A very beautiful museum with a great variety of exhibits ranging from technology to memorabilia and art. The museum takes you through the history of Russian space exploration, there are archive films shown in the exhibition hall, together with taxidermy models of Belka and Strelka, the 2 dogs who were space captains in 1960! There is also an exhibition of vintage Soviet style posters as well a exhibition of modern art inspired by space, there are countless examples of space equipment, vessels to climb in to and explore, there are 3 really big meteorites. It is very bright and comfortable, there is a cafe with a good selection of drinks and snacks. Information related to exhibits is given in Russian and English, so you can learn a lot about the cosmos and space exploration there. Even if you do not think that you are interested in space travel, but have an interest in Soviet history you will enjoy seeing the memorabilia and posters, and is a tribute to Russian culture and education, I saw lots of groups of children being guided through the exhibition and learning while they were having fun. There is also a wonderful (inexpensive!) little gift shop, that you could visit without going into the museum if you just want to buy some space novelties, and gifts for children, including Space Food! You can take photos and leave your coats in cloakroom, wonderful friendly staff, very welcoming.Well down Moscow!

Russia - Cosmos golden age commemorated
T/I: 11:02:19
Forty years ago, at the height of the Cold War, on October 4th 1957, the Soviet Union won a symbolic victory against its rival, the US - by sending the first satellite into space. The techniques worked out by Sergei Korolyov, the industry's main constructor, were used as the basis for constructing the Mir space station - and against a background of today's problems on Mir, Russians remember the glory of the past with even greater pride.

Norway: Monument to Yuri Gagarin unveiled in Bergen
Chairwoman of the regional coordination council of Russian compatriots in northern Europe, Tatiana Dahle, explained on Thursday why the university of Bergen is now hosting a memorial for the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, after the bust was unveiled on Wednesday.
SOT, Tatiana Dahle, chair of the Regional Council of Russian compatriots in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea (Russian): After his famous flight to space. Gagarin visited many countries including Norway for eight days. During his eventful time in Norway he visited three cities including Bergen, Oslo and Trondheim. He was invited to Bergen by the head of the Institute of Geophysics, the first woman who headed this respectable institution, they (Norwegians) are very proud about it. He visited the university in 1964. The Norwegians remember Gagarin. To be honest, they know about this name and remember it well, but not more than that. They liked the idea of honouring the first space flight too and therefore the memorial was accepted as a present.
SOT, Tatiana Dahle, chair of the Regional Council of Russian compatriots in Northern Europe and the Baltic Sea (Russian): There were no political insinuations. To the contrary, they elevated this question above what is happening right now (political situation) and showed that culture and science is not affected by politics.

