Things To Do In Yilan County Taiwan
I’ve been planning (or let’s say tempted) to visit Taiwan several times last year, ever since they have lifted visas for Filipinos entering the country. I came close to booking a flight during one of the local airline’s seats sale but unfortunately, things didn’t really work out as planned (dreamed). Good thing, before 2018 came to a close, I got a chance to visit Taiwan, though not the capital, I still got to explore the country’s northeastern town, Yilan County.
Yilan is situated in Taiwan’s Northeastern coastline. Our local guide mentioned that Yilan is regarded as Taiwan’s backyard or backyard garden because it is surrounded by ocean and mountains, making it a nature-destination trip especially if you are coming from a busy city like Taipei.
Join me in this vlog as I tag you along in some of the best spots to see when visiting Yilan.
Here are the places we visited:
3:17 Agrioz Candied Fruit Factory & Museum
5:20 Hill-Top Yilan
7:06 Dongmen Night Market
8:08 The Jimmy Square
8:39 Taiwan Theater Museum
11:40 Er-Wang Community

Yilan National Games publicized by mascots’ baton handover at Legislature
The battle of the mascots seems to be kicking off. A baton handover was held at the Legislature today, between the Universiade mascot Bravo and the mascot of the upcoming Yilan National Games, Good. Meanwhile, Taiwan Railways Administration is launching newly decorated carriages with the help of the Tourism Bureau''s Oh Bear mascot. It remains to be seen which mascot will win the top spot in the nation''s heart. The mascot of the moment, Bravo, appeared at the Legislative Yuan along with the mascot of the National Games, Good. Legislators Chen Ou-po and Cheng Pao-ching danced with them enthusiastically. Bravo handed the baton over to Good in exaggerated slow-motion, to symbolize the handover and offer best wishes for the success of the National Games, which will be held in Yilan from October 21 to 26.At the press conference, a promotional video for the National Games was played. Yilan Legislator Chen Ou-po and members of the Yilan County Government were on hand to ask for public cooperation in the success of the games.Chen Ou-poDPP LegislatorYilan people are very passionate, extremely passionate. So I invite everyone to come to Yilan to partake in our National Games.Meanwhile the big star of the Mascot world, Bravo, has another young pretender on the scene. The first journey of Taiwan Railways’ new decorated carriages took place today, and a cute picture of the Tourism Bureau’s mascot Oh Bear is emblazoned on the sides of the trains. Oh Bear himself also appeared to serve passengers, and challenge Bravo for the limelight.

