Canal Street Antique Mall Lawrence Massachusetts - What an incredible store.
We visited Boston this week and checked out many antique malls in the area. This one in Lawrence MA was a favorite! Really and truly why I love antique malls. every booth has a different personality. you don't know what's around the bend. so much fun. The dealers here truly work hard to merchandise there items and make their area unique. this video is just the one room, there is whole other floor, and another 10,000 building right next door, that we didn't have tome to see.

Bread & Roses, Then & Now; Lawrence & the 1912 Strike
The Bread & Roses strike of 1912 in Lawrence was one of the largest and most important labor events in history, but few people today can relate with it physically. I made this film back in 2011 as part of a UMass Lowell course in conjunction with the Lawrence Centennial Committee and the Lawrence Heritage Museum, with the idea that it might be possible to connect people to the strike through the city itself; Lawrence is only eight square miles, and every square foot is soaked in history.
After combing through archives and locating original photographs from the strike, I researched where they were originally taken (not easy when many shots lacked captions and entire streets had changed shape), and then I did my best to recapture each image from the same spot, almost exactly 100 years later.
This video is currently being used by the Lawrence Public Library for educational and research purposes; the Heritage Museum has a copy as well. This video was one of two that I produced on a DVD; the other is Spanish-language, given the large Hispanic population of Lawrence today. The other video can be found on my YouTube channel.
Since the production of this film in 2011, I have been informed that the Franco Belgian Hall was turned into a nightclub; I have not had a chance to verify this and the owner has not responded to my queries.
A note about the sound/quality: For some reason, the quality got a bit fuzzy when I uploaded this, not much I can do about that. I suggest any video size except full-screen, as some of the text can be difficult to read. Also, the sound for the final third of the film is now very loud; you have been warned...
