A biking tour around historic Melaka, Malaysia (Riding our bicycles in UNESCO heritage city Malacca)
This is a travel video from a bicycle tour we took around the historic UNESCO heritage city of Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia early in the morning before it became unbearably hot and humid.
Malacca is definitely a pedestrian friendly city; however, considering how spread out it is, an even better way to cover my territory in a short period of time is to rent/borrow a bicycle from your guesthouse. Almost all guesthouses offer bicycles for rent (some even provide bikes for free) which you can be assigned for the day, week or even month. Malacca is one of the most hot and humid cities I've ever visited anywhere in SE Asia. Thus, waking up early to beat the high heat and chaotic traffic is highly recommended.

On our particular journey, we started off in Chinatown (specifically Jonker Street) winding our way through the many back-alleys and narrow streets.
We noticed many crumbling colonial mansions and Chinese lanterns. Also, there were plenty of cats and dogs lounging around that we stopped to pet.
Upon crossing Melaka River (Malacca River) we observed the scenic riverside views before heading along the more central areas of the city nearby the many malls and central pier.
Malacca was granted World Heritage City status in 2008. Considering it is one of my favorite cultural HUBS in all of SE Asia, I'm surprised it took this long to receive such a distinction.
If Malaysia is one of the most under-rated countries I've ever visited, Malacca is certainly the most under-rated of all the cities in the country.
In total, we covered - on our bicycles - in an hour what may have took half (or even a full) day to tackle by foot.
Overall, it was a wonderful way to see the many attractions in Melaka, Malaysia and we highly recommend hopping on bike to tour the city as one of the the top things to do in Malacca.

Melaka River Night Cruise (Boat Tour Along the Malacca River) in Malacca, Malaysia
In this travel video we head to the Melaka River for a night cruise boat tour in Malacca, Malaysia. Having visited parts of this river on foot during the day it looked totally different at night with the neon lights reflecting in the water. I've noticed over the years a lot of development in the area. Although it's certainly more upscale and posh with new apartments, condos and boutique hotels, I feel it's lost some charm given that many of the traditional houses along the river (kampong) are now gone. Overall, we enjoyed the boat ride and given it only cost 15 Ringgit ($5 USD) we'd recommend it to others visiting the city.

The Melaka River was once in a pretty nasty state, but the authorities realized its tourism potential and cleaned it up. A flotilla of small boats transports sightseers up and down past historic buildings, old warehouses (godowns), interesting mangrove stands, churches, and villages. The 1998 Sean Connery movie Entrapment was partially filmed here. Tours last about 45 minutes in boats ranging from 20- to 40-seaters, and normally a minimum of eight passengers is required before departure. Take a taxi to the jetty at Taman Rempah, about 20 minutes from Melaka town (about RM20). You can request beforehand to be dropped at the jetty beside the Maritime Museum instead of traveling back up river, but it's not advisable to take the boat from that jetty, as it's not a normal stop:
Melaka River is a river which flows through the middle Malacca Town in the Malaysian state of Malacca. It was once an important trade route during the heyday of Malacca Sultanate in the 15th century. It has lost most of this function in the present and is a mere tourist attraction.
We have our tickets in hand and tonight we are going to be doing the Melaka River Cruise.
The city really lights up at night.
I'm really enjoying this right now because I've actually only walked along this area. I've never taken the boat and I've never done this at night so this is awesome.
It is so much easier and convenient taking the boat than walking.
My favorite part of the tour has been getting to see all of the art on the exterior of the buildings by the river.
Since I first came here back in 2008 there has been a lot of development in the area. There used to be a lot of traditional homes alongside the Kampong the river but not anymore. Now there are boutique hotels and condos. It has lost a little bit of its charm in my opinion.|

The trip was part of our module in sem3 Foundation in Communication programme in Limkokwing University and we had to pay 600RM for a 5-day stay in our Melaka campus.(.not rly what i signed up for..) The fee included transportation, and 4 days breakfast. It was all for a project that aimed to recreate elements of Melaka and basically feature the place. Our actual project cost us at least 200MYR per student on canvas and related materials..again, not what i signed up for.. it sure did cost us a lot. So i decided to at least make this video just to get something out of all that. I have to say i'm still thankful for all the experience i've had with this uni.

Malacca River Walking Tour in Melaka, Malaysia
In our latest travel video we decide to take a walking tour along the Malacca River in Melaka, Malaysia. Waking up early was the right decision as we beat the heat and humidity that follow several hours later. As we walked along the river we noticed a series of cafes and guest houses. Further along there was a section of buildings covered in graffiti and murals. On the other side of the river we noticed a traditional kampong style of housing. Overall, it was a great way to spend the morning and best of all it was entirely free.

Melaka - The Best of Malaysia
As amazing as Melaka was by night, it did not disappoint as we explored it in the light of day. I still think it was one of the most remarkable destinations on our Southeast Asia trip.

