Haunted Peabody Estate Part One-Mayslake Manor
Still photos and motion video from over 4 years of my site coverage of yet another famous Chicagoland haunted site located on what was a Native American village up-until the mid 1800's and became the property of a wealthy Illinois coal mogul:Francis Stuyvesant Peabody. ...The Mayslake manor mansion still stands as well as the abandoned and dilapidated St Paschal's Friary on the south side of the property... Mr Peabody died of a heart attack in the late 1920s while participating in a fox hunt along the lake and was said to be found lying next to his favorite steed that stood faithfully by the side of his fallen master...several of his thoroughbred horses horses are buried on the property on the east side of the mansion and marked with large crude crosses ...this is also the site of numerous reports of paranormal activity....b

Volunteers Make a Reel Difference
The Forest Preserve District of DuPage County recently honored its corps of dedicated volunteers at its 2011 volunteer awards banquet. With hundreds of volunteers and guests in attendance, 19 individuals were recognized for their outstanding contributions.
Last fiscal year, 956 long-term and 4,000 one-time volunteers donated a combined total of over 96,000 hours to promote the Forest Preserve District's mission of conservation, education and recreation. Volunteers at Danada Equestrian Center in Wheaton, Fullersburg Woods Nature Education Center in Oak Brook, Kline Creek Farm in West Chicago, Mayslake Peabody Estate in Oak Brook, St. James Farm Forest Preserve in Warrenville and Willowbrook Wildlife Center in Glen Ellyn hosted millions of visitors, brought history to life, cared for animals and taught children about all things wild. Natural Resource Management volunteers stewarded thousands of acres and monitored animal populations. Trail Patrol volunteers helped visitors enjoy the forest preserves safely. Through the Volunteer Ranger Experience, individuals supported fishing and archery clinics and groups helped maintain the beautiful condition of forest preserves throughout the District.

Haunted St Paschal's Friary Demolition Part Three-Inside
The decision to conclude the Peabody Estate installments as one of my recurrent locations ironically coincided with the County F.P.'s announcement that commencement of the St. Paschal Friary demolition had already begun despite the steadfast efforts of historical preservationists and the ambitious seeming renovation designs proposed by local real estate developers that included plans for everything from assisted living to moderately priced condos to studio apartments to low income housing (much to the chagrin to neighboring affluent subdivision residents) to an office building/specialty shops/restaurant-bar banquette facility combination...sadly the burgeoning annual cost of maintaining the 100,000 square foot structure that was rapidly falling into disrepair and the unresolvable zoning disputes and assorted ensuing lawsuits finally sounded the death knell for the this unique, notoriously haunted old building...
