After this, though, I visited the (extremely) giant Buddha of Le Shan (Sichuan Province), and now I think that the one in Meng Shan is a medium-sized Buddha.
Chinese budda gets humongous golden cassock
An ancient Buddha statue has been given a new look after locals donated a gigantic golden cassock to cover its crumbling parts.
The 1,500-year-old Mengshan Buddha on Meng Mountain near Taiyuan, in Shanxi province has seen some wear and tear over the years and is in dire need of a sprucing up.
Last year, the 206ft (63 metre) tall statue was given a £6.6million facelift, however the money did not last further down than the neck.

Mengshan Mountain is 1,1,56m above sea-level. It is well known for it's fresh air, and it is claimed that the residents who live here live much longer lives. The god of longevity is carved into the mountainside.

명.청代 4대 명문가 '정승 왕氏' 집안의 대궐 같은 집으로 무려 500년에 걸쳐 지어졌고 45,000평방미터 면적에 교육시
설, 방호(방위)시설 등을 갖춘 1,118칸의 방이 있으며 '중국 민간의 자금성'으로 불린다.
그렇다면 이 곳의 왕씨들은 어떻게 이렇게 큰 저택을 건축할 수 있었을까?
산서성은 태항산의 서쪽에 위치하고 있다 해서 산서성이라는데, 북쪽으로 장성을 사이에 두고 몽고와 접하고 있으며
일년내내 기후변화가 심하고 산세도 험난하고 농지도 부족해 주민도 적고 변변한 지역특산물 조차 없어서 산서 남자
들은 생계를 위해 열 살이 넘으면 객지로 장사를 떠나 성실하고 근면, 절약하면서 돈을 모았다 한다. 이처럼 객지로
나간 상인을 '산서상인' 또는 '진상(晉商)'이라 한다. 진상이라 한 것은 이곳 옛 지명이 진(晉)이었으니 그렇게 불렀다.
800여년 前의 원나라 때 정승왕씨의 조상이 이곳에 이르러 농사를 지으며 두부장사를 해서 많은 돈을 벌었고, 청나라
때인 1673년 왕씨가문은 청나라 정부군이 반군과 싸우는데 말 24필을 지원해 황제의 표창을 받았었고,그로부터 청 정
부의 힘을 빌어 더 큰 장사를 벌이게 되었으며, 그 뒤에는 王씨 가문에서 과거급제를 통하거나 뇌물을 동원 방법으로
벼슬길에 오르기 시작했는데 최고로 정2품직에오른 사람도 있었다. 농사로 시작 장사로 돈을 모으고 관리에 까지 오
른 왕씨가문은 청나라 중반에이르러 현지의 4대갑부가 되었다.
500여년에 걸쳐 대대적인 공사를 계속해 저택을 신축하고 사당과 패방을 세우고 묘를 조성하여 현재가 되었다.
왕가대원은 골목3갈래, 보루 4채, 사당 5개를 보유하고 있으나, 현재 관광객에게 개방되는 곳은 번성기의 1/4 정도밖에
안되는 골목 1길, 보루 2채 뿐이다.
