WE CLIMBED LONDON’S O2 ARENA
...Suited, Booted and ready for anything! Celebrating Baby Kate's 30th birthday on the roof of London's iconic Millennium Dome (The O2 Arena). A great experience!
'Up at The O2' is a 90 minute experience that takes you over the roof of The O2 via a fabric walkway. Suspended 2m above the surface of the Domes canopy roof, the walkway is 52m above ground level and 380m long. At its steepest point the walkway has an incline of 28° on the way up and 30° on the way back down and has a slight bounce to it to mirror the surface of the tent. With 360 degree views, you can see for 15 miles and spot many of London's famous landmarks.
Visit the O2 website for details on twilight, day of sunset climbs:
The Dome:
Located on the Greenwich Peninsula in South East London, England, The Millennium Dome is the original name of the large dome-shaped building. It was originally used to house the Millennium Experience, a major exhibition celebrating the beginning of the third millennium, but is now the busiest music/sport entertainment venue in the world. The dome has become one of London's most recognisable landmarks.
Facts:
- The dome has twelve 100 m-high yellow support towers, one for each month of the year, or each hour of the clock face, representing the role played by Greenwich Mean Time.
- In plan view it is circular, 365 m (one metre for each day in a standard year) in diameter.
- The Dome is ten times the size of St Paul’s Cathedral.
- The entire roof structure weighs less than the air contained within the building.
- The Dome was featured in a chase sequence of the 1999 James Bond film The World Is Not Enough, culminating in Bond rolling down the roof of the Dome.
- It cost £ 789 million (£1.22 billion in 2016 pounds) to build.
- As with all tent canopies, the roof has a finite, weathering, life and once this is reached the decision will need to be made, either to replace it, at enormous cost, or to remove the entire structure.

London Eye View - Millennium Wheel Over Thames River
No trip to London is complete without seeing and even being on a London Eye trip/tour. On a good day you can see all around the South Bank of the River Thames. Sometimes called the Big Wheel - or the Millennium Wheel - when it was first installed back in 1999 - it has become an incredibly popular attraction.
The structure is 443 feet (135 m) tall and the wheel has a diameter of 394 feet (120 m). When it opened to the public in 2000 it was the world's tallest Ferris wheel. It is now known as the Coca-Cola London Eye due to a certain sponsorship deal!
There are 32 sealed air conditioned ovoidal passenger capsules which represent the 32 London boroughs. Each capsule holds a maximum of 25 people and you can actually walk around the capsule while it is moving - the rotation is very slow! The original wheel was owned by The Tussaud's Group, British Airways and Marks Barfield who were the original architects - but Tussaud's bought their partners out in 2005 and 2006. The Blackstone Group bought Tussaud's out in 2007 - but the London Eye has stayed true to the core as a principal tourist attraction for anyone visiting London for a weekend shopping or sight seeing trip.
London has always been a leading global city that people from around the world come to visit, it leads in different fields; in art, education, fashion, entertainment, commerce, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, as well as tourism and transportation and this means that those who come to London do not just come for the sake of touring the city, but they might be also coming to study.
There are lots of different things that would make London one of the most visited cities around the world, if not for the different touristic attractions and old English buildings that attract the eyes then it would at least be for visiting one of the cities that lead the world in education with its universities or even for being the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games for three times.
There are lots of places for one to visit while being in London City, London Eye is definitely one of them since it gives people the chance to have full view of the city while they are rotating up there in this wheel; they will get to see Big Ben, London Bridge, Tower Bridge, and have a general view across River Thames and all those important tall buildings which might be located by it.
Generally speaking, there are other important places which one should visit when it comes to London that are not just related to London Eye and those other attractions which might be close enough. Those other touristic locations will include the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace and managing to choose a time during the changing of the guards, Madame Tussaud's London and searching for those famous characters which are considered your favorite, SEA LIFE London and exploring the life under the water with those creatures living inside, the view from the Shard which will bring you up to 40 miles and give you the chance to see the whole city from up there, Kensington Palace, and add to these historical attractions some other places that include London Dungeon and for those Harry Potter lovers there is Warner Bros Studio Tour.
