Jackie Leven - Marble City Bar
My first song I ever heard from Jackie in 1995. From album Forbidden songs of the dying west
Marble City Bar
If you ever go to the marble city
Of Kilkenny in the month of May
Remember me to the bank of the river
Where I first noticed I was fading away...
There is a castle with children a-playing
There is a father who will say hello
He doesn't have to -- that's just the way
He's feeling --
And that's such a long way to go
Chorus
Oh don't pick me 'cos I'm not playing
I 'm just staring into space
I can't hear a single word you're saying
There' s nothing happening behind this face
I' m just a man and I'm on my own
I hear strange news from another star
I' m just a man and I'm on my own
Dreaming of the marble city bar
Well I crossed the bridge
And I walked down slowly
Through the reeds to the watermill
The sun was cold in the time of losing
I stood all alone in the Irish chill
I was tempted there to take my life
The water flashed by like the blade of a knife
The roar of the rive rose up to the sky
And I knew nobody would hear my cry...
'Hey Jackie -- we were looking for you
You'll catch your death out here,
And your beers getting cold --
So why don' t you come back in?'
Chorus
Oh don't pick me 'cos I'm not playing
I 'm just staring into space
I can't hear a single word you're saying
There' s nothing happening behind this face
I' m just a man and I'm on my own
I hear strange news from another star
I' m just a man and I'm on my own
Dreaming of the marble city bar

Bollards Bar & Bistro - 31/32 Kieran Street, Kilkenny Ireland
Bollard's Bar and Bistro, 31/32 Kieran Street - T: 056 7761319 - E: bollardsbar@gmail.com
Bollard's Bar and Bistro serves up traditional Irish pub-grub as well as a small selection of gourmet sandwiches during the day.
Bollards stands on St. Kieran's Street, in the heart of the shopping area of Kilkenny, only 200 metres from St. Francis' Abbey Brewery (the home of Kilkenny Irish Beer) where they have brewed ale since 1710.
This street was originally known as 'King Street', given its name by the lords and ladies of Kilkenny Castle. They used this route to travel from the castle to St. Canice's Cathedral.
Bollards Pub has been in the Bollard family since 1904. Prior to this it was run as an eating house and public house to service the old 'Market Yard' at its rear.
The Bollard family have continued that tradition to this day. So while steeped in history and tradition they manage to offer a high standard of food, drink and service to suit all modern day requirements. Bollards is recommended by the best food guides. It has a strong sporting tradition and offers ample car parking.
