euronews Life - Moscow by metro
In the penultimate episode of Russian life, euronews explores the capital Moscow.
We began with the city's famous underground. Carrying over 7 million passengers a day, the metro is Moscow's vital transport artery, and the best way to avoid the sometimes unbearable road traffic.
It was also one of the USSR's most extravagant architectural projects, embodying the utopian idea of a bright Communist future. The original stations, built in the 1930s, are true underground palaces with marble walls, elaborate mosaics and cast bronze statues.
Most of the metro lines run through the city centre, which is covered with attractions. One of these is Arbat, one of the oldest surviving pedestrian streets, displaying diverse subcultures and lifestyles of the Russian capital.

More about the Moscow Metro from Wiki:
Opened in 1935 with one 11-kilometre (6.8 mi) line and 13 stations, it was the first underground railway system in the Soviet Union.
As of 2019, the Moscow Metro excluding the Moscow Central Circle and Moscow Monorail has 232 stations (263 with Moscow Central Circle) and its route length is 397.3 km (246.9 mi), making it the fifth longest in the world.
The system is mostly underground, with the deepest section 84 metres (276 ft) underground at the Park Pobedy station, one of the world's deepest.
It is the busiest metro system in Europe, and a tourist attraction in itself. As of 2017, the system had an average daily ridership of 6.99 million passengers. Peak daily ridership of 9.71 million was recorded on 26 December 2014.

THE BEAUTIFUL MOSCOW METRO
Welcome to the most beautiful and most accessible museum in Moscow - the Metro. The Moscow Metro is one of the busiest underground systems in the world with a daily ridership of over 9 million people. The Moscow Metro is the world record-holder for on-time departures and arrivals. According to the Moscow transport department, its accuracy is 99.99 percent and the average train during rush hour is every 90 seconds. The metro is so beautiful that 44 of the nearly 200 stations are listed as cultural heritage sites. During World War Two, the Moscow metro became bomb-proof shelters, like in London. Half a million people found shelter underground, and people slept in the carriages of trains that were parked overnight in stations. When airstrikes were especially frequent, there were shops and hairdressing salons in operation at the stations, and for example the Kurskaya metro station had a working library. There is a legend concerning the appearance of the circle line, which wasn’t originally planned. The myth states that during a meeting, Stalin put his cup of coffee on the metro map leaving a brown circle around the city center. Stalin showed the circle to the builders and ordered the construction of such a line. This is why the line is brown. Around 26 metro stations were renamed after the collapse of the Soviet Union as well as names of streets, squares and avenues around the city. Main reason for that was, of course, letting go of the Communist past. Like the Oyster card in London or the Octopus card in Hong Kong, Moscow has the Troika Card. The Troika is a contactless reusable card designed to pay for public transport in Moscow. Passengers using the Troika card can pay for their trips by bus, trolleybus, or tram for 31 rubles and the Moscow Metro for 32 rubles. It's also possible to get unlimited cards, like mine which is 5000 rubles for 3 months. If you’re using the metro in moscow, I highly recommend the yandex metro app. It is an interactive metro map of Moscow which calculates your time and route. To help those who are visually impaired, as well as people just lost, the metro announcers voice changes. On a journey towards the centre, a man’s voice is used. While going away, a woman’s. As always, thanks for watching, and please subscribe to my channel for more information about Moscow!

Moscow In Your Pocket - Moscow Metro Tour
Moscow In Your Pocket editor, Jennifer Fell tours the Moscow metro (subway for our American friends) and shows us the dog statue at station Ploshchad Revolyutsii which every Moscovite touches for good luck.
The Moscow Metro is busier than any flower shop on Womens Day, not only is the Moscow Metro the easiest way to get around the city, it is also famous in its own right. Today the metro consists of ten lines including the busy Koltsovoye Circle line that rings the centre of Moscow. Begun in 1931, architects immortalised great Soviet achievements with exceptional art and design (a by no means exhaustive list - today theres 173 stations!) are Mayakovskaya, Novoslobskaya, Kievskaya and Dobrinskaya. Cost per ride is 19Rbl, operating hours are from 05:30 - 06:00 until 01:00. Purchase a plastic-coated card and buy a specified number of trips, pass through the barriers by swiping the card. When you are on the train, the loudspeakers announce the name of the station you are arriving into, then as the doors close, they they announce the next station. If you missed your station, you don't have time to get off so play close attention.

