Tour of The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota - High Definition
Jon Olson, a Black Hills native, gives a behind the scenes tour of The Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota is the worlds largest mammoth research facility where you can tour an active paleontological dig site and view Ice Age fossils exhibited as they are found.
Travel back to the time when Ice Age mammoth, camel, and giant short-faced bear roamed the Great Plains of North America. Imagine a sudden collapse of a 60 foot deep karst sinkhole. Bubbling from the bottom, a warm spring percolates through the layers of limestone, now creating a large steep-sided pond. Stand on the edge of discovery and walk where mammoths, bears, American lions and other Ice Age animals walked.
Mammoth Site Tour in Hot Springs, South Dakota
4-25-17
Take a tour of the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs, South Dakota. The site was discovered in 1974 when digging began for a housing development. That project was scrapped and the site became an important archeological dig site since then that is still uncovering ancient clues to the distant past in the Hot Springs area. The site is entirely enclosed to protect it from the weather and allow digging throughout the year in a controlled climate.

Visiting the Awesome Mammoth Site in Hot Springs South Dakota....Sturgis 79
Te video does not do it justice. I guess I am going to start looking for a new camera. one that has a good zoom feature. Gopros are alright but not ideal for many shots.
This was amazing to me. I had never heard of it before. It really makes you think back. A huge footprint in history and just amazing what the have done there so far. This obviously has nothing to do with motorcycles, but I thought it was worth a visit, and it was! I admit at first I had trouble believing it was real, but it is very real! If you are ever in the Hot Springs South Dakota area you have to pay this site a visit. You will not regret it, I promise.

The Mammoth Site of Hot Springs, South Dakota - YouTube HD - pt. 1
When I booked our room in Hot Springs South Dakota, I didn't even realize that a place like Mammoth Site existed, let alone it would be so close to where we stayed.
What an amazing place, I love things like this, a glimpse into a past I can't even imagine or picture, a window on our history.
Highly recommended for all ages...

The Healing Waters of Hot Springs, South Dakota
This reality and travel clip introduces the topic of healing and miracles, with a visit to a famous healing spot from history: the hot springs of Hot Springs, South Dakota. Hot Springs, South Dakota is noted for exactly what the name claims: natural hot springs. In fact, the hot mineral water not only bubbles out of the earth, it creates a beautiful mossy hot waterfall and an actual stream of hot water. The stream passes through a gully between the sandstone buildings of the small town of Hot Springs, and the red sandstone cliff opposite. The video clip shows you all of these natural and developed features.
In the past Native Americans, and subsequently American settlers, believed in the healing powers of the hot mineral springs of this region. There were not always valid medical treatments for many diseases, and the soothing effect of the hot springs often seemed to bring relief. Before the region was settled by outsiders, there was a major battle between the Sioux and Cheyenne on nearby Battle Mountain for control of the hot springs. Eventually, the Native Americans agreed to share the spot.
As the popularity of mineral springs for medical treatment has declined in the face of more specific and effective medications, so has the popularity of Hot Springs, South Dakota. However, its waters are now free to all who visit this somewhat remote spot, regardless of ethnic background.
Human beings of all races have suffered illness since the beginning of time, and have sought a variety of means for healing. Whether from natural hot springs, prescribed medication, or miraculous intervention, all healing comes from God.