These are all the different touristic destinations which might be always standing on the top of the list when it comes to London, but there are other places which tourists tend to visit and things which they tend to do in London, such as visiting Oxford and Regent streets, either for shopping or just for checking the streets in general, they might also ride the hop-on hop-off bus for a tour around the city, there are those football admirers who visit Chelsea FC Stadium for a tour there, or other general walking tours which are usually done around the city.
Whether it is about the historical English culture that is delivered through the buildings and the museums, about the walking tours which are done throughout the streets of the city, checking those new museums that are related to famous characters and movies and series, or even the food which one might come to taste in this beautiful city, there are lots of things to be done in this beautiful old city that would bring more tourists to it every single year and make the whole thing appear more interesting.
We have been to London before several times and for the sake of this channel, we have been before to the National History Museum which you could check its video here ( and which is considered one of the best museums in all of London. This time we have been to the famous London Eye and we have even managed to bring the view from up there.
If you haven't been to Coca-Cola London Eye yet then you should definitely go and check this beautiful city and enjoy all its touristic attractions.
Coca-Cola London Eye will never be missed or removed from any plan related to London and it will definitely bring perfect views for the visitors.
Chicago 4K - Chicago's Main Street - Driving Downtown - The Magnificent Mile
Wednesday afternoon drive along Chicago's version of 5th Avenue (New York City) and Rodeo Drive (Los Angeles/Beverly Hills).
Michigan Avenue is a street well known to Chicago natives as well as tourists to the city. The Magnificent Mile is an upscale section of Michigan Avenue. As the home of the Chicago Water Tower, the Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, and the shopping on the Magnificent Mile, Michigan Avenue also is the main commercial street of Streeterville. It includes all of the Historic Michigan Boulevard District and most of the Michigan–Wacker Historic District, including the scenic urban space anchored by the Michigan Avenue Bridge.
The Magnificent Mile, sometimes referred to as The Mag Mile, is an upscale section of Chicago's Michigan Avenue, running from the Chicago River to Oak Street in the Near North Side. The district is located adjacent to downtown, and one block east of Rush Street. The Magnificent Mile serves as the main thoroughfare between Chicago's Loop business district and its Gold Coast. It is generally the western boundary of the Streeterville neighborhood, to its east and River North to the west.
Real estate developer Arthur Rubloff of Rubloff Company gave the district its nickname in the 1940s. Currently Chicago's largest shopping district, various mid-range and high-end shops line this section of the street; approximately 3,100,000 square feet (290,000 m2) are occupied by retail, restaurants, museums and hotels. To date, rent on The Magnificent Mile is the eighth most expensive in the United States, behind Fifth Avenue in New York and Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.
Tall buildings, such as the 875 North Michigan Avenue are in the district. Landmarks along the Magnificent Mile include Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower, the Chicago Water Tower, and the Allerton, Drake and Intercontinental Hotels.
Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States. At nearly 10 million people, the metropolitan area is the third-largest in the United States.
Chicago's 58 million domestic and international visitors in 2018 made it the second most visited city in the nation, behind New York City's approximate 65 million visitors. The city ranked first place in the 2018 Time Out City Life Index, a global quality of life survey of 15,000 people in 32 cities. The city is also home to several fortune 500 companies, the most notable being, Allstate, Boeing, Exelon, McDonald's, Quaker Oats, and United Airlines Holdings. Landmarks in the city include Millennium Park, Navy Pier, the Magnificent Mile, the Art Institute of Chicago, Museum Campus, the Willis (Sears) Tower, Grant Park (Chicago), the Museum of Science and Industry, and Lincoln Park Zoo. Chicago's culture includes the visual arts, literature, film, theater, comedy (especially improvisational comedy), food, and music, particularly jazz, blues, soul, hip-hop, gospel, and electronic dance music including house music. Of the area's many colleges and universities, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago are classified as highest research doctoral universities. Chicago has professional sports teams in each of the major professional leagues, including two Major League Baseball teams.

