Chinese solar tech company announces purchase of IBM West Campus in East Fishkill
In a formal announcement on Friday morning at Marist College, state and local officials welcomed Linuo Solar Group Company to the United States. The hi-tech Chinese manufacturer recently purchased the abandoned IBM West Campus in East Fishkill, and plans to invest $100 million, bringing up to 1,000 new jobs to the Mid Hudson Valley.
Dr. Bevan Zhang, Linuo's international director, thanked state and local leaders for their assistance in bringing his company to New York. Company executives visited California, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Florida and New Jersey, before choosing New York as their American headquarters. We get all kinds of entertainment, parties, Zhang recalled, even bring us to NBA game.
He cited the cooperation of Lt. Gov. Robert Duffy, Congressman Maurice Hinchey, the Empire State Development Corp., Central Hudson, and The Solar Energy Consortium of Kingston (TSEC), as instrumental in Linuo's decision to base their U.S. operations in Dutchess County. The Mid-Hudson & Dutchess Economic Development Corporations, and Dutchess Regional Chamber of Commerce were also credited.
That makes New York State so attractive, Zhang remarked.
I feel I need to make sure our business finds a location where we get strong support, Zhang explained. You cannot imagine a Chinese company from the outside coming here, and run by themselves, it's just impossible.
Vincent Cozzolino, President of TEAC, agreed. Bringing any company to NY is always hard, because there is competition all over the country, he said. This is a re-purposing of an existing asset, Cozzolino said of the old IBM plant -- housing one million square feet of manufacturing space. There will be lots of local partners that will have to participate with this in the supply chain, and Linuo has a strategy that says they would like to work locally, Cozzolino observed. This thing about 'a rising tide floats all boats,' really should take us forward.
Linuo was founded in 1994 with $70,000 in startup capital, and less than 50 employees, Zhang said. Today it is a full company with seven subdivisions, $1.3 billion in revenue, and 30,000 employees. We wanted to create a product that can be a benefit to improve human life, Zhang noted. We did that in China, with mass production of affordable silicon tubes, providing hot water to poor neighborhoods. Developed countries in Europe also prefer Linuo's technology, Zhang added.
In the United States, Linuo's products are used in the NYC subway system. Kingston manufacturer SolarTech, located at Tech City (another former IBM plant), will be using Linuo's PV cells to make integrated solar panels.

Bennett College was founded in 1890 at Irvington, New York by May F. Bennett. In 1907 the college moved to its final home on 22 acres (89,000 m2) in Millbrook, Dutchess County, New York. In 1907 the school had an enrollment of 120 students and a faculty of 29. Originally named The Bennett School for Girls, the course of study was six years (four years of high school and two years of higher study). In the early 20th century the school discontinued high school courses and became a junior college only. The two-year curriculum continued through the 1970s. Generations of young women from prominent American families attended Bennett over its 90-year history.
Majors of study included art, fashion design, interior design, music, modern languages, literature, history, dance, drama, child development, equine studies, and domestic science. Activities at Bennett included gymnastics, golf, tennis, horseback riding and skiing. The school was home to a full-time teaching Nursery School for 3 and 4 year old as well as a riding stable.
At the time of its closing, enrollment was around 300 students.
With the growing popularity of coeducation in the 1970s, Bennett found itself struggling to survive. An attempt to upgrade facilities and convert to a coed college in the mid-1970s left the already troubled college in financial distress. In 1977 the trustees attempted to reach a collaboration agreement with Briarcliff College, a junior women's college in nearby Briarcliff Manor which was also struggling with low enrollment. The plan did not work, however, and Briarcliff instead merged with New York Institute of Technology in 1977 after both Briarcliff and Bennett entered bankruptcy. In 1978 the college closed its doors for good.
Bennett College closed a few weeks after its freshman orientation in the fall. The students having already arrived at Bennett for their fall semester were given the opportunity to attend Marist College, a nearby co-ed university in Poughkeepsie, New York.

Townsend's Opening Remarks in the Great Debate for U.S. Senate against Schumer
Part One of Townsend's Greatest Hits in the Great Debate with Chuck Schumer
October 24, 2010, Marist College, Poughkeepsie, NY
Ladies and Gentlemen, the Obama Pelosi Schumer Agenda is not working for the state of New York. Tonight one million New Yorkers will go to bed without a job. For every dollar we send to the Federal Government we get less than 80 cents back. We now have the highest property taxes of any state in the union thanks in part to some of the unfunded federal mandates Senator Schumer has supported. Our health insurance premiums are skyrocketing. Come January we New Yorkers will be socked with the largest tax increase in American history. No one has done more to advance the Obama Pelosi Agenda than Senator Schumer. It is wrong for New York. It is wrong for our nation. Senator Schumer has been wrong for too long. And my message to you if you are tired of having your pocket picked and your dreams denied and your children forced to leave New York, I should be your choice in the race for United States Senate.

Why Trump Will Never Be President- Words of Wisdom from-Senator Sanders
Bernie nailed it at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, NY last Tuesday!
Driving through Mid-Hudson Bridge to Main Street, Poughkeepsie, New York, USA (2019)
Poughkeepsie (/pəˈkɪpsi/ pə-KIP-see), officially the City of Poughkeepsie, separate from the Town of Poughkeepsie, is a city in the state of New York, United States, which is the county seat of Dutchess County. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 32,736.[4] Poughkeepsie is in the Hudson Valley midway between New York City and Albany, and is part of the New York metropolitan area.[5][6] The name derives from a word in the Wappinger language, roughly U-puku-ipi-sing,[7] meaning the reed-covered lodge by the little-water place, referring to a spring or stream feeding into the Hudson River south of the present downtown area.[8]
Poughkeepsie is known as The Queen City of the Hudson. It was settled in the 17th century by the Dutch and became New York's second capital shortly after the American Revolution. It was chartered as a city in 1854. Major bridges in the city include the Walkway over the Hudson, a former railroad bridge (originally called the Poughkeepsie Bridge) which re-opened as a public walkway on October 3, 2009; and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Bridge, a major thoroughfare built in 1930 that carries U.S. Route 44 (concurrent with State Route 55) over the Hudson. The city of Poughkeepsie lies in New York's 18th congressional district.
Mid-Hudson Bridge
The Franklin Delano Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge is a toll suspension bridge which carries US 44 and NY 55 across the Hudson River between Poughkeepsie and Highland in the state of New York. Governor and local resident Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor attended the opening ceremony on August 25, 1930. The bridge was renamed the Franklin D. Roosevelt Mid-Hudson Bridge in 1994 though the span is rarely referred to by its official name.
The bridge is 3,000 feet (910 m) long with a clearance of 135 feet (41 m) above the Hudson. At opening, it was the sixth-longest suspension bridge in the world. The chief engineer was Polish immigrant Ralph Modjeski, who had previously engineered the strengthening of the nearby Poughkeepsie Railroad bridge. Primary contractor was the American Bridge Company of Ambridge, Pennsylvania with steel from Carnegie. The span is unusual in that stiffening trusses were intentionally constructed on top of, not below, the deck.
