The Monument to Russian Emperor (Tsar) Nikolai II Romanov - Belgrade, Serbia
Tsar Nicholas II or Nikolai II (Russian: Николай II Алекса́ндрович, tr. Nikolai II Aleksandrovich; 18 May 1868 – 17 July 1918) was the last Emperor of Russia, ruling from 1 November 1894 until his forced abdication on 15 March 1917.
Following the February Revolution of 1917, Nicholas abdicated on behalf of himself and his son, and he and his family were imprisoned. In the spring of 1918, Nicholas was handed over to the local Ural Soviet; with the approval of Lenin, Nicholas and his family were eventually murdered by the Bolsheviks on the night of 16–17 July 1918. The recovered remains of the Imperial Family were finally re-interred in St. Petersburg in 1998.
In 1981, Nicholas, his wife and their children were canonized as martyrs by the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia, located in New York City. On 15 August 2000 Nicholas and his family were canonized as passion bearers, a title commemorating believers who face death in a Christ-like manner, by the Russian Orthodox Church within Russia.

Russian ambassador Aleksandr Botsan-Kharchenko attended the opening ceremony of a monument of Tsar Nicholas II on Saturday in Banja Luka.
The bust was created by Georgian-Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli, president of the Russian Academy of Arts, who has previously created sculptures of the entire Tsar Nicholas II family.
As Tsar Nicholas II is known as 'Saint Nicholas the Passion-Bearer' by the Orthodox Church, Banja Luka's Cathedral of Christ the Savior held a common liturgy as part of the monument ceremony, before the sculpture was unveiled, conducted by both the Serbian and Russian Orthodox ministries.

RUSSIA: MONUMENT ERECTED BY THE DESCENDANTS OF THE WHITE GUARD
Russian/Nat
It may have been the 80th anniversary of the Russian Revolution, but the families of those who fought the Communist Reds held their own remembrance ceremony.
Descendants of the White Guard - the Tsar's military fighting force - on Saturday erected a monument in Moscow to remember those who lost their lives fighting Communism.
In Russia they're called the Whites -- those who fought to save the monarchy against a Communist takeover.
It was a bloody battle in which millions died on both sides and the Communists emerged victorious to usher in 80 years of Red rule.
But now Russia has moved towards democracy, those who fought the Communists are eager for their place in history to be recognised.
To accomplish that, these men -- most of them descendants of soldiers who fought in the Tsar's White Guard -- have erected a new monument to honour their fallen forefathers.
When the 1917 Revolution began, it became apparent that the Tsar's professional army were up against a massive nationwide force determined, at any price, to win victory.
For more than four years the Whites defended the monarchy, but in 1922 they buckled under the communist force.
Now Russia's monarchist movement is undergoing a revival, and the White Guards' Club is part of that.
SOUNDBITE: (Russian)
Of course we are not calling for the immediate restoration of the monarchy in Russia. We understand clearly that people in Russia are not yet ready for the monarchy, but we see our main task as preparing the people for the return of the monarchy.
SUPER CAPTION: Vladimir Petukhov, Leader of the White Guards Club
The Club is determined that those who died fighting to preserve the monarchy should not be forgotten.
The monument is located in downtown Moscow at the All Saints Church, and it is the first ever Russian monument to be dedicated to anti-Communist forces.
It is shaped like a cross, and is being erected on what was once the grave site of hundreds of White Guard soldiers who died fighting the Bolsheviks in Moscow.
The grave site was destroyed under Communist rule, and the tombstones were purged to remake the graveyard into a communist park.
Now, with the help of the Orthodox church, the site is being restored to its former glory.

Monument to Tsar Nikolay in Belgrade, Serbia
RUSSIA: STATUE OF TSAR NICHOLAS II UNVEILED
Russian/Nat
The unveiling of a monument to Russia's last Tsar, Nicholas II, has attracted a motley crew of nationalists, monarchists and fascist supporters.
A plaster model of the statue was blown up last November and a similar monument by the same sculptor suffered the same fate in April 1997.
But this time the unveiling was guarded by cossacks and black-shirted members of the neo-fascist Russian National Unity movement.
The statue's creator says the left-wing terrorists accused of the bombings will not have it so easy this time.
Two statues of Russia's last Tsar have been blown up in the past two years.
But supporters of Tsar Nicholas II are undeterred. Many still revere him with religious fervour and want to see him canonised.
Vyacheslav Klykov, attired as a Russian cossack officer, wants to at least make sure there is a lasting monument to Nicholas standing in Russia.
But to do that, he gathered a motley crew of nationalists, monarchists and fascist supporters at Saturday's unveiling for a show of strength against possible detractors.
A Russian Orthodox priest led the ceremony at the Church of St Nicholas the Martyr in Podolsk, a town just outside Moscow.
Once the seven-metre-high bronze statue was revealed, onlookers laid flowers at the foot of the monument, hoping this time Tsar Nicholas would be allowed to stand in peace.
Klykov claims the left-wing terrorists accused of the bombings will not have it so easy this time.
SOUNDBITE; (Russian)
Yes, we have enough resources to guard this monument now with the latest equipment, I would say, and those (cossack) units will be on guard constantly. They won't allow anyone to get near the monument, defile the monument, that's for sure. I'm convinced.
SUPER CAPTION: Vyacheslav Klykov, sculptor
Units of cossack paramilitaries have promised their support in guarding the statue.
Cossacks traditionally guarded the monarch in Tsarist times, and are closely linked with the Russian royal family.
Like Nicholas, who was eventually murdered by Bolshevik revolutionaries in July 1918, the Cossacks suffered at the hands of the communists during Soviet times.
The statue of Nicholas II, murdered by Bolshevik revolutionaries in July 1918, will be watched over by both blackshirts and the cossacks.
Cossack leader, Viktor Plyetnov, explains why he thinks the Tsar is such an important role model.
SOUNDBITE:(Russian)
The Tsar is power itself, order, Orthodox belief. For any Russian person the Tsar is a symbol of freedom and power.
SUPER CAPTION: Viktor Plyetnov, Cossack Ataman
The seven-metre high statue is made of bronze and stands outside Podolsk's Church of Nicholas the Martyr.
Monarchist groups have led a campaign for several years to try to persuade the Russian Orthodox Church to make Nicholas a saint, but so far to no avail.

A Liturgy was held at the burial place of the last Russian Emperor Nicholas II's family in Yekaterinburg on Tuesday.
Up to 40 bishops and 10,000 people, reportedly participated in the liturgy in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the shooting of the Emperor’s family.
The last Russian Emperor Nicholas II, his wife, five of their children and four servants were killed on 17 July, 1918, in Yekaterinburg. In 2000, members of the former Royal family were canonised.
SOT, Patriarch Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia (Russian): “Perhaps the first and most important lesson we must learn from the tragedy that happened a century ago is that no promises of a new, happy life, no hopes for outside help, which can be supposedly provided by more educated and advanced people, should seduce our people. We must remember the tragedy of the past. We must develop immunity to any calls to achieve human happiness through the destruction of what we have.”
SOT, Olga Kulikovskaya-Romanova, Widow of nephew of Nicholas II of Russia (Russia): “It is a part of our contribution to the memory. The main thing is worshipping and the feelings that we pray to them but not for them since we have glorified them, the God has glorified them. We pray to them and feel their constant help.”