Millennium bridge - River Thames in London - St Paul's Cathedral - Lundúnarferð - London
River Thames - The Millennium Bridge, officially known as the London Millennium Footbridge, is a steel suspension bridge for pedestrians crossing the River Thames in London, linking Bankside with the City of London. It is located between Southwark Bridge and Blackfriars Railway Bridge. It is owned and maintained by Bridge House Estates, a charitable trust overseen by the City of London Corporation. Construction began in 1998 and it initially opened in June 2000. Londoners nicknamed the bridge the Wobbly Bridge after pedestrians felt unexpected swaying motion. The bridge was closed later on opening day and, after two days of limited access, it was closed for almost two years while modifications were made to eliminate the motion. It reopened in 2002. The southern end of the bridge is near the Globe theatre, the Bankside Gallery, and Tate Modern, the north end next to the City of London School below St Paul's Cathedral. The bridge alignment is such that a clear view of St Paul's south façade is presented from across the river, framed by the bridge supports. See more:
The Hungerford Bridge crosses the River Thames in London, and lies between Waterloo Bridge and Westminster Bridge. It is a steel truss railway bridge – sometimes known as the Charing Cross Bridge – flanked by two more recent, cable-stayed, pedestrian bridges that share the railway bridge's foundation piers, and which are named the Golden Jubilee Bridges. The River Thames is a river that flows through southern England. It is the longest river entirely in England and the second longest in the United Kingdom, after the River Severn. While it is best known for flowing through London, the river also flows alongside other towns and cities, including Oxford, Reading, Henley-on-Thames and Windsor. The river gives its name to three informal areas: the Thames Valley, a region of England around the river between Oxford and west London; the Thames Gateway; and the greatly overlapping Thames Estuary around the tidal Thames to the east of London and including the waterway itself. The Thames Path is a wonderful 184 mile walking path that runs from the source of the Thames at Thames Head in Gloucestershire following the iconic river through beautiful countryside and historic towns and villages to the city of London. Several sections of the path are also open to cyclists making for an attractive, safe and easy ride - See more:
The Wibbly Wobbly Millennium Bridge in London
The Wibbly Wobbly Millennium Bridge in London - This was filmed just after the bridge was opened to the public. As you can see it's a tad on the wobbly side.
Such was the interest in the new bridge that when it opened to the public on 10 June 2000, an estimated 80,000 to 100,000 people crossed it.
And then the problems began.
Although the Millennium Bridge, like all bridges, was designed to cope with a degree of movement it soon became clear that things were going seriously awry as the deck swayed about like a drunken sailor.
So the bridge was instantly renamed as 'The Wobbly Bridge', and after two days of random swaying, swinging and oscillating wildly, the bridge was closed down by embarrassed engineers.
Naturally, the press had a field day (in Britain we love failure!), questions were asked in Parliament and the pubic began to sense that perhaps another large white elephant had just landed on the shoreline of the Thames (the fiasco of the Dome was only a few miles downstream).
Things didn't get much clearer when the engineers decided that the problem was apparently due to people walking the wrong way! claiming that the infamous wobble (or 'synchronous lateral excitation', as they put it) was due to the 'chance correlation of footsteps when we walk in a crowd'.
This - apparently - 'generated slight sideways movements of the bridge which made it more comfortable for people to walk in synchronization with the bridge movement'. In other words, once it started to sway people tried to counteract it, en masse, making the problem worse.
After a prolonged series of tests, it was decided to adopt a passive damping system which would harness the movements of the structure to absorb energy.
Two forms of passive damping were deployed: Viscous dampers and Tuned Mass Dampers.
Viscous dampers are located under the deck, around the piers and the south landing to control the lateral motions and act much like shock absorbers.
