McAllen State of the City 2018
Mayor Jim Darling presented his State of the City address on Tuesday Feb. 7, 2018 at the McAllen Convention Center. The theme for this year’s grand event was “McAllen: Safe & Sound.” Mayor touted McAllen as one of the safest cities in the country and highlighted the hard work of the McAllen police and fire departments. McAllen City Commissioners highlighted accomplishments for 2017 such as the La Plaza Mall expansion, the UTRGV research center, the new Texas A&M campus in McAllen and big expansions for South Texas College. Mayor Darling also shared his vision for the City of McAllen with his goals for 2018 and beyond. Take a look back at this signature event in the City of Palms that welcomed more than 1,300 people.

Mayor Jim Darling’s State of the City Address was presented on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019 at the McAllen Convention Center. More than 1,000 people attended the sold out event. The theme was “Magic of McAllen.” Mayor Darling reiterated McAllen as one of the safest cities in Texas and the country and highlighted the city’s accomplishments and vision for the future. Mayor Darling always has a memorable and entertaining grand entrance to the event. The McAllen City Commissioners and Mayor Darling addressed issues and services important to the McAllen community affecting not only McAllen, but also the region. Other topics he discussed was the continued strength of McAllen’s economy, including development around the city, as well as other quality of life projects, focusing on all of those elements that enhance the community and make McAllen such a magical place.
Mayor Darling also highlighted different individuals and organizations that contribute to the overall success of the city, from safety to livability.
The license agreement, including any attached and referenced schedules (the Agreement) is made in New York by and between SESAC LLC (“SESAC”) a Delaware limited liability company, with offices at 35 Music Square East, Nashville, TN 37207 and City of McAllen.

The theme for this year’s impressive event was “It’s Our City.” McAllen City Commissioners highlighted accomplishments for 2016 such as the opening of the McAllen Performing Arts Center, the new Recycle Right program, and the groundbreaking for the new Texas A&M campus in McAllen. Mayor Darling also urged all 130,000 plus residents to do their part to keep McAllen at the forefront of our region. On Monday, August 12, 2013, ERO Architects of McAllen presented this video, offering a virtual tour of the City of McAllen's proposed performing arts center.
Along with the video, city commissioners viewed a 3D model of the structure. It will be covered with plexiglass and displayed at City Hall.
The new building would be constructed on the southeast side of the McAllen Convention Center campus, off of Ware Road and Interstate 2 (Expressway 83).
