Milner Gardens Remembers Royal Events
QUALICUM BEACH - It is being described as the wedding of the decade possibly even the wedding of the century.
Prince William married Kate Middleton at three o'clock our time this morning while millions around the world watched.
The new royal couple is a poignant reminder of the couple that came before Williams' parents -- Charles and Diana.
At Milner gardens in Qualicum beach the reminder hits very close to home.
In the dining room in Milner house - memories are on display - photographs from a royal visit 25 years ago.
Milner house and its 60 acres of beautiful gardens and wild forest was once the home of Veronica Milner - whose bloodline had direct and indirect ties to royalty.
It was fitting that during the expo 86 royal tour - Prince Charles and Lady Diana would come here for tea.
A year later - it was the Queen and Prince Philip's turn to drop by.
Prince William and his new bride are coming to Canada this summer. And it would make sense that they'd visit Milner gardens - following in the footsteps of mom and dad, grandma and granddad.
But alas - the itinerary for the couple's first royal tour in Canada this July doesn't include British Columbia - let alone Vancouver Island.
It's their loss - although the blooms are 2 weeks late - they're about to explode in colour.
The grounds and tea house are now open to the public - the late veronica milner donated the home and land to Malaspina College - now Vancouver Island University in 1996.
The young royal couple is welcome there any time.

Consuls General from around the world visit VIU
Students and employees got the opportunity to showcase Vancouver Island University (VIU) to more than a dozen representatives from countries around the world.
The University partnered with the Mid Island Business Initiative (MIBI) to tour 14 consuls general with offices in Vancouver around the University and mid-Island region on Tuesday, May 15. A consul general serves as a representative of their own country in another country, providing assistance with bureaucratic issues to both the citizens of the consul’s own country travelling or living abroad, and to the citizens of the country in which the consul resides who wish to travel to or trade with the consul’s country.
The purpose of the visit was to introduce the consuls general to what VIU and the mid-Island have to offer for investors and international students. Each consul general who came on Tuesday was matched up with a student from their home country to tour VIU’s Nanaimo Campus before spending the afternoon at Milner Gardens and Woodland, a public garden in Qualicum Beach owned by the University.
“The goal was to raise awareness about the great work that VIU does for the central Island economy and the opportunities for international students who study here,” says Dr. Graham Pike, Dean of International Education.
VIU has a diverse student body that includes about 2,000 international students from more than 90 countries. Pike introduced the consuls general to some of the unique programming and research facilities VIU has, and talked about the supportive, welcoming learning environment that attracts international students to the region.
