Unsinkable Molly Brown House (Denver Colorado)
Unsinkable Molly Brown House
This has been on our list of things do for a long time and we finally got around to checking it out. If you love RMS Titanic history, Colorado or Denver History, this is the place to go! Our guid was very knowledgable about Margaret Brown as well as early Denver Colorado. I couldn't fit every little detail we learned during our trip into this video. Its well worth the time to see...its a great time to visit now, the house is sporting its Christmas decorations, very period decorations at that! All money raised from ticket sales, donations, and gift shop is used to help preserve the house. Example, they just got through replacing the boiler that gave out. So everything helps!

Keeping History Alive at the Molly Brown House Museum
Set to Lady Gaga's hit song Applause, this video depicts a day in the life of a docent at the Molly Brown House Museum. Every day, our docents and staff work hard to keep Colorado history alive for tourists and locals alike. Serving a city and state that was built for dreamers, fortune-seekers, and adventurers, we take pride in our museum and our community. It's an honor every day to teach our guests how the incredible and tenacious Molly affected our beautiful state, and we hope that shines through our video. To us, the story of Margaret and the Brown family is still alive and well.
While this video has been created to enter into the When You Work at a Museum website's #museumdanceoff2 video contest (voting starts April 20th, 2015!), we still hope it gives you a little taste of Margaret's life and inspires you to come visit us next time you're in Denver!
We'd like to give a big thanks to all of our staff, directors, and volunteers involved with this project. And another thanks goes out to Mrs. Margaret Brown for stepping out after 83 years and dancing with us. Also, we'd love to thank our director's six year-old son, who let us borrow his camera to shoot this video. If it was, little sir, this wouldn't have been possible!
This video was written, choreographed, and edited by the Molly Brown House Museum's collections intern Cat Trumpis, who definitely feels like one lucky duck for getting such a wonderful opportunity!!

Places to see in ( Denver - USA )
Denver, the capital of Colorado, is an American metropolis dating to the Old West era. Larimer Square, the city’s oldest block, features landmark 19th-century buildings. Museums include the Denver Art Museum, an ultramodern complex known for its collection of indigenous works, and the mansion of famed Titanic survivor Molly Brown. Denver is also a jumping-off point for ski resorts in the nearby Rocky Mountains.
Denver is a vibrant city with plenty of attractions for visitors, plus a diverse collection of neighborhoods that can be attractions in themselves. Many of Denver's older areas are the perfect density for exploration; you'll find an interesting mix of apartments and homes with flowery front gardens, wide flagstone sidewalks, bright green lawns and big, shady trees. Capitol Hill, Highlands, Baker, Berkeley, Uptown, Sloan's Lake, Cheesman, Washington, City and Congress Parks are just some of the neighborhoods bustling with people and places to see.
Denver has many beautiful parks that are full of colorful gardens, meandering paths, crystal clear lakes, abundant wildlife and recreation opportunities. The city has a rich pioneer history, and there are plenty of museums where you can learn all about it. It's also a very environmentally conscious city, with one of the nation’s first municipal “Green Fleets”, public transit vehicles using hybrid and alternative fuel and a city tree-planting initiative. Hop on a green bus, grab a bike or just walk around to discover Denver.
Thanks to a re-urbanization of the city's central core, Denver now has name-worthy neighborhoods with flavors that are all their own – River North (RiNo) for hipster bars and eye-catching street art, Lower Highlands (LoHi) and South Broadway for great eateries and live music, Cherry Creek for glam, Lower Downtown (LoDo) for upscale restaurants and cocktail lounges as well as the Golden Triangle and Santa Fe for arts, theater and museums. In all, there's a neighborhood and a vibe for just about anybody.

Historic, Queen Anne, Molly Brown House
Margaret "Molly" Tobin Brown was born in Hannibal, Missouri to working class
Irish parents. Known as Margaret or Maggie, never Molly, she moved to Leadville,
Colorado when she was 18. There she met and married James Joseph "J.J." Brown,
also from a working class Irish family. In 1893, J.J. discovered the largest and
purest vein of gold and copper ore known at that time. The Browns moved to
Denver where they purchased the house at 1340 Pennsylvania in the fashionable
Capitol Hill neighborhood for $30,000 from Isaac and Mary Large. Margaret owned
the home until her death in 1932. It was here that she returned after surviving the
sinking of the Titanic and earning her nickname "Unsinkable".
Between 1932 and 1970, the house had five different owners. Each converted the
original fourteen-room home into an apartment building or boarding house. Ceilings
were lowered, rooms were subdivided and more kitchens and bathrooms were
added. In 1970 the home was owned by Art Leisenring. Mr. Leisenring leased the
building to the City and County of Denver for use as a "home for wayward girls".
He noticed, however, that most of the single-family buildings on Capitol Hill were
being demolished or converted into office buildings. Mr. Leisenring helped form
Historic Denver, Inc. for the express purpose of saving the Molly Brown House
from this fate in the future. The house was lovingly restored to its original floorplan
and decorations of 1910. The Molly Brown House Museum opened its doors to the
public in 1971 and sees more than 45,000 visitors each year. Today, Historic
Denver is one of the country's largest, private preservation organizations. In
addition to running the Molly Brown House Museum, Historic Denver is credited
with successfully lobbying for historic landmark designations for numerous
neighborhoods and buildings in the Denver area.
The Molly Brown House was built with both Manitou sandstone and rusticated
Castle Rock rhyolite. It is one of the few buildings known to combine these two
stones. The Queen Anne style is tempered by Romanesque Revival arches and
rusticated stonework. Other common elements of the Queen Anne style are the four
stained glass windows, wraparound porch and balconies.
Car drove through privacy wall at the Molly Brown Summer Home near Denver
Molly Brown's summer home, built in 1897, is located at 2690 South Wadsworth Blvd in Lakewood, Colorado. As you can see in this recording a car drove through the property's privacy wall off Wadsworth Boulevard. This two story buttered brick home originally sat on 450 acres (182 hectares) and was used as a country retreat that featured a fishing pond, terraced lawns and stunning flower beds.
Born Margaret Tobin in 1867, to immigrant Irish parents, Molly Brown became famous as one of the survivors of the Titanic disaster. She later became an activist to promote the rights of workers and women, education and literacy for children, historic preservation. She also worked on commemoration of the bravery and chivalry displayed by the men aboard the Titanic.
