Business Spotlight - Brushy Mountain Golf Club
This episode of the “Alexander County Business Spotlight” features Brushy Mountain Golf Club and its new restaurant, McLindon’s. The course, which opened in 1964, is owned by Baxter Hayes. He purchased the popular golf course in October 2013, and recently finished a new clubhouse and restaurant, as well as upgrades to the course itself. Construction of a 10-room lodge is currently under way. The clubhouse is approximately 12,000 square feet, including a 2,160 square foot deck and 3,300 square foot event/dining area, with a bar area complete with big-screen TVs. Hayes said the new facilities are keeping locals here, and attracting visitors as well. “We’re just going to try to do some stuff for Alexander County that we’ve always had to go across the river or county line to do,” Hayes stated. If you take your money to another county, it stays there. Not only are the social activities attracting people, but the course membership has also increased from 244 members to 420 members in just a year. Brushy Mountain Golf Club and McLindon's are open to the general public. Members enjoy a 10 percent discount on food and merchandise. If you're not a golfer, social memberships are available for those who frequent the club. For more information, visit BrushyMountainGolf.com or call (828) 632-4804.

When thinking of natural low country beauty the unspoiled “Avenue of the Oaks” of Heritage Plantation is the first thing that comes to mind. Situated on 637 acres of the previous True Blue and Midway Plantation’s, Heritage Plantation is a spectacular reminder of the rich South Carolina rice culture. While lush giant magnolias, fresh water ponds, marshes, and wetlands are bountiful at Heritage Plantation, the 300-year-old Spanish Moss crowned live oak trees are a sight on their own.
Taking second place behind the majestic low country beauty of Heritage Plantation are the available real estate offerings. With only 512 homesites on the sprawling 637 acre plantation privacy and a congested free lifestyle is afforded to all property owners. While there are no condominiums or “villas” at Heritage Plantation, the patio home section is a perfect option for those future residents looking to downsize. The custom and estate home sections have some of the most masterfully crafted homes along the Carolina Coast.
While vacant land is scarce at Heritage Plantation, there are some beautiful homesites available for sale. You can buy your land now and build whenever you are ready. The amenity package available to all property owners leaves little to be desired. Access for owners and their guests at a spacious Owners Clubhouse with a pool, hot tub, fitness area, playground, and 4 Har-Tru tennis courts are included in your yearly homeowner’s dues. Also inclusive of your homeowner dues is access to a spectacular Intracoastal Waterway marina and a large social area with a full time dock master. Please see the dock master for information on the wet and dry dock storage options.
A blog post about Heritage Plantation could not be complete without talking about the Par 71 Dan Maples designed golf course. Golf Digest ranks Heritage Club among the “50 Best Public Golf Courses in America”. Following the natural contours of the land, running along the long abandoned rice fields, the spacious fairways and large undulating greens are sure to provide one of the most enjoyable and scenic golf experiences. While play at Heritage Club is open to the public, membership options are available for property owners.

1917
In Select Theaters Christmas, Everywhere January 10
Sam Mendes, the Oscar®-winning director of Skyfall, Spectre and American Beauty, brings his singular vision to his World War I epic, 1917.
At the height of the First World War, two young British soldiers, Schofield (Captain Fantastic’s George MacKay) and Blake (Game of Thrones’ Dean-Charles Chapman) are given a seemingly impossible mission. In a race against time, they must cross enemy territory and deliver a message that will stop a deadly attack on hundreds of soldiers—Blake’s own brother among them.
1917 is directed by Sam Mendes, who wrote the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (Showtime’s Penny Dreadful). The film is produced by Mendes and Pippa Harris (co-executive producer, Revolutionary Road; executive producer, Away We Go) for their Neal Street Productions, Jayne-Ann Tenggren (co-producer, The Rhythm Section; associate producer, Spectre), Callum McDougall (executive producer, Mary Poppins Returns, Skyfall) and Brian Oliver (executive producer, Rocketman; Black Swan).
The film is produced by Neal Street Productions for DreamWorks Pictures in association with New Republic Pictures. Universal Pictures will release the film domestically in limited release on December 25, 2019 and wide on January 10, 2020. Universal and Amblin Partners will distribute the film internationally, with eOne distributing on behalf of Amblin in the U.K.
