.
Jago Temple, according to Negarakretagama called Jajaghu, is a place where the king Wisnuwardhana or Ranggawuni was enthroned which involved the year 1190 C or around 1268 AD.
According to the Negarakertagama and Pararaton books, the name of this temple is actually Jajaghu. In the poem 41 gatra 4th Negarakertagama explained that King Wisnuwardhana who ruled Singasari adheres to Shiva Buddhism, which is a religious school which is a fusion of Hinduism and Buddhism.
The flow developed during the reign of the Kingdom of Singasari, a kingdom located about 20 km from Jago Temple. Jago Temple is filled with relief panels carved neatly from the feet to the top wall of the room. There are almost no blank fields, because all are filled with various ornaments in the fabric of stories that contain elements of the release of departure.
This reinforces the notion that the construction of the Jago Temple is closely related to the death of Sri Jaya Wisnuwardhana.
In accordance with the religion embraced by King Wisnuwardhana, namely Shiva Buddha, the reliefs at Jago Temple contain both Hindu and Buddhist teachings. Buddha's teachings are reflected in the reliefs of the Kamandaka Tantri story and the Kunjarakarna story carved on the lowest terrace. On the second porch wall, carved the Kunjarakarna story and Mahabarata excerpts containing Hindu teachings, namely Parthayajna and Arjuna Wiwaha. The third terrace is filled with further reliefs from the Arjunawiwaha story. The body walls of the temple are also filled with reliefs of Hindu stories, namely the battle of Krishna with Kalayawana.
In the center of the front court, about 6 m from the foot of the temple, there is a large stone carved into the shape of a giant statue mat, with a stone diameter of about 1 m. At its peak there is a lotus flower sculpture extending from the bulb.
On the west side of the temple's courtyard there is an eight-armed Amoghapasa statue as a symbol of the king of Sri Jaya Wisnuwardhana behind the back of a giant head-shaped throne. The head of the statue has disappeared and the arms have been broken.

The Ancient Jago Temple in Malang - East Java
Jajaghu or Jago temple is located 24 Km to the east of Malang city. This temple was constructed in 1275-1300 AD
Jajaghu or Jago temple was constructed in 1275 – 1300 AD. It believed as the burial place of King Wisnuwardhana ashes, the fourth king of Singosari kingdom. It is extremely interesting that the temple has ornament similarities to those of Penataran temple in Blitar Regency
Principally, this temple is belongs to Buddhist character. The building which we see today, however, is probably the result of a renovation carried out in the 1340's in order from the Sumatran prince Adityawarman, a blood relative of Hayam Wuruk.
The temple, which faces to west, has a rectangular ground plan measuring 23 X 14 meters. Since the roof and much of the body of the main sanctuary have collapsed, it can only be estimated that the original height of the monument was about 15 meters. Access to the principal shrine is by two stairways, which lead up from the front of the building via three receding terraced levels, creating the illusion of ascending a mountain slope.

10 Top Must Visit Places in Surabaya Indonesia
10 Top Must Visit Places in Surabaya Indonesia
Suramadu Bridge
Perhaps more than its functionality, this bridge is appreciated for its architectural beauty and constructional feat. Suramadu Bridge, which is the longest in Southeast Asia by far, connects Surabaya with the island of Madura. Not only can you cross over to the previously inaccessible island in about 30 minutes, you’ll also get to enjoy the scenic journey.
House of Sampoerna
This museum packs together national history, local economy, and personal stories and presents its collection inside a heritage building that’s a landmark in itself. It represents the story of Indonesia’s earliest and most popular clover cigarette (or kretek) brands, along with the owning family’s wealth and glam — we’re talking Rolls Royce collection and glamorous traditional heirlooms. Tourists can also sign up for their bus tour through the city’s historical landmark called Surabaya Heritage Track.
Majapahit Hotel
A building older than its home country, Majapahit Hotel was first established by the Dutch in 1910 as Hotel Oranje. The telltale elegant colonial architecture and manicured garden make this hotel a pleasant spot to sit back, relax, and enjoy being served like a Javanese royal. Even non-staying guests are coming in for high tea at the classic, charming establishment.
Cheng Hoo Mosque
Surabaya holds a huge Chinese population living and assimilating among locals. This cultural interaction begets unique customs and landmarks, including the Cheng Hoo Mosque, a stunning pagoda-style mosque with a very vivid oriental architecture and Muslim religious symbols. This mosque was built to honour the Chinese admiral who helped spread Islam in the country.
Sanggar Agung Temple
This temple, also known as Hong San Tan Temple, is eclectic in its style and function. As a house of worship for Buddhist, Tao, and Kong Hu Cu followers, this temple shows influences from Chinese, Javanese, Balinese, and Thai cultures in its architecture. The grand temple’s complex features a monumental statue of Guan Yin that’s 20 metres tall, supported by gigantic statues of dragons with the sea in the background.
Ampel Mosque
Established in 1421, this is the oldest mosque in East Java, built by the revered Sunan Ampel, who is one of the nine clerics credited for the expansion of Islam in Java and whose tomb lies in the very complex. Other than its own impressive architecture, the area around Ampel Mosque has also become an Arab District, lined up with Middle Eastern buildings, shops, and food.
Submarine Monument
A massive submarine in the middle of the city is indeed an unmissable odd sight that sparks curiosity. The Submarine Monument is an actual warcraft, sourced from Russia and used by the Indonesian navy shortly after independence. Now that it has retired, the submarine serves as a popular tourist attraction that tells stories about the nation’s maritime history.
Ria Kenjeran Beach
Faced with a sprawling and dynamic urban area like Surabaya, people can easily forget the city also has splendid natural beauty. As a coastal town, Surabaya has its share of idyllic beaches, including the popular and well-developed Ria Kenjeran half an hour away from the city centre. Besides the magnificent sunrise and sunset views, the beach area also has various entertainment, rides, facilities, and accommodation.
Heroes Monument
Due to its importance in the movement for independence, Surabaya is nicknamed the ‘City of Heroes’. Not much of the independence struggles can still be seen in the modern city, but the Heroes Monument is an unmissable landmark dedicated to the people who fought for the country. Tourists can also visit the 10 November Museum in the lower part of the monument, commemorating the Battle of Surabaya on 10th November 1945, which is still celebrated nationwide as the Day of Heroes.
Atom Market
Mega-malls and modern shopping centres are in Surabaya’s every corner, but Atom Market still holds a special place throughout the city’s history. Established in 1972, many locals and tourists still prefer this market to get cheap and locally made goods, from fashion to electronics. The market also serves as a large culinary centre where tourists can sample all kinds of traditional sweets, snacks, and meals.

Hotel Tugu Malang | Tips Hotel Murah
Malang, a city awarded as the loveliest town in South East Asia during the colonial times. Until this date it has remained one of Indonesia's most beautiful cities, drifting along in an air of nostalgia. It is where old Dutch planters and civil servants used to retire to a life of ease and luxury, surrounded by hilly apple and tea plantations. It is also the departure point for an early morning trip to the magnificent Mt. Bromo.
Tugu Malang is located at the heart of the old town, looking out to the main monument of Indonesia's struggle for independence and a beautiful lotus pond park.
Tugu Malang houses a vast, priceless collection of antiques influenced by the Javanese Babah Peranakan (the hundreds-years-old mixed culture between the Chinese migrants in Java and the native Javanese). Tugu Malang is more than just a hotel; it has become most indigenous, most essential in experiencing the beautiful richness of the history of Java.tipshotelmurah.com
