One day in Kazan, Russia. Things to do | 2018
One day in Kazan, Russia. Things to do | 2018
My name is Daria and I live in Moscow. I decided to make a little trip to Kazan for one day.
Some facts.
Kazan is the sixth most populous city in Russia.
It is one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Population of Kazan is more than 1 243 500.
Kazan lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers.
There are 2 official languages in Kazan: Russian and Tatarian. And they have 2 presidents.
Kazan’s subway has 10 stations.
There is an Aero express from the airport. It takes 30 minutes to get to the center. It costs 40 rubles, in comparison, in Moscow a ticket for aero express costs 500 rubles.
You will see many historical buildings, the beautiful Volga river, taste national sweets and dishes, meet calm people.
In comparison with Moscow this city is calm, the air is fresh, and the prices are lower.
Most interesting places are concentrated in the center of Kazan. Let’s start our trip.
-Bauman street – улица Баумана
-Epiphany Cathedral - Колокольня Богоявленского собора
- Monument Carriage of Catherine II
-The Kazan Kremlin is the heart of Kazan.
-The Kul Sharif Mosque is the great symbol of Kazan and the Republic of Tatarstan.
This Mosque was named after a real man who was a hero for people in Tatarstan
- Preobrazhenskaya Tower
- Söyembikä Tower (Башня Сююмбике )- a leaning tower of the city
-Annunciation cathedral - Благовещенский собор —
-Agricultural Palace «Дворец земледельцев» - Is a massive beautiful building, with a huge bronze tree in the middle, and a large green space around
-Puppet Theatre Ekiyat in Kazan

Vladivostok - Moscow (May 17 - June 2, 2016)
Vladivostok to Moscow. --- Trans-Siberian Railway Trip, May 17 to June 2, 2016
Our journey started from Vladivostok. Yul Brynner who stared in The King and I was born here; His statue is in front of the house he was born.
The second stop was Irkutsk. The city's old quarter reminded me the scenes from the movie Doctor Zhivago with it's traditional wooden houses and the old trams. As an admirer of the Decembrists and their women, we visited Volkonsky and Trubestskoy's houses. One could tell the owners lived rather extravagant life during their time in the houses. White Army Admiral Alexander Kolchak's statue stands in front of Znamensky Monastery, at the spot he was executed. The monastery also has tomb of Grigory Shelekhov, who claimed Alaska for Russia, and that of the Decembrist wife Ekaterina Trubetskaya.
From Irkutsk, we reached to Lake Baikal via Listvyanka; The amazing beauty of this Lake has to be seen to believe!
Moving on from Irkutsk, the train stopped at Novosibirsk for about 50 minutes, just enough time to taxi to the city center to see the dramatic Lenin statue with flowing cloak.
The industrial city Yekaterinburg is famous for the Cathedral on the Blood, which was built at the location the last Tsar and his family were murdered. We took a local train and then walked for about 40 minutes, along a beautiful, primeval forest, to get to Ganina Yama, visiting the site the bodies of the Romanov family were secretly disposed of originally.
Next, we stopped at Kazan. Ivan the Terrible conquered the Tatars' capital in 1552. Russia's icon, the St. Basil's Cathedral of Moscow was built to commemorate the capture of Kazan. Like Yekaterinburg, Kazan is a financially well to do city compared with other places we visited along the route.
Another over night train took us to Nizhny Novgorod, which was the first of the six golden ring cities we visited during the trip: Nizhny Novgorod, Vladmir, Suzdal, Rostov-Velikiy, Sergiev Posad and Yaroslavl. Rostov-Velikiy is my favorite. It has an unparalleled view of the Kremlin from lake Nero. We also witnessed a Sunday church parade and a Mass in Rostov. Suzdal stands out as an unspoiled village town. Nizhny and Yaroslavl are actually very large cities, their top attractions are the peaceful and scenic river sides. Vladmire and Sergiev Posad both have some most photogenic scenes.
We saved Moscow for the last. Indeed, Moscow proves to be worthy of the capital of Russia! There are simply too many fascinating things to see! The metro is handy, on top of the fact itself is a bona-fide museum.
We visited many Orthodox churches during the trip. Many have magnificent interior. The choral music were serene, peaceful and simply amazing!
The monuments in the country are many. Don't miss Victory park, and all-Russia exhibition center, both of Moscow. The monuments in these two locations are just awe inspiring!
We took the west bound trains for the journey. The east bound direction is more popular with leisure travelers. We had to change trains in each location mentioned above except Novosibirsk. Long distance tickets were either purchased ahead of time ( or at the time of travel in the station. Mid to late May is the shoulder season, it's relatively easy to get train tickets. Local train tickets were easily bought on site.
Train station in big cities usually has resting room with single/double/dorm types and clean linen, charged by the hour. We stayed in such a resting room in Irkutsk as we got there in the early morning. The room was clean, quite and rather spacious.
In May of 2009, I visited Saint Petersburg. Please see the video for the visit:

