2 Nov. 2019 Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, Sarasota, Florida
Today I did something slightly different than my normal Saturday routine, of going to the weekly Saturday morning market in my neighborhood in St. Pete. Normally I'm not a big fan of doing things against my normal routine, but today was an exception.
For a change of atmosphere, my mom and I decided to take a drive to Sarasota, to visit the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens. Although I've been to Sarasota many times for vacation and in fact almost moved there, I'd never heard of the Selby Gardens before and this was my first time there, but it was a pleasant surprise that was worth the drive all the way from St. Pete. I'm not sure what the normal admission price is, but we wanted to take advantage because this weekend, the first weekend of the month, we were able to get in in for free. There are certain museums in Florida that offer free admission the first weekend of every month. Although this place is not a museum, it still made the list.
It was a totally new experience. It's not every day I get to experience what it's like to take a stroll through a rainforest, and see a variety of different types of plants. I was focused so much on taking photos that I unfortunately did not catch most of the names of the plants, but to name just a couple: banyan trees, bamboo, and their current special exhibit of colorful orchids. There was also a pond with some Coy fish, something I don't get to see every day. It felt good to just sit on a bench by that pond, observe the pretty Coy fish, and listen to the accompanying waterfall.
There was also a mansion that went along with it, which contained a small display of antique woven baskets, but unfortunately I didn't get any photos in the mansion. There wasn't enough photo worthy material.
I'll definitely go back to the Selby Gardens if I get a chance, especially to see the orchids, although the orchids are only there for about one more month. Either way, it was definitely worth the visit, just for a change of atmosphere. The whole experience was just breathtaking. It was a meditation in itself and is something I strongly recommend to Sarasota visitors, especially heavy meditators.

I took the original recording and used a pitch adjusting app to make the pitch sound slightly lower from the original, which is why his voice sounds lower. It's the same recording, just in a slightly lower key.

Вообще, Флорида – курорт, где отдыхать можно в любое время года. Однако есть несколько нюансов. Не стоит забывать, что с июня по середину ноября длится сезон ураганов.
Ласковые женские имена (Вильма, Катрина и т.д), которыми их называют метеорологи, могут таить в себе большие неприятности для отдыхающих. Конечно, есть в этом и свой экстрим – мало кто может похвастаться, что был непосредственным свидетелем такого катаклизма, но все же лучше не рисковать.
Пик сезона приходится на декабрь-май, ведь даже в январе температура редко падает ниже +20 градусов и в Мексиканском заливе можно купаться.

Afternoon at Marie Selby Gardens (5/16/2017)
The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, located in Sarasota, FL, are a garden located just outside downtown Sarasota, adjacent both to Hudson Bayou and Sarasota Bay proper. Scattered clouds and a gentle breeze resulted in alternating periods of sun and shade beneath the bows of a tree located just outside the gardens in an off-site waiting area. Where one can easily enjoy the lovely site or share a meal and sit while family or friends take their time exploring the twenty two distinct horticultural sites within.
Marie Selby settled in Sarasota, FL in the 1920s, and in 1995 the Selby Foundation began supporting the local community. Marie Selby's will left her gardens to the community for the enjoyment of the general public. The garden specializes in epiphytic plants and supports reciprocal membership with many other botanical gardens across the United States.

Прекрасный климат, идеальные пляжи и отличная инфраструктура привлекают множество туристов. При этом Сарасота - не только курорт, но и место, где культурная жизнь бьет ключом, а достопримечательностей едва ли не больше, чем во всем остальном штате Флорида. В территориальную единицу Сарасота включены также примыкающие к ней Брадентон и Венис. Для полноты картины отметим, что Сарасота является городом-побратимом Владимира.
Сарасота расположена на западном побережье полуострова Флорида, чуть южнее залива Тампа Бэй. Площадь города составляет 67 кв.км, из которых 43% занимают водные пространства. В понятие Сарасота также включены маленькие острова ( т.н. Keys), расположенные в заливе Сарасота Бэй, на которых находится множество прекрасных пляжей.
Сарасота расположена на границе субтропической и тропической зоны. Влажный морской бриз смягчает жару, а растения цветут круглый год.
Когда лучше ехать
Вообще, Флорида – курорт, где отдыхать можно в любое время года. Однако есть несколько нюансов. Не стоит забывать, что с июня по середину ноября длится сезон ураганов.
Ласковые женские имена (Вильма, Катрина и т.д), которыми их называют метеорологи, могут таить в себе большие неприятности для отдыхающих. Конечно, есть в этом и свой экстрим – мало кто может похвастаться, что был непосредственным свидетелем такого катаклизма, но все же лучше не рисковать.
Пик сезона приходится на декабрь-май, ведь даже в январе температура редко падает ниже +20 градусов и в Мексиканском заливе можно купаться.

Sarasota is a city south of Tampa on Florida’s Gulf Coast that was once the winter home of the Ringling Brothers Circus. Today, it hosts a number of cultural institutes, notably the Ringling Museum of Art, which showcases old masters and modern art. It’s also the gateway to miles of beaches with fine sand and shallow waters, such as Lido Beach and Siesta Key Beach.
Sarasota is a popular city on the Gulf Coast of Southwest Florida and the county seat of Sarasota County. It is known for its vibrant arts community, excellent restaurants, unique shopping, and beautiful beaches. Sarasota, although a mid-sized city, is considered to be the cultural center of West Central Florida. The city has a metropolitan flavor unique to cities of its size and to cities in Florida.
The Asolo Theater, Florida West Coast Symphony, Sarasota Opera, the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall, and frequent art shows add the the cultural theme of the city, rivaling the facilities of Florida's largest cities. Sarasota is also home to the Ringling Museum of Art, the Selby Botanical Gardens, New College (Florida's public honors college), a USF branch, and the Ringling School of Art and Design.
Sarasota's downtown comprises a true urban cityscape with offices and several upscale downtown condominiums. It is complemented by Saint Armands Circle, on Saint Armands Key, which is surrounded by Lido Key, across Sarasota Bay from downtown via the Ringling Causeway (with sweeping views of Sarasota Bay.) Saint Armands Circle is an upscale outdoor shopping area, with several cafes, reminiscent of Europe. The idea for Saint Armands was from John Ringling who also intended to build a Ritz hotel on Longboat Key. Today, Sarasota has a Ritz hotel downtown as well as the Longboat Key Club on Ringling's original site. The Longboat Key Club includes two golf courses, tennis, and all other resort facilities and is located just north of Saint Armands on Longboat Key.
The beaches are a major draw to the area. Siesta Key Beach is consistently ranked among the most beautiful beaches on Earth. (Siesta Key was also the site chosen for the marriage of Chrissy and Brian, of Home Today fame.) Crescent Beach, Turtle Beach, Lido Beach, and the beach running the 15 mile span of Longboat Key are equally beautiful and accessible. Indeed, much of Sarasota's charm comes from the fact that the beaches are so plentiful and accessible.

Marie Selby Botanical Gardens Titan Arum Flowering- Shot with Iphone 6s+
This was an awesome trip that I had with my mom and sister to the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens to see their two Titan Arum flowers blooming! They are very rare blooms and smell like rotting flesh! Take a peek at 1:56 at the guy who gets too close to take a whiff, and nearly gets knocked off his feet by the smell!! Trying to make some videos of Florida before I leave!
