A weekend away in Matakana, 2.5 hours North of Auckland, New Zealand. We indulged in food at the farmers market and walked, camped and swam on the beautiful beaches situated within Tāwharanu National Park.

New research findings by the Auckland University show despite receiving the pension some kaumātua are still struggling to make ends meet. Dame June Mariu, who turns 83 this year, agrees it would be difficult to live off her pension alone.

Firstly we are situated in the heart of Manukau City on Norman Spencer Drive with a large amount of free on-site and off street parking.
Inside the venue you will find a large 930sqm ballroom, licensed bar, spacious bathrooms with wheelchair access and private bridal room.
As part of all event packages, you also get a stage platform, varnished wooden dance floor, round banquet tables, padded cabaret seating, designer table linen, cutlery, crockery, glassware and surround LED lighting which can be set to a color theme.
Most other venues charge extra for these facilities but at Manukau Event Centre, you get it all for free.

Matariki Festival 2016: Kaumātua Kapa Haka 2016 – Day 1
Day 1 of 2
A celebration of haka (dance) and waiata (song), presented by senior Māori performing artists from around Aotearoa New Zealand.
Taken from the Second World War era, these iwi waiata-ā-ringa (action songs) and haka (dance) are brought to life by kaumātua (elders). Join us to commemorate the men who served in our country’s 28th (Māori) Battalion during World War II. Songs include memorable classics such as ‘Arohaina mai’ by Tuini Ngawai.
