Totoro in Russia | Kremlin of Novgorod
Join Totoro the Traveller visiting Veliky Novgorod, one of the oldest cities of Russia. Look at the impregnable walls of Kremlin and take a peek what’s inside there!
***
Russia is the largest country in the world and it offers so much to see & explore. My Instagram followers know that I am history & architecture fan, and so trip to one of the oldest cities of the country (first mention dates back to 859 year!) sounded like a great idea.
I’m sure you have heard word “Kremlin”, but internationally it is used mostly to identify Moscow and russian government, as that’s where president’s office is located in Moscow. The thing is that this word means citadel, a fortified complex in Russian towns. Veliky Novgorod (Novgorod the Great) has its own kremlin, and that’s where I directed my paws to upon arrival (0:28).
Inside, I felt like I travelled in time: amazing architecture with the jewel - St Sophia Cathedral (dd. 1050) (0:50), towers, bells, all breathing history (especially when excursion passed by with a guide that was dressed in some medieval clothes and spoke very beautifully (1:21)). I was really impressed by monument “Millennium of the Russian Statehood” (1:41): it shows important people and events that made the most impact on Russian history. Spent quite a time watching all the tiny details of this masterpiece. I’ve recognized Peter the Great (2:00), remember the one who created St Petersburg and its amazing suburb Peterhof? If you don't check here:
Out of the Kremlin, I visited impressive Victory monument dedicated to victory of the Soviet Union over the fascist invaders (2:28) and had a look at Yaroslav's Courtyard (0:07), former market place that dates back to 12 century.
I was surprised to learn that Novgorod was one of the Hansa League cities back in time (as well as Stockholm, Tallinn, Bremen, Gdansk, Cologne, Bruges, London, Bergen and others), beautiful fountain was opened in 2009. Loved the design with mosaic emblems (0:09).
I wish I could spend more time in this city and fly the heart balloon (2:18) or take a river cruise (0:22).
Visit to cities like Novgorod is a throwback to old times, unique experience I’d wish everyone to have!

The Model is made in a Saint-Simon's Garage workshop.

Carving STL-model by Shein S.
Astrakhan, 2014.
Historical information:
Pleasure yacht was constructed in 1722 by the Kazan Admiralty for imperial needs in Astrakhan and for use in the Persian trip at the Caspian Sea.
On July 18, 1722 Peter the Great on Plaisir yacht passed in review of the ships of newly created Caspian flotilla headed by the flotilla's general admiral count Apraksin M. F.
On indirect limitation the yacht took part in Peter's Persian trip and was called Experanec (Hope). 1724 the yacht was turned in for storage to the military port. 1824 it was restored.
Later in 1871 it was constructed the Petrovsky museum house for Plaisir yacht and wherry on the Admiralty (nowadays Volga) backwater at anniversary celebration of the 200 birth of Peter the Great.
1896 it was decided to send Plaisir yacht to the All-Russian industrial exhibition to Nizhny Novgorod where it was exposed in Navigation and Shipbuilding History pavilion.
1927 the Astrakhan City Council has decided to demolish the Petrovsky museum house because of decay. It wanted to place the Plaisir yacht in the District (Local history) museum, but it didn't pass in a door.
The destiny of an exhibit is unknown after 1927. It is possible the yacht strongly decayed in the museum yard in the open air and was utilized.
During the reconstruction of the Astrakhan Local History Museum in 2012, the local masters restored the stern part and carved decoration of a side according to photos. Now it is exhibited at the section of the Petrovsky period of the museum.

Heremitage Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Heremitage in Russia.
The Russian flag still waves proudly above the roof of the Heremitage in St. Petersburg, the former Winter Palace of the tsars. However, despite the meaning of its French name it is no longer a place of seclusion. Designed by Rastrelli and built between 1754 and 1762, today the Eremitage is the centre of an art museum that consists of several buildings. The impressive Peter Hall is dedicated to the legendary founder of the Russian Empire, Peter The Great. Indeed, it is a remarkable work of art in its own right and both the Parade Stairs and Jordan Stairs are fine examples of the Winter Palace’s dramatic architecture. The purchase of more than two hundred paintings from Berlin formed the basis of the Russian aristocracy’s passion for art and served as the catalyst for the subsequent museum. Works by the most famous Italian artists, including Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Raffael, have their own splendid exhibition rooms within the Eremitage. In addition to its remarkable works of art, the museum also contains a large number of archaeological discoveries and artistic treasures from entire cultural epochs. The Eremitage is an art museum of the superlative. It contains a total of 2.7 million exhibits many of which are the finest examples of their kind. The Eremitage, the former Winter Palace of the Russian tsars and today the greatest museum in Russia, is a veritable palace of outstanding art and history.

10 Best Places to Visit in Russia.
Russia, once the largest and most powerful member of the former USSR, nonetheless remains a fascinating country to visit. It is a country of contrasts, from great subtropical beaches to bitterly cold winter regions in the north. The east may have fewer people, but its lovely cities are among the most popular places to visit in Russia and can hold their own against the west. Russia is steeped in history everywhere a traveler goes, from vicious battles to great classical music and literature. And almost everywhere visitors can see examples of magnificent art, not only in museums but also in its churches.

