Back in the good old days in the early 70's and just after the split of Aphrodite's Child group, artists from all over the world walked in and out the Parisian studios, and Vangelis played with a lot of them. Among them was Greek actress and singer Melina Mercouri, and Vangelis contributed to her album Si Melina....m'etait contee, oriented to the French market. Melina, who was already a star in Greece as an actress, had just had a break-through in France with her performance in the popular TV show of Pierre Jordan. After this album, she became very popular in France and released several other albums there. Melina Mercouri was one of the fighters in the resistance against the Greek military regime during 1967 to 1974. When the regime had passed, she returned to Greece and got more and more involved in politics. She was appointed to Minister of Culture for over eight years, during which time she is known for her efforts to return the sculptures of the Parthenon (in the possession of the British Museum in London) to Athens. The Melina Mercouri Foundation, which was founded by her husband Jules Dassin after her death, keeps Melina Mercouri's visions alive. Melina Mercouri, cherished and passionately loved by the Greek people, died on March 6th 1994.

My Mum's Great Hug - teaser 2.
This is the second teaser of the play My mum's great hug.
My play is inspired by the era of the silent movies and the films of Marx Brothers and Zacques Tati. The action is sometimes mute and mimetic. Live sounds are produced by the actors' body movements, tap dancing and scat singing. Movement and flow is based on precision and rhythm.
The show is targeted to audiences of all ages and is scheduled to go up in November 2012 at the Michalis Kakoyannis Foundation in Athens.

Open the Borders, refugee children in Piraeus, Athens, Greece
One refugee child yelled open the borders then the rest followed, and I turned on the video a couple of seconds later. Totally impromptu and an amazing moment to witness. These are mainly Syrian and Afghan children in the Piraeus refugee site on E1 and E2 in Athens, as there are in most of the refugee sites. There are so many women and children, do not believe the myth that refugees are all men.
Apologies for the focusing.
Κοπή της Πίτας 2014 @The Hub Events

#takethefirststep for your protection!
More than 50% of people living with HIV worldwide are women. In Europe 1 in 3 HIV diagnoses concerns women, according to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control - ECDC. In Greece, 66,5% of women that have been diagnosed with HIV, until today, acquired the virus through heterosexual sexual intercourse (Centre of Disease Prevention and Control. Epidemiological Survey of HIV / AIDS infection in Greece, 31-12-2016 (Issue No. 31). Athens 2017).
The above data combined with the fact that there is lack of female-oriented awareness campaigns in #Greece, motivated the Centre for Life to design a powerful awareness campaign for the female population, focusing on heterosexual intercourse, in order to convey the message that HIV concerns women as well and that women can take the initiative for a healthy sex life.
Centre for Life’s campaign entitled “Take the first step for your protection” has the valuable support of the Melina Mercouri Foundation and constitutes the first coordinated awareness effort for women concerning #HIV and/or #AIDS in #Greece.
The Κέντρο Ζωής- Centre For Life- Kentro Zois, since its foundation, implements support and empowerment services for seropositive women, as well as information and prevention actions for the female population. Women are a population particularly vulnerable to HIV, both due to biological factors and psychosocial factors. Given all the above, the Centre for Life considers of utmost importance the message of information and proper prevention to reach all women, thus inviting the public to support this effort for an issue that concerns us all.

DIALOGUES: The History of Rebetiko
The SNF DIALOGUES series of monthly events took its first trip outside Athens. A great number of friends of the event, which was open free and open to all, accompanied the SNF Dialogues in its first “escape” outside Athens, and traveled to Syros, the birthplace of Markos Vamvakaris. The visit to Syros took place in accordance with the event’s theme, which was dedicated to the history of rebetiko.
The event, which was hosted at the premises of the unique Syros Textile Factory, featured Dimitris Mistakidis, musician and teacher at the School of Arts in the Department of Traditional Music at the University of Ioannina, Giorgos Kokkonis, Assistant Professor in the Department of Music Studies at the University of Ioannina, and Karolos and Tanya Veanus Tsakirian, luthiers.
The speakers shared their rich knowledge of the roots and influence of Rebetiko on the world music scene, its sociological value, its relatively recent destigmatization, and the cultural trends that have transported it across the globe.
The DIALOGUES are curated and moderated by Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou.

This is a trailer for the exhibition Hippias Minor by Paul Chan. Every year since 2009, the DESTE Foundation’s exhibition space at the Slaughterhouse of Hydra island hosts a series of site specific contemporary art exhibitions designed by an artist (or team of artists).
This year, the DESTE Foundation presents the exhibition “Hippias Minor” by Paul Chan. The show will open on June 15, 2015 and will be on view through September 30, 2105.
“Hippias Minor” is a two part exhibition. Part one consists of three outdoor works inspired by Hippias Minor by Plato and installed on the roof of the Hydra Slaughterhouse space. One of Plato’s most controversial dialogues, Hippias Minor details Socrates’s confounding arguments that there is no difference between a person who tells the truth and one who lies, and that the good man is the one who willingly makes mistakes and does wrong and unjust things. Shown for the first time, these outdoor pieces represent Chan's evolving body of work that incorporates aspects of animation, sculpture, sewing, and fluid dynamics, and which he simply calls clothes for spirits.
Part two is the publication of Hippias Minor or The Art of Cunning (paperback and ebook, 6 X 9, 144 pgs, 13 B/W illustrations, 2015), which features a new translation of the dialogue by acclaimed translator Sarah Ruden. Rendered anew, Hippias Minor asks what if Socrates wasn’t championing the act of lying—as it has been traditionally interpreted—but, rather, advocating for a novel way of understanding the power of the creative act? With an introduction by Paul Chan and essay by classicist Richard Fletcher, the book is co-published by DESTE foundation and Paul Chan's press, Badlands Unlimited, and will premiere at the opening of Hippias Minor on Hydra.
