Cass Railroad State Park to Marlinton, WV
This timelapse is video 3 of 3. This takes you from Cass Scenic Railroad back to Marlinton, WV via Back Mountain Road. This is a wonderful drive. Cass is the northern terminus of the Greenbrier River Trail and a great launch point into the river.
Biking the Greenbrier River Trail: Marlinton to Watoga WV (ex-C&O RR Durbin line) (October 14 1997)
A scenic bike ride on the former Durbin line of the Cheaspeake & Ohio Railroad! Incredible mountain views!
Here, we ride south from the former Marlinton WV station, paralleling the Greenbrier River. We make it as far as the general area of Watoga before rough gravel, time, and a little rain take their toll!
I tried to keep this special edit within reasonable viewing length, but this was difficult with intriguing views around almost every curve! Even on the return trip, though we're backtracking, the views are still incredible! That's what makes vids like this tough to edit!
West Virginia is a fantastic (and obvious) place for great mountain biking-our favorite sport! And of course, as railfans, we seek out the old roadbeds! Easier to ride, too-they're all level!

WV Highlands Scenic Highway (Northern Terminus to Cranberry Glades) 6-4-16
The West Virginia Highlands Scenic Highway (State Route 150) is a 22 mile parkway located near the town of Marlinton, in the Allegheny Mountains of Pocahontas County. The parkway, combined with a 21 mile stretch on State Route 39, from Cranberry Glades to Richwood, form a 43 mile National Byway. This Byway lies completely within the Monongahela National Forest. There are four scenic overlooks along the parkway as well as many other unmarked vistas. Activities such as hiking, fishing, hunting, camping and backpacking are all available along the 43 mile byway. Destinations include, Cranberry Glades, the Cranberry Wilderness and Falls of Hills Creek.Elevations range from over 4,500 feet on the parkway to 2,325 feet at Richwood. The Greenbrier River Trail, WV - Path Pedaler Episode 2
In this episode Mary Jo will be exploring the Greenbrier River Trail located in the Allegheny Mountains in southeastern West Virginia. She starts her adventure in Cass where she visits the Cass Scenic Railroad, then rides south to the town of Marlinton where she spends the night at Appalachian Sport. The next morning Mary Jo continues south through the picturesque countryside enjoying everything this trail has to offer. This 77 mile trail passes through some of the most remote country in West Virginia. She finishes her ride at Caldwell the southern most terminus of the trail. Mary Jo also takes in the sights and rich history of the Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park.
