The bombing of Wieluń. Beginning of World War II. 80th Anniversary 1939-2019

Film illustrating the depth of destruction in Wieluń after the bombing of the town by the German Luftwaffe in the first moments of World War II #WieluńWeRemember
Fragment of the book Wieluń hekatomba. The beginning of a total war by prof. Tadeusz Olejnik:
There were no Polish troops in the town, nor was it, because of its closeness to the Polish-German border, a support base for the Polish Army or any kind of a bulwark in the defence system of Polish borderline. The plans of the Polish command specified that the defence was to be organised at the Warta and the Widawka rivers, so nearly 30 km east of Wieluń. Therefore, it can be stated that there were no military reasons for the raid on the defenceless town.
The first bomb raid took place at about 4:40. According to the eyewitnesses, the first to be attacked were the following: the hospital, the synagogue, the students’ residence hall at H. Sienkiewicza Street, the parish church, the Starosty Office building and the houses within the area of the Old Market (Legionów Square) and at the streets Palestrancka, Okólna, Barycz and Reformacka. The bombs also fell near the church and convent of the Bernardine Sisters and the evangelical church, but failed to destroy the buildings.
The shock was absolute. People, overwhelmed by panic, and many of them still wearing their nightwear, ran into the streets in great numbers. One could hear shrieks of terror and wounded people calling for help. Meanwhile, the fighter planes, not having to shield the bombers’ attacks from the Polish planes as there were not any in Wieluń area, were hedgehopping over the town and shooting the running men, women and children. The terror was augmented by the sound of Udet sirens, so called ‘Jericho trumpets’ fitted in the planes. All the eyewitnesses confirm that it was the time when hell began. Whoever was alive was running away from that hell, out of the town,
in an attempt to save their life.
After the first unexpected raid the planes returned over the town and dropped bombs again and again. The whole town centre was in ruins and under the debris of the destroyed houses there were hundreds of killed and wounded people. During one of the first raids the planes dropped 29 half-tonne demolition bombs and 112 50-kilogram tactical bombs. In the logbook of one of the squadrons it was noted: No enemy has been found (keine besondere Feind beobachtung).
In several bomb raids on the town, during which Wieluń was hit with demolition bombs of enormous explosive power (500 kg), the oldest historic part of the town was almost completely burnt or turned into a huge pile of rubble. The greatest destruction occurred in the Old and New Market and the following streets: H. Sienkiewicza, Śląska, G. Narutowicza, Augustianska, Palestrancka, Różana, Okólna, and Barycz, and, to a lesser degree, Królewska, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Reformacka, Rudzka (now 18 Stycznia) and Targowa. The buildings at the streets leading to and out of town, namely, Częstochowska, Sieradzka, Joanny Żubrowej, 3 Maja, Turowska and POW, suffered the relatively smallest destruction.
As a result of several air raids about 75% of the buildings were in ruins; besides, the historic town centre suffered the greatest destruction.
Eyewitnesses call the bombing of the town a horror. Those who managed to save their lives watched the raids as passive witnesses hidden in potato fields on the outskirts of the town. In front of their eyes Wieluń was being laid waste, the monuments of Polish culture were being destroyed, and helpless civilians massacred.
A fact which is particularly tragic is the dropping of the first World War II German Air Force bombs on All Saints Hospital, despite it being marked by the Red Cross emblems. Several dozen patients and the hospital staff were the first civilian victims of World War II unleashed by the Nazis. (...)
Basing on quite reliable accounts of Dr Zygmunt Patryn, the feldsher Stanisław Cierkosz and pastor Henryk Wendt it is estimated that nearly 1200 town inhabitants – Catholics, Jews and Protestants – lost their lives in the air raids.
In relation to the pre-war number of town inhabitants it was a very high percentage, as it made 8% of the population. Not many Polish cities suffered such a great population loss.