The tuned mass dampers are also located beneath the deck and reduce vertical movements. Acting like weights on strings, these inertial devices are tuned to a specific frequency and attached to discrete points on the structure.
While work continued on the bridge, visitors were treated to the occasional sight of hundreds of paid volunteers walking over the bridge in army-type formations as the engineers battled to correct the swaying.
After nearly two years of testing, the alterations have deemed a success and the bridge finally reopened to the public in February 2002 - and the swaying was banished forever!
This footage was filmed in June 2000

London is the capital and most populous city of England and the United Kingdom. Standing on the River Thames, London has been a major settlement for two millennia, its history going back to its founding by the Romans, who named it Londinium. London's ancient core, the City of London, largely retains its 1.12-square-mile (2.9 km2) medieval boundaries and in 2011 had a resident population of 7,375, making it the smallest city in England. Since at least the 19th century, the term London has also referred to the metropolis developed around this core. The bulk of this conurbation forms Greater London, a region of England governed by the Mayor of London and the London Assembly. The conurbation also covers two English counties: the small district of the City of London and the county of Greater London. The latter constitutes the vast majority of London, though historically it was split between Middlesex, Essex, Surrey, Kent and Hertfordshire.
London is a leading global city, with strengths in the arts, commerce, education, entertainment, fashion, finance, healthcare, media, professional services, research and development, tourism, and transport all contributing to its prominence. It is one of the world's leading financial centres and has the fifth-or sixth-largest metropolitan area GDP in the world depending on measurement. London is a world cultural capital. It is the world's most-visited city as measured by international arrivals and has the world's largest city airport system measured by passenger traffic. London is the world's leading investment destination, hosting more international retailers and ultra high-net-worth individuals than any other city. London's 43 universities form the largest concentration of higher education institutes in Europe, and a 2014 report placed it first in the world university rankings. According to the report London also ranks first in the world in software, multimedia development and design, and shares first position in technology readiness.[37] In 2012, London became the first city to host the modern Summer Olympic Games three times.

Elegant Residence in Cobham, England, United Kingdom | Sotheby's International Realty

This has to be one of Cobham's most attractive houses. Divided into two, but available as a whole, these houses are simply magnificent. An opportunity to acquire a property of such classic proportions and renovated to these standards in such a beautiful setting, is rare indeed.
Although local records show that a house, originally designed as a gentleman’s residence within an estate, has been on Fairmile Court for over two hundred years, the property in its present form, was actually constructed in the late 19th Century as inscribed on a cornerstone dated MDCCCLXXIX.
The house took its name from a straight section of the Old Portsmouth Road between Esher and Cobham, which is now the A307. This was considered to be a ‘fair mile’ on which to try out a horse and carriage and in later times, the trotting horse. It was the only length of road for miles around that was actually straight, hard and level, although its surface was made up of gravel.
In the earlier part of this century the ‘fairmile’, as the road became known, was a notorious speed trap for the pioneer motorist. It is said to be the place where the famous AA salute originated, not necessarily out of courtesy, but more in order to warn the unwary drivers of a hidden police patrol.
Situated in one of Cobham’s most highly desirable residential neighbourhoods, Fairmile Court House is ideally placed to take full advantage of the excellent communication links and the comprehensive range of facilities available within the immediate area.
Central London is approximately 17 miles away via the A3 and the nearest M25 junction (10) is about three miles from the site providing direct access to the National Motorway Network and Heathrow or Gatwick Airports. The nearest station at Stoke D’Abernon has a large car park and frequent trains that reach London Waterloo in approximately 40 minutes. There is a comprehensive selection of both state and private schools in the area including the American Community School, which is within a reasonable walking distance of the site. Leisure pursuits are well catered for with local clubs covering most sports and social activities. Golf enthusiasts have a number of courses available on which to play and for racegoers, there is a choice Sandown Park, Kempton Park or Epson Racecourses.