Russia - St Petersburg in need of renovation
T/I 10:26:06
Russia's second city, St Petersburg, is hoping for a huge cash
handout to restore its architectural beauty when President Boris
Yeltsin visits on Friday (6/6).
The startling facades of St Petersburg, the capital of Russia
until the revolution in 1917, are in need of urgent care and
restoration, but many in the city feel it has been neglected
compared to Moscow.

Kazan Travel Guide - A Russian Fantastic Experience
Kazan Travel Guide - A Russian Fantastic Experience
Kazan is the capital of Russia's republic of Tatarstan and the center of the world Tatar culture. With a population of about 1.3 million, a rich history, deep culture and strong economic influence, thus taking the title from Nizhny Novgorod. By many measures, Kazan has one of the highest standards of living in Russia, following after Moscow and St. Petersburg.
Kazan has long been a focal point of higher education in Russia. It remains a university city, with some of Russia's top universities including Kazan Federal University (KFU - formerly Kazan State University, TGGPU and the Kazan Finance Institute), Kazan State Technological University (KGTU), Kazan State Technical University (KAI), and KazanState Power Engineering University. Many foreign students study in Kazan, adding diversity to the city's tolerant.
Kazan peacefully blends Muslim and Christian cultures. There are also many other religions represented in Kazan. For example, in the city center there are synagogue and new catholic church. This vibrant city with over 1000 years of history is an excellent travel destination, and the number of tourists visiting is rapidly increasing every year.
Much of the city center is walkable, and the main attractions for tourists (the Kremlin and Bauman Street) are only for pedestrian traffic. Public buses are abundant and cheap, but one must have some knowledge of Russian to read the signs or ask where the buses are headed. Bus system maps are apparently hard to come by. Taxis are available and operate mostly an on-call service, rather than plying the streets for fares. They also congregate at a few taxi stands in predictable places such as the train station.
Kazan celebrated its 1000-year anniversary in 2005, for which the city got a major facelift. Visitors today will be able to see many of the reconstructed or newly-constructed sites from the anniversary celebration. Kazan offers a lot of various events you can visit during your stay here - international opera and ballet festival, different types of music festivals, popular singers concerts and many other interesting things to do.Cirque du Soleil regurlary brings its shows to Kazan. And a must-see event in Tatarstan is a national holiday Sabantuy - tatar summer festival, which is celebrated in the beginning of June.
Baumana Street has the largest collection of restaurants, cafes, and bars in the city. They range from acceptable to tourist traps. The city has a citadel (Russian: кремль, tr. kreml', or sometimes Tatar: kirman), which was declared a World Heritage Site in 2000. Major monuments in the Kremlin are the five-domed, six-columned Annunciation Cathedral (1561–62) and the mysterious, formerly leaning Söyembikä Tower, named after the last queen of Kazan and regarded as the city's most conspicuous landmark.
Also of interest are the towers and walls, erected in the 16th and 17th centuries but later reconstructed; the Qol-Şarif Mosque, which has been rebuilt inside the citadel; remains of the Saviour Monastery (a 16th-century cathedral demolished by the Bolsheviks) with the Spasskaya Tower; and the Governor's House (1843–53), designed by Konstantin Thon, now the Palace of the President of Tatarstan. Next door, the ornate baroque Sts-Peter-and-Paul's Cathedral on Qawi Nacmi Street and Marcani Mosque on Qayum Nasiri Street date back to the 18th century.