MOSCOW METRO STATIONS, Interesting FACTS and the Christ Savior Cathedral, RUSSIA 2019. МОСКВА РОССИЯ
MOSCOW METRO STATIONS, Interesting FACTS + the Christ Savior Cathedral, RUSSIA 2019
Moscow Metro is the only underground system in the world where every station has a unique design. A design that represents architecture, art and history. It starting operating in 1935 and now considered as one of the busiest and most crowded.
And in this video, we are going deeper through the undergrounds and a cathedral which played an important role to the history of Moscow, Russia. We will be discovering answers to questions like (a) how big is the he Moscow Metro? (b) what was the role of the metro during the war? (c) How many babies were born inside the metro?, etc.
Knowing what we know now about Moscow and Russia we now somehow start to understand this country. I initially thought it to be the home of cruel, brutal, nuclear power. Now I know for myself that none of this perceptions of mine is true! None! This is a country rich in history, culture and tradition.
And to better understand more of their culture, join us next week to the city's Cultural Center, the VDNKh.
Thank you for watching! See u next week! ????

Top 10 MUST visit places in Moscow | Russia
10 must visit places in Moscow | Russia
Hello everyone! My name is Daria!
There are hundreds points of attraction in Moscow but I guess if you have only couple of days you haven’t so much time to visit all of them, that’s why for your attention I will show you my favorite places in Moscow. I see the best time for visiting Moscow since April because for example in this March we had terrible spring with 10 degrees below zero. If you don’t want to be frozen and want to walk more welcome since late spring. All of the places which I’m going to tell about are in the center. Let’s get into it!
1. Red square
Красная площадь
The Red Square is the most popular and that’s why most of the time crowded city plaza in Moscow but despite this fact I like to be there and set a meeting point near Ohotny ryad station. It absolutely should be the
first place in your travel rout. Red Square is a beautiful historical place with many interesting buildings and monuments around. I like the atmosphere which you can feel walking along the streets.
2. St. Basil’s Cathedral
Собор Василия Блаженного
On the Red square you may see a colorful unusual cathedral. It’s a St. Basil’s Cathedral. It was built in 16th century and now works as a museum
This is a unique cathedral, mix of details has no analogues in Russian architecture.
More info you may find here
The ticket for adults is 350 rubles.
3. GUM
ГУМ
It’s on Red Square, as well, near St.Basils Cathedral. This is a huge beautiful shopping mall in neo-Russian style where you can walk inside, eat an ice-cream and visit Stolovaya No 57. It’s a canteen which offers Russian Soviet Food.
4. Bolshoi theatre and places around
Большой театр и места вокруг
The Bolshoi Theatre is a historic theatre in Moscow and one of the huge in Russia, which holds ballet and opera performances and which you may see on 100 rubles banknote.
You will see Bolshoy theatre, Maliy Theathe (Малый театр), TsuM ЦУМ (it’s a premium shopping mall mostly with expensive brands) and go to Kuznetskiy most street. You will find plenty of bars and cafes. I adore this district because It’s full of live. In spring and in summer musician bands play on the streets. Their performances and genres are different and you will enjoy just sitting on a bench and listening to music.
5. Old Arbat st and New Arbat st
Старый Арбат и Новый Арбат
There are 2 parallel streets. Old Arbat is one of the oldest street. Moscow intellectuals such as Pushkin, Blok, Tolstoy, Gogol, Chehov and many others lived there. New Arbat is a modern designed street with contemporary installations, benches and buildings.
6. Cathedral of Christ the Savior (view point)
Храм Христа Спасителя (смотровая площадка)
The Cathedral of Christ the Saviour (Храм Христа Спасителя,) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral in Moscow, Russia, it is the tallest Orthodox Christian church in the world. More info about this one is here, check it out.
The entry is free but if you want to go to see a view point the ticket cost as I remember around 200 rubles.
7. Kitay-Gorod district, Maroseyka st
Район Китай-города, ул. Маросейка
I love this street for its wonderful atmosphere. You may feel an old Moscow here. There are plenty of nice buildings, cafes with terraces outside, churches. Order a cup of coffee and watching people walking by.
8. Gorky park
Парк Горького
Has a huge territory. It’s a very popular place in the capital. In warm time of a year, you will see many people of different ages, cultures, styles , you may take a participation in dancing classes which are held on the embankment of Moscow River, watch movies under the sky, listen to music bands, have a rest near lakes or river, ride on bicycle or other strange vehicle.
9. Zaryadye Park
Парк Зарядье
I add this one, because it’s a new park which was finished in 2017. This project was a new and innovative for Moscow. You will see the floating bridge, amphitheater with futuristic roof, media centers. I think this is worthy of your attention.
Ulitsa Varvarka 6, Building 1
10. The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts
Музей изобразительных искусств имени Пушкина
This is one of my favorite museums. It looks like an ancient temple of Greece but in the center of urban life. Art Collection is different, you will find sculptures, paintings, and graphics of outstanding European artists of different centuries.
This building is more than 100 years old.
Mostly there are many people want to get there and avoiding waiting in a line you may buy tickets online.
300 rubles for adults
Moscow, Russia, Volkhonka 12
These were 10 places where you can go and feel real Moscow life. Thanks for your attention. Welcome! Bye!
