4K 飫肥 日南市 宮崎県 Obi Nichinan Miyazaki Kyushu JAPAN
The Obi district 飫肥, in the center of Nichinan 日南市 city, used to be a small castle town nicknamed 'Little Kyoto'.
Obi Castle 飫肥城. The main gate of the castle was restored with 100-year-old Obi cedar in 1978. Within the castle, the samurai’s mansion, the storehouse, and the white-walled merchant building still remain.
You will often find yourself alone, feeling faintly contrite at having so much space in a country where tourists are accustomed to being shoehorned into such places.
Obi is quite unaffected by mainstream tourism.
There can be very few places of historical or cultural interest in Japan that remain positively underexploited for their tourist potential.
Regarded by many as the cradle of Japanese civilization, Miyazaki prefecture is a wonderful place full of historically significant sites. One of the most beautiful and picturesque of these is Obi town, in Nichinan city.

4K 鵜戸神宮 宮崎県 Udo Shrine Miyazaki, Kyushu JAPAN
Udo-jingū 鵜戸神宮 is a Shinto shrine in Nichinan, Miyazaki prefecture, Japan, south of Aoshima.
Udo shrine is in a cave in the side of the cliff, near the Nichinan coast of Miyazaki. The honden, or main shrine, is in a cavern with a spectacular view of the ocean.
In the cave is the ochichi iwa, or breast stone, a dripping stone which is said to have fed the kami Ugayafukiaezu, father of the first emperor of Japan, when his mother returned to the sea. The shrine sells a candy made from the water of this stone, mizuame, a kind of taffy.
In the slight distance of the cavern is a rocky island with two peaks. Attendees can purchase small clay balls and attempt to toss them between the peaks for good luck
It is the mythical birthplace of Emperor Jimmu's father Yamasachihiko, dedicated to Ugayafukiaezu, Amaterasu, Amenooshihomimi, Ninigi-no-Mikoto, Hoori and Emperor Jimmu. The shrine is popular with young couples hoping for easy childbirth and a happy marriage.

Koi Village & the mountains where koi come from
Who knew koi were farmed in the mountains? The city Ojiya in Niigata gets completely frozen over in winter, but evidently koi are fine with that! These nishikigoi here in Niigata are apparently the original koi that all Japanese koi fish were bred from.

Heiwadai Park, or Peace Tower Park, was built in 1940 to celebrate the 2600th anniversary of the ascension of Emperor Jimmu, who was the first emperor of Japan, on what is believed to be the original site of his capital. Inside the park stands Heiwadainoto, or the Peace Tower, a tower constructed of stones sent from all around Asia and one of Miyazaki's most famous landmarks.
The Peace Tower was meant to be a symbol of a united world. On the front of the tower is the phrase Hakko Ichiu, which is attributed to Jimmu or Emper and means United under one roof. While it is a little ambiguous what he meant, this was often used as a rallying cry for imperialists who believed that peace would reign once Asia was united under Japanese leadership.
Heiwadai Park also has an interesting acoustic trick. If you face the Peace Tower from the center of the wide lawn at its base and make a sound, your sound will be magnified and reflected back toward you.
At the far end of the park is the Haniwa Garden, a collection of over 400 replica haniwa (burial figurines) depicting animals, warriors, dancers, houses and boats arranged along a walking path through the trees. During the Kofun Period these clay figurines were placed around burial mounds in tribute to the deceased.

Well, this video was tons of fun to make. And, my husband Aaron even made a surprise appearance in multiple ways!
Just a short 30 minute drive away from our home of Kushima is one of Miyazaki Prefecture's most iconic spots: Cape Toi. A pleasantly green jut of land that gives a nearly 360 degree view of the surrounding Pacific Ocean, it's a great place to have a little adventure. Plus, it's all incredibly cheap! Just 500 Japanese Yen to enter the park, with the lighthouse being another 400 Yen per-person. But, the entirety of the place is more than worth it all.
Go for a short jaunt, or stay all day; you won't be disappointed, especially if you go to have a picnic to watch all the friendly, wild horses.
The annual Fire Festival, which happens near the end of August every year, is perhaps one of the most ridiculous displays I've ever seen in my life. Totally going next year, too! If you want to learn more, you can check out the tourism site here:
*Be warned! It IS in Japanese. So, you may want to use Google Chrome to automatically translate it all.
So, if you happen to be traveling through the southern parts of the country and want a picturesque drive to one of Japan's best kept secrets, be sure to have Cape Toi at the top of your list.

【Japan Heritage】 Kodokan [4K]Mito City|VISIT IBARAKI, JAPAN -OTHER SIGHTS-
【Filmed Date: 2015.5.27】
The Kodokan is one of Japan’s national historical sites and important cultural properties, located in Mito city. It was the largest school of feudal domain in Japan, established by the ninth feudal lord of the Mito Clan, Nariaki Tokugawa, in 1842.
The last Shogun, Yoshinobu Tokugawa, studied at this school in his early childhood, and spent his life while he was confined after the restoration of imperial rule.
In this filming, we were able to film things we can’t normally see such as the real bird’s eye view drawing, the inside of Confucian temple, and the Kodokan-ki monument in the eight trigrams hall.

4K 知覧武家屋敷庭園 Chiran Samurai Gardens , Kagoshima Kyushu Japan
Chiran 知覧 is a small town in the middle of the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture, Kyushu Japan. There is a preserved samurai district with houses and gardens built about 250 years ago. Most of the gardens were built in the 17th century by gardeners brought from Kyoto for the purpose.
Chiran's Seven Samurai gardens at the southern end of Kyushu keep much of its historical character intact.
The preserved samurai district consists of a 700 meter long street. The street itself is very attractive, with the rock walls and hedges of residences and the forested hillsides in the distance. It is also free of telephone cables and parked cars that would detract from the historic atmosphere.