Taitung at the Glance, Taiwan
Taitung City (Chinese: 台東市 or 臺東市), is a county-controlled city and the county seat of Taitung County, Taiwan. It lies on the southeast coast of Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean. Taitung City is the most populous subdivision of Taitung County and it is one of the major cities on the east coast of the island.
Due to the Central Mountain Range of Taiwan, ground transportation to Taitung City is very limited. The city is served by Taitung Airport. Taitung is a gateway to Green Island and Orchid Island, both of which are popular tourist destinations.
Before the 16th century the Taitung plain was settled by agriculturalist Puyuma and Amis aboriginal tribes. Under Dutch rule and during Qing rule, a large part of eastern Taiwan, including today's Taitung, was called Pi-lam (卑南).
In the late 19th century, when Liu Mingchuan was the Qing Governor of Taiwan, Han Chinese settlers moved into the Taitung region. Pi-lam Subprefecture (卑南廳) was established in 1875, and was upgraded and renamed to Taitung State (臺東直隸州) in 1888. In 1887, the island was made an independent Taiwan Province, which included Taitung Prefecture.[2]
During Japanese rule, the central settlement was called Nankyō Village (南鄉新街). Taitō Chō (臺東廳) was one of twenty local administrative offices established in 1901. English-language works from the era refer to the place as Pinan (from Japanese) and Pilam (from Hokkien).[3] Taitō Town (臺東街) was established in 1920 under Taitō Prefecture, and included modern Taitung City and eastern Beinan Township. There were no Americans living here during the Japanese rule.
After handover of Taiwan from Japan to ROC in 1945, it became Taitung Township and in 1976 it was promoted to Taitung City.
City government[edit]
Taitung City government is headquartered at Taitung City Hall which takes the responsibility for the city general administration and all of its other affairs, from folk, education, cultural popularization, negotiation, emergency help, disaster prevention, environmental taxation, cleaning control, finance, public property control, tellership, taxing help, farming and fishing control, wholesale products, marketing and business administration, urban planning, public establishment, tourism, community development, army service administration, welfare, national health insurance program and indigenous administration affairs.
Artist Yao Jui-chung documents publicly constructed buildings now abandoned
In our last installment, we introduced you to the problem of “mosquito halls,”or publicly constructed facilities that quickly fall into disuse. For the past four years, artist Yao Jui-chung has been documenting facilities constructed with public funds which are later abandoned. He believes more oversight is needed to prevent the waste, especially at science and technology parks were an estimated NT$120 billion worth of land remains idle. This is Yunlin’s Taisi Township. Without receiving special permission, locals are prohibited from accessing this bridge that connects this industrial zone located on an outlying island. Ting Wen-chihNeighborhood ChiefThis piece of land is a special administrative area near Taisi’s Fifth Alley Village. It covers a total area of 283 hectares, and it was completed around 2002 or 2003.The government spent some NT$20 billion of taxpayer money to pump sand and complete this marine reclamation project. The money may as well have been tossed into the sea as the land has not been used in 20 years.Ting Wen-chihNeighborhood ChiefAt first it was for Formosa Plastics, which wanted to build a steel mill. Later Kuokuang Petrochemical was going to build a factory, but later neither did. Formosa Plastics went to Vietnam, and Kuokuang is now in Changhua. Here we see solar panels as well as a neatly constructed science and technology building. This location is an hour drive from Hualien, in Fenglin Township. The facility is the Hualien Environmental Science Park. It was completed in 2009 with the use of some NT$860 million in public funds. Now, it’s a ghost town.Huang Tse-rui NTNU StudentThe original purpose of this public construction was to activate idle industrial land and promote local prosperity. After it was finished, more than a dozen companies moved in, but in 2011 they all moved out. In rural Hualien County, the government seems to be more than willing to spend money to build public projects that soon fall into disuse. Near Hualien’s old railway station is a solar city that consumed more than NT$500 million in public funds and opened in 2009.Huang Tse-rui NTNU StudentThis main purpose of constructing this building was to generate electricity. The government thought that it could generate energy to be sold to Taipower, allowing it to earn NT$400,000. The solar city has solar panels throughout, but while it doesn’t sell electricity anymore, after six years these stairs show the effect of corrosion, and planters are left dry, and the elevator is forever stuck on the first floor. Huang Tse-rui NTNU StudentWhen I came to visit, it’s always on the first floor indicating that it’s no longer in use. Yao Jui-chungPhotographerFor the purpose of elections, the government is willing to fund such projects, and there are many large constructions planned with is local governments willing to go into debt, afterwards this debt is inhered by others, and creates an even bigger debt problem. While technology parks and industrial areas may account for many of these disused publicly constructed facilities, the vast majority of these abandoned spaces are actually markets.Yao Jui-chungPhotographerDue to changing environments, some of these buildings have lost their functions. For example, this market may have had many people 30 years ago, but now it has been made redundant by convenience stores, supermarkets, and department stores. Here we see crowds in front of Beigang’s Chaotian Temple with two rows of shops doing a brisk business. Opposite it is a large building that was designed to be a retail space, with the Beigang Township Office spending NT$700mn to construct a special BOT project. Liao Wan-tingNTNU StudentThis is a very lively street, which surprises us that it has a giant hidden ruin. The building sits in stark contrast to conditions on the street, which is bright and bustling with large crowds. Inside it is dark, with wires strewn on the ground and caved in ceiling tiles. The contrast between inside and outside is startling.Su Ming-hsiu Yunlin Univ. Science TechnologyUpgrading this area was a mistake as many people were forced out and they established stalls outside. Another problem was that they built a multi-story market. Many people feel that it’s inconvenient to climb to the second floor as one loses an emotional connection to the traditional atmosphere of the market.Taiwan’s publicly constructed buildings that have fallen into disuse continue to grow and multiply, causing a financial burden on the government. Unfortunately, government authorities have not been able to find a new use for these facilities.Yao Jui-chungPhotographerI have been calling on the government to use a percentage of this idle space to be used as a creative space for young people. It wouldn’t cost anything to implement such change.Rising housing prices mean that Taiwan''s young people can''t afford to buy a house. However, wit...

STASIUN SHULIN DAN SEKITAR NYA | NEW TAIPEI CITY
Taoyuan → Yingge , Lokal → Shanjia, Lokal → Shulin → Fuzhou, Lokal → Banqiao → Wanhua , Lokal → Stasiun Utama Taipei ( Stasiun Taipei) .
