Glass of Nepenthe
2013 Composition by Dave Waugh, World Premiere October 20, 2013 at the Crowden Music Center, Berkeley, California
Eliza O'Malley, soprano, and Stacy Pelinka, flute
Program Note:
Adapted from the 14th stanza of Edgar Allen Poe's The Raven Nepenthe is referred to by only a handful of authors, Homer, Poe and Lovecraft among them. It finds its root in Greek meaning no pain: ne (negative) menthe (from penthos, grief, sorrow). The nature of this drink in literature ranges from a magic potion to cure sadness, to opium, laudanum, or absinthe. This word nepenthe was so characteristic of the stanza, and in a way the entire poem, that I used its essence to shape the meaning and style of the piece. Going between quiet chanting and melodic lyrical song, I try to capture the emotion of someone seeking refuge from their own memories and sorrow, constantly trying to quell the welling-up emotion which bursts out in between states of calm. — Dave Waugh

Brandi Carlile, The Things I Regret (live), Mondavi Winery, 7/14/18
Brandi Carlile and the twins (Tim and Phil Hanseroth) playing The Things I Regret in a live acoustic concert on July 14, 2018 at the Robert Mondavi Vineyard, about 60 miles north of San Francisco, in Oakville, CA (Napa County). The song is from their 2015 album, The Firewatcher's Daughter.
Lyrics:
There’s a hole in my pocket where my dreams fell through,
From a sidewalk in the city to the avenue
There’s a leak in my dam ‘bout the size of a pin,
And I can’t quite remember where the water’s getting in
But when you’re wearing on your sleeve,
All the things you regret,
You can only remember what you want to forget
You feel it tugging at your heart,
Like the stars overhead,
‘Til you rest your bones on the killing bed
Let them roll over me.
Let them roll over me,
When I doubt you
Let them roll over me.
Let them roll over me,
When I doubt you
With the weight of the world resting on my back,
And the road on which I've traveled is as long as it is cracked
But I keep pressing forward with my feet to the ground,
For a heart that is broken makes a beautiful sound
But when you’re wearing on your sleeve,
All the things you regret,
You can only remember what you want to forget
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me,
When I doubt you.
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me,
When I doubt you
Oh oh oh oh-o-oh
Oh oh oh oh-o-oh
I walk through my days like a ghost in a dream,
But the field carries on and my past follows me
It’s hard moving on from the things you done wrong,
When they play in your head like an old fashioned song
But when you’re wearing on your sleeve,
All the things you regret,
You can only remember what you want to forget
Lonely miles,
Without you
Lonely miles,
Without you
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me,
When I doubt you
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me,
When I doubt you
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me
Let them roll over me
Let the ground keep my bones
Let the water be my home
Let the dust hold my soul,
Like a holy rolling stone

Clinton vies for support of Iowa Democrats
(25 Oct 2015) Hillary Rodham Clinton called for support among thousands of Democrats in the US state of Iowa on Saturday, seeking an edge at a high-profile fundraising dinner that could set the tone for the leadoff presidential caucuses in February.
I'm running as a proud Democrat, Clinton, the former secretary of state, said to a large cheering section that waved blue neon sticks.
Clinton and rival Bernie Sanders sit atop a Democratic presidential field that has effectively pared down to a two-person race for the nomination after Vice President Joe Biden announced this week he would not seek the White House.
Two lesser-known rivals, Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee, abandoned the race following Clinton's strong performance on 13 October in the first primary debate.

This take will show you the ACTUAL appearance of the elevator. This had the nice wood theme. This elevator is probably the cleanest, and smoothest elevator in the entire mall.

Jane's Addiction | Jane Says (Live) | Coachella
Jane Says - Jane's Addiction -
Edited by Don Haderlein
Jane's Addiction is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1985. The band's original line-up featured Perry Farrell (vocals), Dave Navarro (guitar), Eric Avery (bass) and Stephen Perkins (drums). After breaking up in 1991, Jane's Addiction briefly reunited in 1997 and again in 2001, both times with Avery declining to participate. In 2008, the band's classic line-up, featuring Avery, reunited and embarked on a world tour. Avery subsequently left the band in early 2010 as the group began work on new material.[1]
Jane's Addiction was one of the first bands to emerge from the early 1990s alternative rock movement to gain mainstream media attention and commercial success in the United States. Their initial farewell tour launched the first Lollapalooza festival, an alternative rock showcase. As a result, Jane's Addiction became icons of what Farrell dubbed the Alternative Nation.[2] The band was ranked 35th on VH1's 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock list.[3] (Wikipedia)