REJESTRACJA:
Monument to the Little Insurgent in Warsaw, Polish People' s Republic 1983
Warszawskie dzieci, pójdziemy w bój - za każdy kamień twój, stolico damy krew
Varsovian children, we'll head into battle - for every stone of yours, we shall give our blood
Despite the anticommunist Propaganda (it was not allowed to say the words Home Army, the soviets wanted the destruction of Warsaw, Stalin didn´t help Warsaw, and other lies) the History is here to teach us the truth.
The monument was designed by Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz in 1946 , when he studied sculpture at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts , while working as a volunteer in the clearing of the city . The sculpture itself was created in the studio of the Capital Reconstruction Office . Jarnuszkiewicz received for his work, bearing the title Child-hero , a distinction in the competition for a sculpture commemorating the uprising organized by the Association of Polish Artists .
For many years, the Mały Powstaniec was known mainly for its numerous miniature copies, reminiscent of the days of the insurgent struggle in many families. They were distributed by the studio of Władysław Miecznik as the work of Jan Małeta . In 1979, the Warsaw court settled a dispute over the authorship of the sculpture, sometimes referred to as the Antique Spray , in favor of Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz [1] .
The initiative of erecting the monument of the youngest participants of the Warsaw Uprising was made by scouts from Chorągwi Stołeczna ZHP im. Bohaterów Warszawy as part of the celebration of the 15th anniversary of granting the banner of the name. Jerzy Jarnuszkiewicz donated his project to scouts and prepared free documentation needed to make a cast at Zakłady Mechaniczne im. Marcela Nowotki in Warsaw. Money to cover the costs of work associated with setting and casting the monument (about 1 million zlotys ) were collected by the scouts.
The unveiling of the monument on October 1, 1983 took the form of a solemn scouting gathering. The unveiling was made by the scout-Warsaw insurgent Jerzy Świderski in the presence of hundreds of scouts from Warsaw and other Polish cities, as well as representatives of the authorities and residents of the capital. The honor of the youngest soldiers of the Warsaw Uprising [2] took the honor guard in front of the monument .

Tribute to Poland in WWII
In May of 2012 I went to Warsaw with Team USA for the Battle of the Nations, the world championships of medieval armored combat. while I was here I took a lot of photographs. It seems that the Polish experience in WWII is very important in Warsaw. There are monuments all over town and a major portion of the Polish Miliary Museum is dedicated to WWII, and there was a very moving exhibit dedicated to Katyn and other massacres of officers and soldiers of the Polish Army.
I have put together some of the pictures that I took in this montage, which is set too the song Never Say That You Have Reached the Final Road
(Zog nit keynmol az du geyst dem letstn veg), which was inspired by the Warsaw Ghetto uprising of 1943 (not to be confused with the Warsaw Uprising if 1944). For more info on the song go to

Last September I received a phone call informing that my estranged father had passed away. At his funeral in Chicago a family member presented me an old photo album, but she was unsure of who it once belonged to, though they suspected the photos inside were made in Poland. I did some family genealogy research and found out who the owner of the mysterious album was.

Rota (The Oath) - Beautiful Polish patriotic song - english translation.
By the time Maria Konopnicka wrote the poem Rota the mandated language of instruction in schools in the German partition (occupation zone) of Poland had long been German. In fact, by 1887, the study of Polish as a second language bacame forbidden, Polish textbooks having been banned earlier in 1874. Use of Polish was allowed only for religous instruction. In July 1901, however, the German Ministry of Education mandated the use of German in these classes as well. Protests ensued and in in Wrzesnia, a town some 35 miles east of Poznan the refusal ot children in April 1901 to participate in such classes amounted to a strike. On May 20th of that year, in an effort to break the strike, the German authorities decided to administer collective whipping to the children. News of this outrage spread far and wide engendering bitterness and revulsion. One of those who reacted was Maria Konopnicka, a poet, who composed the poem, the text of which the composer Feliks Nowowiejski later used in an anthem, now known as Rota (The Oath). The anthem was first performed by massed choirs from all over Poland at the 1910 unveiling of the Grunwald monument in Krakow. The sentiments expressed in the poem are stark and difficult to convey in a poetic translation. In an effort to provide the English speaking reader some feeling for the poem's starkness, the following translation seeks accuracy at the cost of flow and grace.
We won't abandon the land whence our kin.
We won't let our native tongue be buried,
Polish people we are, Polish folk,
We are of the Royal Piast clan.
We won't let the enemy Germanize us!
So help us God!
So help us God!
To the last drop of blood in our veins
We'll defend our spirit,
Till dissipates into powder and dust
The Teutonic gale.
Every threshold will be a stronghold for us.
So help us God!
So help us God!
We won't let Poland's name be trampled,
We won't alive into a coffin go
In Motherland's name and her glory
We raise our foreheads proudly.
The grandparents' land the grandson will regain.
So help us God!
So help us God!
The German won't spit in our face,
Nor Geremanize our kids!
Our phalanx armed will arise,
The spirit will command us.
We'll go when the golden horn calls.
So help us God!
So help us God!