Rickshaw Tour Around Melaka (Malacca), Malaysia
In this travel video we decided to take a rickshaw tour around all of the main neighborhoods and attractions in the city of Melaka (Melacca), Malaysia. Our colorful rickshaw was brightly decorated or as Audrey exclaimed: It's decked out with flowers plenty of bling bling! I've certainly never been in a tuk-tuk or rickshaw quite like this one. In Cambodia they're quite spartan and in Thailand you're more likely to see advertising more than anything else.
What can make - or break - your experience on a rickshaw tour is the personality of your driver. Luckily, our driver was a friendly chap who enjoyed providing background information about all of the attractions and districts we passed along the way.

The weather was exceptionally hot and muggy - even by Malacca standards. Thus, we were thrilled to be catching a bit of a breeze and not having to walk or pedal to get from one attraction to the next.
This was the perfect opportunity for me to try some new filming angles and to be a bit silly.
I was able to convince the driver to honk the horn - for no apparent reason - just to have it on camera ;)
We also ended up taking a lot of selfies with exaggerated facial expressions.
Finally, I tried to focus on the details filming close up shots of the rickshaw, the man pedaling and various other focal points.
The highlights of the journey was visiting church ruins, which offered phenomenal views of the city.
From the high vantage point we noticed antiquated canon balls and unique Malaysian architecture.
I spotted a ferry that goes from Malaysia to Indonesia. Three years ago I booked a ticket for this ferry but ended canceling last minute after I changed my travel plans. I'm still keen to try this crossing sometime in the future.
Along the way we spotted a plethora of other bicycles, trishaws and cats in particular.
We finished our trip in Chinatown where our guest house was located.
The trip, very much catered towards tourists only, was overall 40 ringgit (roughly $13 USD).
Although our rickshaw ride was expensive we still enjoyed the tour. Sometimes paying for services, even extremely touristy ones, are worth the price.
Have you been on a rickshaw tour before? Is it something you'd like to try? Let me know in the comments below:
We're going on an hour long tour here. It cost 40 Ringgit, which is approximately thirteen US dollars. It is not the cheapest but it is going to be a really fun way to go around and see Melaka. Our rickshaw is all decked out with fabulous colors and bling bling and it looks pretty.
We've been dropped off on our tour where the river runs out to the sea. Behind us appears to be some kind of a oil rig or something and if you do a pan along here you can see how the river actually comes.
Here is the ferry that goes from Malaysia to Indonesia to the biggest island in Indonesia - Sumatra.
Meow meow!
Now our tour takes us into the Chinatown area of Malacca.

You'll notice how hectic and busy it gets along this street packed with tourists and locals alike along Jalan Hang Jebat. Afterwards we take you on a bicycle tour around the city where stop off at the church ruins. Our next activity is a night boat ride cruise along the Melacca River. One of our favorite activities was taking a rickshaw tour around the city. Feeling the heat we cool down with a delicious bowl of refreshing cendol. We take time to visit the many temples located around Chinatown. We satisfy our tastes buds by eating Peranakan cuisine which is also known as Baba Nyonya food including popiah, rojak and laksa. Next we explore the Chinatown area of Melaka enjoying many of the historic crumbling colonial mansions. After we go exploring and walking along the Melaka River enjoying the graffiti and murals we notice along the walls. We finish off with some time lapse sequences that includes shots of markets, the Dutch quarter and a few others spots. Overall, these are the activities we recommend others check out when they're touring around Malacca.
Seterusnya kita meneroka kawasan Chinatown Melaka menikmati banyak bersejarah runtuh mahligai penjajah.
Malacca City is the capital city of the Malaysian state of Malacca. The Seri Negeri, the State Administrative and Development Centre which houses the Chief Minister's Office, the State Secretary's Office and the Legislative Assembly Hall is located in Malacca City. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with George Town of Penang on 7 July 2008. Most tourist attractions are concentrated in its small city centre which encompasses Jonker Walk which houses Malacca's traditional Chinatown that exhibits Peranakan architecture. A Famosa Fort, St. Paul Hill are among the tourist attractions located in the Bandar Hilir, old city area.
The older part of the city proper has, in addition to the old palace and the large buildings left by the Europeans, many private houses and shops from nearly a century or more ago, put up by Chinese traders. Many of these have beautiful details such as moulded porcelain tiles and painted plaster reliefs on the front. Unfortunately, they tend to be not well preserved and the city government decided to paint all the buildings

Day Trip to Melaka - 3 of 4
We had spent a few days looking around Kuala Lumpur and decided to travel south to Melaka for a day trip.
This is a very old part of Malaysia and many of the buildings history dated back to the 1600s.
If we came back to this part of Malaysia we would spend more time exploring the old city.
Joining a tour was, way to restrictive in time to see the area properly.
