Visitors to Kagawa Prefectures in Shikoku, will want to visit Marugame (丸亀), the second largest city in the Prefecture. Marugame is a port city in the western part of Kagawa Prefecture and includes many of the Shiwaku Islands located in the Seto Inland Sea. Many of the Shiwaku Islands are hosts to the famous Setouchi Treiennale, a contemporary art festival with venues on several of the islands of the Seto Inland Sea.
Marugame has many points of interests for its visitors. For young visitors, we recommend the New Reoma World, an amusement park filled with rides and fun for the whole family. The Marugame Castle, one of the twelve remaining “original” castles of Japan, was constructed on a hill to “control” the city it governed. The Mimoca, Marugame Genichiro Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, houses fascinating objects and other art pieces. A famous round fan or uchiwa museum is also in this city. The people of Marugame originally made these hand-held round fans for the pilgrims who came to Shikoku to visit the temples.
Visitors can enjoy all the delicious delights this city has to offer. From udon, which is famous throughout Kagawa Prefecture to Marugame grilled chicken on the bone, there is something for everyone here. Many locals love the sanuki cow which is used as toppings for udon, or the beef is available in lunchboxes in this region. Fruits are also popular, with peaches being a favorite.
Visitors will find this city located west of the Seto Ohashi, the bridge connecting Shikoku to Honshu, fascinating. In addition to the areas mentioned above, there are an array of restaurant and shops to explore here.

Contemporary artist-sculptor Teppei Kaneuji and his sound and video team weave old and new photographs and audio-visual recordings of the former and present print rooms of the Kyoto Shimbun into a massive multimedia installation that combines the art medium of photography with the info-dissemination medium of the newspaper. Focusing on how the global circulation of images and text in the form of ink on paper shapes our worldview and collective memory, Kaneuji likens liquid ink to the lifeblood that circulates around the planet and through all organisms. A bold new alternative vision alive with noise and motion that takes our imagination deep into the body of the beast.
Teppei Kaneuji
Born in 1978, Teppei Kaneuji is an artist and sculptor who lives and works in Kyoto. He earned a graduate degree in sculpture at Kyoto City University of Arts in 2003, where he now teaches as the Associate Professor. Marina Abramovic | Masterpiece
What is a masterpiece? Renowned artist Marina Abramovic discusses her understanding of a masterpiece in this exclusive video from outofsync.dk
It very important for work of art to be multi-dimensional, to have many meanings, so every society can take part. If only one-dimensional it dies very soon.
Marina Abramovic (b 1946) is a Serbian performance artist based in New York. Her work explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind. Active for over three decades, Abramovic has been described as the grandmother of performance art. She pioneered a new notion of identity by bringing in the participation of observers, focusing on confronting pain, blood, and physical limits of the body.
Since the beginning of her career in the early 1970s when she attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade, Abramovic has pioneered the use of performance as a visual art form. The body has been both her subject and medium. Exploring the physical and mental limits of her being, she has withstood pain, exhaustion and danger in the quest for emotional and spiritual transformation. As a vital member of the generation of pioneering performance artists that includes Bruce Nauman, Vito Acconci and Chris Burden, Abramovic created some of the most historic early performance pieces and continues to make important durational works.
Abramovic has presented her work with performances, sound, photography, video and sculpture in solo exhibitions at major institutions in the U.S. and Europe. Her work has also been included in many large-scale international exhibitions including the Venice Biennale (1976 and 1997) and Documenta VI, VII and IX, Kassel, Germany (1977, 1982 and 1992). In 1998, the exhibition Artist Body - Public Body toured extensively, including stops at Kunstmuseum and Grosse Halle, Bern, Switzerland and La Gallera, Valencia, Spain. In 2004, Abramović exhibited at the Whitney Biennial in New York and had a significant solo show, The Star, at the Marugame Genichiro-Inokuma Museum of Contemporary Art, Japan and the Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto, Japan.
Abramovic has taught and lectured extensively in Europe and America. In 1994, she became Professor for Performance Art at the Hochschule für Bildende Künst in Braunschweig, where she taught for seven years. In 2004, she was awarded an Honorary Doctorate from the Art Institute in Chicago, The University of Plymouth and Willams College.
She was awarded the Golden Lion for Best Artist at the 1997 Venice Biennale for her extraordinary video installation/performance piece Balkan Baroque and, in 2003, received the New Media Bessie award for The House with the Ocean View‚ a 12-day performance at Sean Kelly Gallery.
Abramovic's work is included in numerous major public and private collections worldwide.
In 2011, Abramovic participated in visionary director Robert Wilson's, The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic, the critically acclaimed re-imagination of Abramovic's biography, which continues to tour internationally. The feature-length documentary, Marina Abramovic: The Artist is Present, premiered in January 2012 at the Sundance Film Festival and has since received widespread critical acclaim. In 2015, Abramovic was the subject of a major solo exhibition at the Museum of Old and New Art, Tasmania, entitled Private Archaeology. In conjunction with her solo exhibition at MONA, Abramovic conducted a 12-day residency program, through Kaldor Public Art Projects in Sydney, Australia.
Abramovic is currently developing the Marina Abramović Institute (MAI) in Hudson, New York, an interdisciplinary performance and education center dedicated to the presentation and preservation of long durational work and the fostering of collaborations between art, science, technology and spirituality.