Saint Petersburg, Russia - Line 1 Kirovsko Vyborgskaya Line - Avtovo to Narvskay Stations (2018)
Avtovo (Russian: А́втово) is a station on the Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line of the Saint Petersburg Metro. Designed by architect Yevgenii Levinson (ru), it opened as part of the first Leningrad Metro line on November 15, 1955. In 2014, The Guardian included it on the list of 12 most beautiful metro stations in the world.
Kirovsky Zavod (Russian: Ки́ровский заво́д) is a station of the Saint Petersburg Metro on the Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line. The station opened on 15 November 1955.
Narvskaya (Russian: На́рвская) is a subway station in Saint Petersburg, Russia on the Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line between the stations Baltiyskaya and Kirovsky Zavod. The station opened on November 15, 1955, as part of the first stage of Saint Petersburg Metro from Avtovo to Ploschad Vosstania.
Avtovo's unique and highly ornate design features columns faced with ornamental glass manufactured at the Lomonosov factory.[3] Although the original plan envisaged using glass on all of the columns in the station, white marble was substituted on some due to time constraints. This marble was supposed to be temporary, but it has never been replaced. The walls are faced with white marble and adorned on the north side by a row of ornamental ventilation grilles. At the end of the platform a mosaic by V.A. Voronetskiy and A.K. Sokolov commemorates the Leningrad Blockade (1941-1944) during the Second World War.
Unlike the other stations on the first line, Avtovo is a shallow-level station, constructed using the cut and cover method. It belongs to the shallow column class of underground stations.
Avtovo has as its entrance vestibule a large Neoclassical building with a domed cupola, located on the east side of Prospekt Stachek (ru).
Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line (Russian: Кировско-Вы́боргская ли́ния, the line between the city's Kirovsky District and Vyborgsky District) is the oldest line of the Saint Petersburg Metro, opened in 1955. The original stations are very beautiful and elaborately decorated, especially Avtovo and Narvskaya. The line connects four out of five Saint Petersburg's main railway stations. In 1995, a flooding occurred in a tunnel between Lesnaya and Ploschad Muzhestva stations and, for nine years, the line was separated into two independent segments (the gap was connected by a shuttle bus route). The line is also one of the two lines in the network to feature shallow stations, the other being the Nevsko-Vasileostrovskaya Line.
The line cuts Saint Petersburg centre on a northeast-southwest axis. In the south its alignment follows the shore of the Gulf of Finland. In the north it extends outside the city limits into the Leningrad oblast (it is the only line to stretch beyond the city boundary). The Kirovsko-Vyborgskaya Line generally coloured red on Metro maps.
Saint Petersburg (Russian: Санкт-Петербу́рг, tr. Sankt-Peterburg, IPA: [ˈsankt pʲɪtʲɪrˈburk] (About this sound listen)) is Russia's second-largest city after Moscow, with five million inhabitants in 2012. An important Russian port on the Baltic Sea, it has a status of a federal subject (a federal city).
Situated on the Neva River, at the head of the Gulf of Finland on the Baltic Sea, it was founded by Tsar Peter the Great on May 27 [O.S. 16] 1703. On 1 September 1914, the name was changed from Saint Petersburg to Petrograd (Russian: Петрогра́д, IPA: [pʲɪtrɐˈgrat]), on 26 January 1924 to Leningrad (Russian: Ленингра́д, IPA: [lʲɪnʲɪnˈgrat]), and on 7 September 1991 back to Saint Petersburg. Between 1713 and 1728 and in 1732–1918, Saint Petersburg was the capital of Imperial Russia. In 1918, the central government bodies moved to Moscow.
Saint Petersburg is one of the modern cities of Russia, as well as its cultural capital. The Historic Centre of Saint Petersburg and Related Groups of Monuments constitute a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Saint Petersburg is home to the Hermitage, one of the largest art museums in the world. Many foreign consulates, international corporations, banks and businesses have offices in Saint Petersburg.
Saint Petersburg hosted the games of 2018 FIFA World Cup and UEFA Euro 2020.

Around the lake, there are many people who live with farming. Currently, about 30% of the Russian population is engaged in agriculture. I met Tania, who lives in this farm. It uses a novel method to protect agricultural products from wildlife. Moles are animals that ruin farming. Eat roots of crops and make long holes in the ground. But when the earth vibrates, it scares and runs away. It is a method of using the mobility of the mole, which is sensitive to the vibrations of the earth and avoids hard objects. It is really an eco-friendly method. Pinwheel is also said to be effective in eradicating moles. It is said that the mole does not come near because it constantly transmits vibration to the ground. Pinwheel made of glitter prevents the damage caused by algae. I made a new house on a high place. It is a way for migratory birds to eat insects. The roof was covered with a well to prevent the infestation of wild animals. Cleanliness is important because it is used as drinking water for farming with well water. I met Mr. Violeta who was a retired person for a new life. When I traveled to another place, I always missed my hometown. It is a beautiful and historic place. This is the most beautiful place in our area because it is right next to the lake. Violeta, who came back home from the city life. Fresh eggs, fresh produce, and agricultural products growing every day, they feel the taste of their hometown. Juliana also chose to go with her friends. It is pleasant to taste the fresh fish caught in the lake every day. The most delicious fish is perch. It is very delicious fish without white bones. It is recognized as one of the most delicious fish in the Novgorod region. Finally, a Russian-style rural restaurant was set up. Fresh vegetables and rice. And the fish is a favorite menu of Lake Imeen people. Smile does not leave face every time I taste bite. I want to stay because it is a very beautiful place. I am a beautiful and cozy place. But I do not like the weather. All else is good.

Russia: Schmeichel amazed with Russia's 'not pretty' but 'gritty' triumph
Former Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel talked about Russia's hard-fought win over Spain and praised Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev for helping the host nation to progress to the World Cup quarter-final, when speaking from Nizhniy Novgorod on Sunday.
It was not pretty, but it was gritty, and sometimes football matches are won like that, said Schmeichel about Russia's performance in the showdown with Spain, explaining that it was 'efficient' even though not that 'beautiful.'
He stressed that Russia’s determination to win as they 'never gave up' enabled them to secure the victory.
Schmeichel praised Russian goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev's performance whose stunning penalty shootout let Russia take the lead.
We know he has this reputation as being a good penalty saver, noted the Danish football star.
Schmeichel suggested that Akinfeev 'deserves a statue' in his honour.
