It is the world's first free roaming primate sanctuary and spans over 30 acres of forest. A walk into the Monkey-Land
Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary, located in The Crags, Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape, South Africa, is the world’s first free-roaming, multi-species primate sanctuary. Covering an area of 12 hectares of indigenous forest and providing ex-captive primates a healthier, more natural lifestyle. Home to over 550 primates including gibbons, howler monkeys, vervet monkeys, langurs, sakis, capuchins, squirrel monkeys, spider monkeys, ring-tailed lemurs and the critically endangered black and white ruffed lemurs.

Monkeyland is an 18Ha free-roaming primate sanctuary. Home to 11 species of primates, it is the only free roaming multi species primate sanctuary in the world.
Birds of Eden, right next door, boasts the largest single dome aviary in the world and hosts over 200 different bird species in a spectacular free-flight environment.

Monkeyland has as one of its aims, to create awareness about the plight of primates and to show that with a greater understanding of our primate cousins, that we can all live in harmony.
Monkeyland is situated in South Africa about 150km from Mossel Bay and about 50km from Knysna. Our exact location is The Crags, which is 16km east from Plettenberg Bay. Simply take the N2, pass Knysna, pass Plettenberg Bay and continue past Keurboomstrand on to The Crags.

Sometimes the 600D footage looks different, but that is because I don't master the art of color-editing yet. Just to answer the obvious question: No, I can't say which one of the two is better. I didn't make this video as a competition!

The MonkeylandKZN sanctuary is located in the Ballito area and a mere 16km from the King Shaka Durban International Airport.
MonkeylandKZN will offer tours (They call them monkey safaris) during which you will see many species of primates comprising of :
1) capuchin monkeys
2) ringtail lemurs
3) black-and-white ruffed lemurs
4) buff-cheeked gibbons
5) squirrel monkeys
6) black howler monkeys in their forest home

Birds of Eden, in the Crags on the Garden Route of South Africa
Via wikemy.com/birdsofeden Birds of Eden is the world's biggest free flight aviary. It is in essence a sanctuary for unwanted birds from all over the world. Many were shoulder pets before, like most of the parrots you'll find here. Others were donated by zoos and even companies like Disneyland. The aviary is over two hectares in size and netting stretches 34 metres into the sky above.
Birds of Eden is located in the Crags right next to the primate sanctuary monkeyland, on the Garden Route of South Africa, close to the small town of Nature's Valley.

This is Atlas the White Handed Lar Gibbon and Liam the Spider Monkey who both call Monkeyland Primate Sanctuary outside Plettenberg Bay - HOME. Liam who was born in the sanctuary has only one other Spider Monkey - his mom - however, that has not stopped him from building bonds and playing with other species. It shows you do not have to be the same species (or race) to be best of friends
