JAPANESE MONKEY PARK & BAMBOO FOREST in Kyoto
Today we visit the Monkey Park in Arashiyama, Kyoto! Also called Iwatayama Monkey Park (嵐山モンキーパーク), over 150 Macaque monkeys run wild. If you want to feed them, YOU have to go in the cage :)
Afterwards we grab Japanese dessert, including Miyako and Thick Salted Kelp. We also check out the Arayashima Bamboo Forest, which is a mega selfie spot. It's a magical place nonetheless. Watch the video to see the adventure unfold!

Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama Kyoto Japan
Arashiyama Monkey Park Iwatayama Kyoto Japan 7/19/2018. We begin our adventure today riding in a taxi going to Arashiyama Monkey Park. The driver drops us off at the bottom of the Monkey Park trail. We pay to go in Austin is 250 yen, Cheryl and I are 550 yen each. It is 100 degrees, humid and there's no breeze. They say the walk up to the top will take 20 mins. It is a pretty steady incline so since we are out of shape it takes us longer than 20 mins. We make our way up the trail making sure to take advantage of rest stops along the way. We get to the top and are able to walk around with the monkey with caution and rules to follow. To feed the monkeys we had to go inside the feeding house, where you feed the monkeys through a fence. I'm sure this is to protect people from a monkey acting out and so they are not climbing all over you. There is also a beautiful view over the city from there. This was a fun experience to be around the monkeys, feeding them some snacks, and just watching their behaviors and personalities. We end our walk at the bottom of the trail sitting, drinking water and trying to rest in the 100 degree humid weather. It's really cool they have those large fans at certain rest areas. Enjoy!

ARASHIYAMA MONKEY PARK IWATAYAMA IN KYOTO
The park is located in Arashiyama, one of Kyoto’s busiest tourist areas, and is easily accessible by train. It boasts about 120 snow monkeys, which are also called “Japanese macaque.” They are native to Japan, and, yes, these are the type of monkeys seen in iconic photos in which they’re bathing at hot springs in winter.
While the monkeys are human-fed (even tourists have a chance to feed them), they are still wild, the park assures. The “don’t stare” and don’t touch warnings should be followed, though, I witnessed the friendlier monkeys come just centimeters away from visitors.

Kyoto Japan Travel Guide Vlog | Arashiyama Monkey Park & Bamboo Forest
Asslamu Alikom - Greetings of Peace everyone! We hope you enjoy our japan travel vlog about our day trip to visit Kyoto and the Arashiyama area where we visit the Monkey Park and Bamboo Forest.
Top Things to do in Arashiyama 嵐山:
1) Monkey Park Iwatayama
2) Bamboo Forest/Grove
3) Tenryu-ji Temple
4) Okochi Sanso Villa
5) Togetsukyo Bridge
This is part of our travel vlog from our day trip to Kyoto Japan where we started the travel vlog by visiting the top sites in Kyoto such as Fushimi Inari shrine, and temple, Gion district, we also visited a tea ceremony and went to the Nishiki market where we tried amazing japanese food.
Kyoto is a magical city, much more relaxed than Tokyo and Osaka, and is small in size so you can do a lot of fun activities in a short time. The second part of the day we visited the western part of Kyoto where we wanted to see Arashiyama area that is known for its beautiful views and the Monkey Park and Bamboo Forest.
To get to Arashiyama we took a taxi that dropped off right at the famous Togetsukyo Bridge. The bridge is a great starting point for this area where you get breathtaking views of the river and the mountains in the back. There are a lot of tourists here so this is a great thing to do at the beginning of your day in Kyoto.
The monkey park Iwatayama is west of the Togetsukyo bridge and it costs $5 USD to enter. Make sure you do not get there past 4 PM or else you will be unable to see the Monkeys. To get to the Monkey park you will need to hike up the mountain in Arashiyama that takes about 20 minutes. Once you get to the top of the mountain you will find the Monkey Park and lots of monkeys hanging around. You will also have a great viewpoint of Kyoto City where you can relax take some great photos and videos! Please do note feed the monkeys, there is a designated area where you can pay extra to buy bananas and chestnuts to feed the monkeys.
The climb up to top of the monkey park is filled with cherry blossoms trees and great nature.
After the monkey park, we wanted to visit the Bamboo Forest Grove that is about 2 Kms east of the monkey park. All you have to do is cross the Togetsukyo bridge and follow the path, you will pass a lot of great restaurants and stores where you can buy japanese food and matcha ice cream!
The Bamboo forest has one small entrance and you will see lots of signs telling you how to get there. This place is really busy so I recommend getting there early in the morning. The bamboo forest is amazing, the sun shining through the forest and just the peaceful feeling you get by walkng through the bamboo forest is amazing. This is a great opportunity to reflect and connect with nature and enjoy the Japanese culture!
The Bamboo forest is very close to a JR subway station that will take you back to Kyoto JR station where you can take the Shinkansen back to Osaka or back to where you are staying in Kyoto.
We left Kyoto hungry and ready to eat and went back to Osaka. We decided to try a Halal Shabu Shabu Sukiyaki and steak restaurant. Shabu Shabu and Sukiyaki are Japanese Hot pots where you cook vegetables, meat and noodles together in a flavored broth that tastes delicious! The Shabu Shabu Restaurant was located in Namba Station and offers a lot of different meats that are Halal so its a great option for Muslim travellers who want to eat meat.
