New Jersey, Our Home
The Jersey Shore before...and AFTER Sandy.
Dear America,
We are the REAL New Jersey. We are NOT the cast of MTV's Jersey Shore or Jerseylicious or the Real Housewives of New Jersey. We are hard-working people who happen to live in a beautiful state that is often the butt of biased comedians' jokes. But that is because they don't know us; they only know the stereotyped Jerseyite.
We are educated. We are resilient. We take great pride in our state. Our parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents were immigrants who worked in refineries, docks and train stations. We are the sons and daughters of blue collar workers that allowed (by hard work , sacrifice, and sweat) New York City's economic development to occur. We are the grandchildren and children of police officers, teachers, railroad workers and firefighters.
We also take amazing pride in our homes. Why? Because we have worked many jobs to afford them in a state that is very expensive to live in due to our resources. You see, others save up to visit here; we have to work that much harder to live here. Yet, we relish our mountains, we enjoy being near forests and streams, and our New Jersey Coastline is the most amazing natural site. Though a cliché, our backyards are the vacation spots for other people. From Keansburg Amusement Park to Atlantic City, we offer a plethora of experiences enhanced by the majestic and natural beauty of our beaches and the friendly demeanor of our people.
And when our backs are up against the wall, we will come together and work toward a common goal. So pray for us, assist us if you feel inclined to with donations....and then WATCH US as we get through this difficult challenge victoriously, We will be ready to serve frozen custard, funnel cake and salt water taffy with the sounds of: the Seaside Park Roller Coaster, Atlantic City Casino's, Bon Jovi playing at Asbury Park, screams from Runaway Rapids in Keansburg, horse and buggy rides in Cape May, the yelling kids on the Himalaya at Point Pleasant or the sound of Jetskis roaring off the water in Sandy Hook and Belmar in the background.
We are New Jersey...and we will get through this with our diligence and the Grace of God.

Berkeley Island County Park - Bayville, NJ (Reopen)
A rainy day at the newly reopened Berkeley Island County Park in Bayville, New Jersey. Splash Pad Spray Park video to follow.
Tragedy at Route 70 Bridge, Brick NJ
At the new route 70 bridge over the Manasquan river, while tearing down the old bridge a barge fliped over and trapped 1 man under water yesterday.
There was a Coast Guard hellicopter and also police and rescue units from Brick, Wall, Brielle, Berkley and Point Pleasant.
They were getting the Monmouth County Sheriff diving teem ready to try to rescue the guy stuck under the barge.
-Asbury Park Press article-
BRICK — The 37-year-old construction worker killed when the barge he was working on flipped over in the Manasquan River Wednesday drowned, State Police said today, a worker for George Harms Construction Co., James P. Lovely, of Aberdeen, was working under the old Route 70 bridge at about 4 p.m. Wednesday on a 20-by-50-foot barge, which was connected to a push-boat.
Dismantling of the 71-year-old drawbridge spanning the river between Brielle and Brick had begun Monday, and crews were removing the steel span that lifted the drawbridge.
When both vessels overturned, a second man, Chris Ramano, 32, of Brick, who was operating the 25-foot push-boat managed to escape. Lovely, who was wearing a life preserver, attempted to jump from the barge.
An autopsy, conducted Thursday night by the Ocean County medical examiner, showed Lovely, trapped under the barge, had drowned, said State Police Sgt. Stephen Jones.
We might not know definitively what happened under the boat but know that he had no catastrophic injuries from being struck by any debris,'' Jones said.

Holly Park Inn, Bayville NJ, A Brief History, New Jersey Shore
Bayville NJ doesn't usually find itself on the History Channel. But like most NJ Shore Towns, Bayville holds claim to LOTS of history including many historic businesses, some surviving today in one shape or another. This video / photo slide documentary tells the story of just one, the infamous Holly Park Inn (aka Hotel, Big Stash's, Charley Nobles, PJ's, Windows on the Bay and currently The Cove. But Bayville is also famous for the Royal Pines Hotel (Al Capone era), Al Leiter (famed NY Yankees ball player), Vic's Greenhouse's (closed just a few years ago), Casagrand's General Store (Wawa before we knew what it was), Moore's Farm Market, and a Hotel Resort which was never realized, but to name a few.
