According to an 1894 researched report, the earliest effort to create any sort of post office in the colonies was in 1639 by the Massachusetts General Court when a tavern in Boston owned by Richard Fairbanks was designated to be the first post office. This was in keeping with the European tradition of coffee houses and taverns being mailing centers. The first post messenger may have started in 1672 or 1673 with instructions to “behave civilly” and to mark trees so other travelers would know where they are going.

U.S.-Dakota War - Internment
For six days beginning November 7, 1862, about 1,700 Dakota people—mostly women and children—who had surrendered but had not been sentenced to death or prison, were removed from the Lower Agency to an internment camp along the river below Fort Snelling.
The Dakota spent the winter at the internment camp. Estimates of deaths in the camp that winter range from 102 to 300, most due to outbreaks of measles and other diseases. In May 1863, the interned Dakota—along with about 2,000 Ho-Chunk who had had no part in the war—were loaded onto steamboats and moved to a camp at Crow Creek, in present-day South Dakota.

00:33 Ronald Windels, is from New York Mills, MN. Ron's story tells of the time he was wounded in action and with the help of his platoon they were helicoptered out.
03:12 James Moon, lives in Rapid City, SD. He was a weapons mechanic for a squadronite of A37s. Jim also remembers getting mortared and rocketed. When they would hear the siren many times they just “rolled under the bunk”.
05:34 Carel Two-Eagle from Standing Rock, ND was going to college at the University of Wisconsin during the Vietnam War. She discribes how radical some of the protesters were during the war and the tragedic consequence their actions had on her husband's lab partner.
07:48 Bill Rose was a Marine during the war. He describes being fatally wounded and the men he served with getting him back to safety. The doctors were persistent to save his life.
10:09 Ann Darby lived in Moorhead, MN. She kept in contact with a sweetheart during the war. Their letters back and forth journal what happened to him on a day to day basis while serving in the Air Force.
12:42 Merrill Piepkorn, from Fargo, ND, couldn't go to Vietnam due to an injury in a vehicle accident he was in when he was 17. One of his friend growning up who did serve contracted an Agent Orange cancer and passed away in 2005 from pancreatic cancer.
14:55 Bill Anderson, lives in Rutland, ND. Bill talks about clearing the Viet-Cong out of areas and capturing enemy supplies. He believed anyone protesting the war had a right to do so but, sending the enemy food and medical supplies went too far.
16:57 Bill Wilber, from New Town, ND was in the navy and worked on a submarine & Treasure Island (San Francisco). The stories he heard during the war didn't reflect how the media portrayed it. He believes the media's intentions were mistrusting during the Vietnam War.
19;30 Larry Wayne Hertwig, lives in Lisbon, ND. Larry served during the Tet Offensive and tells of his duties after. After leaving Vietnam the war still bares a weight on the soldiers who fought it
21:48 Morrie Schwinden, lives in Fargo, ND. He was stationed on the Island of Okinawa and was in Vietnam during the Tet Offensive. Morrie was dissapointed in decision made by politicians to get involved in Vietnam War.
24:00 Willy Bitz, from Napoleon, ND served in the army during the Vietnam War. He was on the frontlines clearing landmines from the road. Willy didn’t think he'd ever get back home and credits his survival to doing his duty.