The Museum Home of Vladimir Lenin in Ulyanovsk (with English Subtitles)
Guided video tour of the house of Vladimir Lenin in Russia.
Founded as Simbirsk on the banks of the river Sviyaga, a tributary of the Volga, in 1648 as the fort which meant to protect the eastern frontier of the Russian Empire from the nomadic tribes and to establish a permanent Imperial presence in the area, the city was renamed Ulyanovsk in 1924 in honor of Vladimir Ulyanov, better known as Lenin, who was born in Simbirsk in 1870.
Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, the Russian politician, Communist revolutionary and political theorist. Lenin was born into a wealthy well educated middle-class family. His father was the Director of Public Schools in Simbirsk district (which nowadays can be associated with a position of a Secretary of Education) overseeing the foundation of over 450 schools as a part of the government's plans for modernisation. Lenin's mother had relatively prosperous background and was the daughter of a German–Swedish woman and a Russian Jewish physician who served the royal family.

SUMMARY
=======
Kazan (; Russian: Каза́нь, IPA: [kɐˈzanʲ]; Tatar: Казан) is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. With a population of 1,243,500, it is the sixth most populous city in Russia.
Kazan lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers in European Russia, about 715 kilometres (444 mi) east from Moscow. In the Late Middle Ages, Kazan was an important trade and political center within the Golden Horde. In 1438, the city became the capital of the Khanate of Kazan. In 1552, Kazan was captured by Ivan the Terrible and became part of Russia. The city was largely destroyed during Pugachev's Rebellion, but was later rebuilt during the reign of Catherine the Great. In the following centuries, Kazan grew to become a major industrial, cultural and religious center in Russia.
Kazan is renowned for its vibrant mix of Oriental and Russian cultures. In 2015, 2.1 million tourists visited Kazan, and 1.5 million tourists visited the Kazan Kremlin, a World Heritage Site. In April 2009, the Russian Patent Office granted Kazan the right to brand itself as the Third Capital of Russia. In 2009 it was chosen as the sports capital of Russia and it still is referred to as such.
Moscow - St. Petersburg 24 Hour Roundtrip, City Highlight Tour in 4K
Skip to 03:22 to enjoy a relaxing 4K Tour / Montage of Saint Petersburg's most famous sights and attractions! It's every bit like exploring the city on your own, but faster!
What was supposed to be a quick work trip to St.Petersburg grew into a rather challenging video idea - is it possible to see all the sights of Saint Petersburg on foot in the span of a day? What if the day starts in Moscow? And what if you need to get back home before 24 hours tick by? The short answer to all these questions is yes... If you get a bit creative.
I invite you to follow along as I take on the Northern Capital, as it's often called in Russia. The trip, by car, would take eight hours. By train- a little over ten. A quick flight turns into a five hour ordeal given airport security and traffic.
Thankfully, the Sapsan Bullet train gave me just the head start I needed to speedrun Saint Petersburg. When everything was said and done, I was back at home exactly 22 hours after I started, having traveled 1400 km by train and 32km by foot. I won't go into how many cups of coffee it took to fuel this random act of tourism.
I managed to capture all the most famous sights Saint Petersburg has to offer, but didn't venture inside any of them, with the exception of St. Isaacs Cathedral and its Observation Deck. The route I chose turned into a pretty good Meet the City kind of tour. Some of the footage I captured is really breathtaking, and I certainly hope you enjoy watching the sights of St. Pete as much as I enjoyed filming them. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch!
If you happen to be in Saint Petersburg for just a day, don't fret - you have all the time you need to see... Everything! If you have questions about the city or how to get around it, let me know.
Also, if you're interested in reading about any of the landmarks and historical buildings you'll see in the montage, here is a list of the most prominent ones, mostly in the order that they appear:

St Petersburg Russia Spilled Blood Church
After our 2 hour whirlwind visit, we had time for one more stop before the end of our day in St Petersburg, and that would be the Church of the Savior on Blood, or Spilled Blood Church. The Church was build on the site where Emperor Alexander II was fatally wounded in March 1881.
The church is prominently situated along the Griboedov Canal, with paved roads running along both sides. On March 13, 1881, as Tsar Alexander's carriage passed along the embankment, a grenade thrown by an anarchist conspirator exploded. The Tsar, shaken but unhurt, got out of the carriage and a second conspirator took the chance to throw another bomb, killing himself (aka like a suicide bomber) and mortally wounding the Tsar. The Tsar, bleeding heavily, was taken back to the Winter Palace where he died a few hours later.

Saint Petersburg (Russian: Санкт-Петербу́рг, tr. Sankt-Peterburg, IPA: [ˈsankt pʲɪtʲɪrˈburk] (listen)) is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, with 5 million inhabitants in 2012, part of the Saint Petersburg agglomeration with a population of 6.2 million (2015). An important Russian port on the Baltic Sea, it has a status of a federal subject (a federal city).
Situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, it was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on 27 May [O.S. 16 May] 1703. On 1 September 1914, the name was changed from Saint Petersburg to Petrograd (Russian: Петрогра́д, IPA: [pʲɪtrɐˈgrat]), on 26 January 1924 to Leningrad (Russian: Ленингра́д, IPA: [lʲɪnʲɪnˈgrat]), and on 1 October 1991 back to Saint Petersburg.