Sputnik - the launch in '57 that led to modern space exploration
(3 Oct 2017) LEADIN:
October 4th marks 60 years since one of Russia's greatest achievements - the launch of Sputnik 1 - the world's first manmade satellite.
It shocked America - which had expected to get there first - and paved the way for future space exploration and today's satellite dependent lifestyles.
STORYLINE:
The successful launch of Sputnik on 4th October 1957 marked the dawn of the Space Age.
It was the world's first satellite in space - and at only 58 cm or 22.8 inches in diameter, weighing 83.6 kg it took 98 minutes to orbit Earth and ushered in a space race between the United States and the then USSR.
The launch won global praise and recognition and was a huge source of pride for the USSR, but here at the Moscow Museum of Space, historians inform visitors that Sputnik was actually a last minute effort.
According to Olga Shtoda, a tour guide at the museum, prior to the launch Soviet scientists and engineers lead by Sergei Korolyov had been working on a different satellite - a much bigger and more complicated one. But driven by the fear that the Americans would get there first, Korolyov and his team built a lighter version of the satellite in only 4 months.
In reality Soviet scientists wanted to launch a completely different satellite: it was bigger, cone-shaped and weighed about 1300kg. There was a real scientific laboratory with 12 computers inside. But then we found out that Americans were planning on launching their satellite which was smaller and lighter. We realised that we could lose to the Americans and our scientists quickly created a new satellite: the one that we can see here and the one which everyone knows, she says.
The launch, initially planned for 6th October, took place two days earlier as Korolyov suspected that even then, the Americans might do it earlier.
There was a race and as a result of the race Russians, Soviet people won. And this filled us with so much pride. It happened in the time when we could still feel the consequences of war and lived in poverty, says Yuri Salnikov, a Russian space journalist and director of several films on space exploration.
Soon after blastoff from the arid steppes of the Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan, the satellite sent out what would become the world's most famous beep.
But the tired engineers on the ground didn't immediately grasp its importance.
Yuri Silaev was one of them. The former assembly technician recalled those events in a small circle of colleagues for the last time in August this year, nearly a month before he passed away.
He remembered coming back to a very simple hotel room after the launch where he slept with 6 other colleagues. He turned off the light to finally rest, when suddenly Korolyov burst in.
The machine did its job, we could see that it flew away. All so tired we came back to our rooms, there were six of us in each. We had to roll out lamps in order to make the light shut down, protect ourselves from mosquitoes and just rest. When suddenly Korolev comes in and starts looking for the lamp to turn on the light. And then he shouted: You Russian guys, you have no idea what I have done. Our Sputnik is out and beeping, he recalls.
The success of the Russian launch of Sputnik sent shockwaves around America, which had expected to be the first to have a space mission.
It was the start of a steady stream of craft to the moon.
Geoff Nunn is the curator of the Space History exhibit at the Museum of Flight in Seattle.
The transmitter transmitted a pulse beeping sound that sounded like this, he says.
But while relations between the U.S. and Russia have once again become strained, NASA and the Russian Space Agency Roscosmos are strengthening partnerships.

Колыма - родина нашего страха / Kolyma - Birthplace of Our Fear

Gagarin and Shepard 1.mov
This video is for the History of Spaceflight and Space Technology course at Montana State University.
Yuri Gagarin meeting with BBC Journalist Reg Turnill
Reg Turnill joined the BBC in 1956 with the remit to cover aviation and defence. The launch of Sputnik 1 in the following year expanded his remit to include space. He is particularly well known for his coverage of the American Apollo program. In the UK, his name and face, along with that of Patrick Moore and James Burke, is associated with the commentators who covered live the Apollo Moon landings on the BBC.
In April 1961, Reg was sent to Moscow for Gagarin's first post flight international news conference. It turned out to be a fascinating story of cold war politics as well as leading edge space technology. In his own words Reg describes this as a phony press conference, an entirely choreographed event designed to humiliate the west and he summarised the whole press conference as good humoured evasion. Interacting through an interpreter and restricted to pre submitted written questions, he had to put aside his usual analytical approach. However he recognises that this was a great achievement. This interview was recorded on January 19th 2011 at his home on the south coast of England.

SPACE AFFAIRS - We Turn Your Eyes Skywards! - Teaser Video 2014
SPACE AFFAIRS was born in February 2000, exactly on February 20, 2000. First under the brand name Space Travellers.
We moved from an IT-Company to a Space-Company then and started our program developments.
Mostly what you will find on the web in regards of tours to Star City (Russia), the Baikonur Cosmodrome (Kazakhstan), High-Performance Jet Flights (Russia), L-39 Flights in Germany and in the United States and finally the Zero-G flights in Russia, France and the United States have their program development at our desks.
In 2000 we were the first space brand in Europe, only 2 years before US-based company Space Adventures opened their doors. High performance-jet flights in Russia have their origin in 1994, as a US guy visited Russia and was invited to fly a high-performance fighter jet. He moved to home, stopped his business and opened the US-based company Incredible Adventures.
This is the teaser video for 2014.
In 2020 we are 20 years on the market, and we changed our corporate brand design completely in 2019 and offering only space-related opportunities what can be done by tomorrow. Of course, behind the stage is a lot of involvement in suborbital space flight opportunities, space engineering, consulting and story development for brands and clients.
We are specialised in astronaut training opportunities and mission development for corporate events, marketing and advertisement opportunities to get clients nearby or into space.
