Brief History: The chocolate factory opened over a century ago after founder Walter Lowney relocated his business from Boston to Mansfield.
Architects Dean & Main designed the original structure in 1903 in the classical revival style and architect Lewis Bacon designed the craftsman-style second building in 1910. The company passed through a number of hands over the decades.
The Rexall Drug Co. purchased the factory in the 1930s after the death of Lowney’s widow Nettie. Then Welch Candy in 1955 and Nabisco acquired in 1963.
Eventually the property was bought out by Archer Daniels Midland, which manufactured chocolate there until 2010.

Earliest circulating video of DMB at the Gorge. Gives you a nice perspective of the venue back in '99. This was the first year they played more a two night stand there....

Witt opened in 1939, serving as the high school until Stafford High opened in 1968. After Stafford High opened, the school that is now Witt became Stafford Middle School for sixth- through eighth-graders. In 1985, it was renamed the Earl M. Witt Middle School. When the current Stafford Middle School was opened in 1992, fourth and fifth grades were moved there and it took on its current name.