Marina Abramovic | How I See the World
I think we are in most dangerous moment of human civilization right now. The only way to survive is to change our consciousness. Marina Abramovic reflects on how she sees the World.
Marina Abramovic (b November 30, 1946) is a Yugoslavia-born performance artist. Her work explores the relationship between performer and audience, the limits of the body, and the possibilities of the mind. Active for over five decades, Abramovic has been described as the grandmother of performance art.
Marina Abramovic was born in Belgrade, Ex-Yugoslavia, to partisan parents, who met during WWII and were national heroes under Marshal Tito's regime. Raised in her childhood primarily by her orthodox grandmother, religion and revolution impacted profoundly on her early life and continue to permeate her artistic practice. In Rhythm 5 (1974/2011) she sets fire to a communist star that can also be read as a pentagram when inverted. The video installation The Hero (2001) is a ritualistic elegy for her father.
Abramovic’s works seek the core of concepts such as loss, memory, being, pain, endurance and trust. Her work is a matter of life and death – questions about existence and art are brought to a head in ways that may both provoke and move us. Rarely has anyone explored the physical and mental pain thresholds as she does.
Marina Abramovic has presented her work with performances, sound, photography, video and sculpture in solo exhibitions at major institutions in the U.S. and Europe. Her work has also been included in many large-scale international exhibitions including the Venice Biennale (1976 and 1997) and Documenta VI, VII and IX, Kassel, Germany (1977, 1982 and 1992). In 2005, Abramovic presented Balkan Erotic Epic at the Pirelli Foundation in Milan, Italy and at Sean Kelly in New York. That same year, she held a series of performances entitled Seven Easy Pieces at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. She was honored for Seven Easy Pieces by the Guggenheim at their International Gala in 2006 and by the AICA-USA, which awarded her the Best Exhibition of Time Based Art designation in 2007. She was the subject of a major retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Artist is Present, in 2010; the following year, the Garage Center for Contemporary Culture in Moscow, Russia also presented a major retrospective of Abramovic's oeuvre. Abramovic's work is included in numerous major public and private collections worldwide.

My belief is that contemporary photography should be based on conceptual ideas and should be directed to creation. In order to pursue this direction, needless to say, enthusiasm and strong will are required. If someone should think that an artistic expression is valid in taking pictures of one’s life such as girlfriends and families, it would be too idle an attitude. To bring out 'the power of photography' in any era or situation, a strong passion (based on the photographer’s mindset to structure concept) is essential. – Risaku Suzuki
About the artist
Born in 1963 Born in Wakayama Prefecture, Japan, currently lives and works in Tokyo
Risaku Suzuki is known for his dedicated productions that capture
scenes in Kumano, Wakayama Prefecture; one of Japan’s most holy places
and also Suzuki’s hometown. One of Japan’s most prominent young
photographers, Suzuki presents quintessential Japanese subjects - such
as snowfall and cherry blossoms - in a manner that is at once timeless
and refreshingly new.
Suzuki has held exhibitions worldwide and
has received many prizes, including the Kimura Ihei Award, the most
renowned award in the field of photography in Japan.