THE SOVIETS
The Soviets looked to destroy Polish self-rule using deportation of hundreds of thousands of Polish citizens and forcing their system of government upon them. They set out to remove a thousand years of Polish cultural influences. Polish was replaced in official usage. Schools spread Soviet indoctrination and religious education was forbidden. Monuments were destroyed, street names changed, bookshops closed, libraries burned and publishers shutdown. Soviet censorship was strictly enforced. Even the ringing of church bells was banned. In 1940 and the first half of 1941, the Soviets deported more than 1,500,000 Poles, most in four mass deportations. Most of them died of freezing cold, starvation and disease. The first deportation took place February 10, 1940, with more than 220,000 sent to northern European Russia; the second on April 13-15, 1940, sending 300,000 to 330,000 primarily to Kazakhstan; a third wave in June-July 1940 totaled more than 240,000 perhaps 400,000; the fourth occurred in June, 1941, deporting 200,000. The fourth wave contained a large number of children. Upon resumption of Polish-Soviet diplomatic relations in 1941, it was determined based on Soviet information that more than 760,000 of the deportees had died—a large part of those dead being children, who had comprised about a third of deportees. As well as deporting Polish citizens, Polish men were drafted into the Soviet army. It has been estimated that 210,000 were drafted. Murderous terror, to which the Polish population on the occupied territories was subjected, was meant to make the imposition of the Soviet regime easier. The Katyn Forest Massacre exemplifies the methods employed by the 'progressive' Soviet system and became a symbol of an unprecedented genocide.
THE GERMANS
The fate of Polish citizens under the German occupation was no less horrible. The aim of the Germans was to turn Poles into unskilled laborers. High schools and universities were closed. The treasures of Polish culture were plundered and taken away to Germany. Mass arrests and executions went on unabated throughout the occupation period. Roundups were organized in towns and hostages from among the innocent population were taken. A network of concentration camps in which slave labor force was inhumanely exploited was established. Hundreds of thousands of people were murdered there or died of hunger, disease or exhaustion. On August 22, ten days before the invasion, Hitler outlined his policy on Poland to the Wehrmacht leadership, instructing them to kill without pity or mercy all men, women, and children of Polish descent or language. Hitler said, The destruction of Poland is our primary task. The aim is not the arrival at a certain line but the annihilation of living forces Be merciless! Be brutal! It is necessary to proceed with maximum severity. The war is to be a war of annihilation. So began a horrifying nightmare for Poles and Poland, as the German war machine swarmed in on several fronts. Civilian targets were attacked with the same ferocity as military objectives. Peasants working in the field were viciously strafed by the Luftwaffe, hospitals and sanitariums were incinerated, and highway traffic was shot at to create confusion and terror as Nazi Germany waged a war not just to conquer Poland but to destroy it as a nation. The Germans declared their intention of eliminating the Polish race (a task to be completed by 1975) alongside the Jews. This process of elimination, the Holocaust, was carried out systematically. All members of the intelligentsia were hunted down in order to destroy Polish culture and leadership (many were originally exterminated at Oswięcim - better known by its German name, Auschwitz). The Poles, announced Hans Frank, the Governor of the Generalgouvernement, do not need universities or secondary schools; the Polish lands are to be changed into an intellectual desert. Secret universities and schools, a Cultural Underground, were formed (the penalty for belonging to one was death). In the General-Gouvernement there were about 100,000 secondary school pupils and over 10,000 university students involved in secret education.

[original] FROM BABYLON TO AMERICA: THE PROPHECY MOVIE
The mark of the beast. The little horn. The antichrist. The beasts of prophecy written about by Daniel in his book and John of the book of Revelation. These were some of the things that interested me as a skeptical young man growing up in Chicago while contemplating atheism or Christianity.
I cannot physically see Him nor can I audibly hear Him. If God was real, how would I know? God, Himself, says in Isaiah 42:9, Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them. In the gospel of John, Jesus talks about coming prophetic events and says in John 13:19, Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.
Prophecy is one of many powerful proofs of God's existence. In this movie, we will take a biblical and historical journey through pin-point accurate prophecy that all atheists cannot possibly deny. We will journey through major prophetic events that take place from Babylon of old to America of the new world.
