Mountain Bike Ride Along - Moose Brook State Park - New Hampshire
Hola! Welcome to El Snido's Toy Company!
This is the fourth of my rides from my trip this summer to the Northeast. Over a two-week period, I rode in six different states on a variety of terrain. The Northeast's MTB trails are different from the Midwest trails I normally ride. They have a lot of rocks and roots. One review of trails I read suggested that all rock gardens are born in the Northeast and then moved to other places. After my trip I think the writer was onto something. This not only makes the trails difficult, but it means that you really need to pay attention to which direction trails are best ridden. I quickly learned that I would need to research trails before starting and pay particular attention to the elevation profile of each trails. Once I got the hang of it I had a blast. The start of my trip however was humbling to say the least.
Today's video is from my ride at Moose Brook State Park in Gorham, New Hampshire. These trails are absolutely beautiful. The environment felt like the Pacific northwest with thick tree cover and a huge stream. The builders increased the ride quality with lots of wood skinnies and mossy rocks. This was done in the middle of a travel day. I really wish I had more time there. According to some locals I spoke with, After you ride the State park, there are more connecting trails that run in the town's space across the street. Next time I go to the Northeast we will look to spend a whole day riding in this town.
This video is another ride along style of sound. I am using a lavalier mic on this one again. Overall, this type of sound rather than voiceover will hopefully add more realism and let you get a better feel for riding along. I kind of like it because it's more like being there. Let me know in the comments what you think of it (other than the panting) compared to my other videos.
About the Channel:
I've kind of set a bucket list for myself to ride in each of the lower 48 states. Of course, if anyone has free tickets to the other two I wouldn't say no. :-) Part of the reason for this channel is to bring my friends, family and anyone else along for the ride. I can describe where I go but that's nothing compared to seeing it yourself.
Another reason for this channel is that when I started riding about 20 years ago, I had no idea what a trail would be like other than the map at the trailhead. Hopefully some of these videos will be helpful for someone in that position who is traveling to a town I've visited and is interested in riding there. My upcoming videos will include some trails from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and New York. The rest of the year I hope to cover more of the Midwest as well as a potential run through the desert southwest.

NH State Parks in the Summer
What can you do in New Hampshire's 92 state-park properties? The short answer is: all of your favorite outdoor activities on water, land, and sea.The variety of activities within New Hampshire state-park properties—which include beaches, campgrounds, trails, parks, waysides, geological sites, and historic sites—is a factor of the sheer vastness of the state’s total acreage set aside for public enjoyment. New Hampshire is one of only five states in the U.S. with more than 4 percent of state land area forever preserved within state parks.

Four Days in New Hampshire of Family and Friends Hiking, Paddling, Tenting and Moose Sighting.
Grab a cup of coffee or another favorite beverage, kick up your feet, and enjoy how a family bonds through the great outdoors of New Hampshire. My 18-year-old nephew Austin graduated from his southern California (CA) high school. For Austin achieving this educational milestone, my wife, Cathy, and I arranged for him to fly to New Hampshire in July to experience our Live Free or Die outdoors.
The four day trip would entail:
(1) Hike the Tuckerman Ravine Trail from the Appalachian Mountain Club's (AMC) Pinkham Notch hut to the AMC Lake of the Cloud (LOC) hut for a one night stay.
(2) On day 2 hike from LOC hut to the peak of Mt Washington, the highest mountain in the northeast at 6,288 feet and a record windspeed of 231 mph.
(3) Tent for two days at Lake Francis State Park in the Connecticut Lakes area in Pittsburg, NH.
o Hike to and around the 4th Connecticut Lake located on the border of Canada and the United States. The 4th Connecticut Lake is the headwaters of the 410 mile long Connecticut River
o Paddle the Third Connecticut Lake
o Paddle Lake Francis
o Moose sightings on 18 mile Moose Alley

Mt. Washington , N.H.
The White Mountains are a mountain range covering about a quarter of the state of New Hampshire and a small portion of western Maine in the United States. They are part of the northern Appalachian Mountains and the most rugged mountains in New England. The range is heavily visited due to its proximity to Boston and, to a lesser extent, New York City and Montreal.
Most of the area is public land, including the White Mountain National Forest and a number of state parks. Its most famous mountain is 6,288-foot (1,917 m) Mount Washington, which is the highest peak in the Northeastern U.S. and which held the record for fastest surface wind gust (231 miles per hour (372 km/h), over 100 m/s, in 1934) in the world for 76 years. Mount Washington is part of a line of summits, the Presidential Range, that are named after U.S. presidents and other prominent Americans.
The White Mountains also include the Franconia Range, Sandwich Range, Carter-Moriah Range and Kinsman Range in New Hampshire, and the Mahoosuc Range straddling the border between it and Maine. In all, there are 48 peaks within New Hampshire as well as one (Old Speck Mountain) in Maine over 4,000 feet (1,200 m), known as the Four-thousand footers.
The Whites are known for a system of alpine huts for hikers operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club. The Appalachian Trail crosses the area from southwest to northeast.
It is not clear where the name White Mountains came from. There is no record of what Native Americans called the range, although pre-Colonial names for many individual peaks are known.[1] The name and similar ones such as White Hills or Wine Hills are found in literature from Colonial times. According to tradition, the mountains were first sighted from shipboard off the coast near the Piscataqua estuary. The highest peaks would often be snow-capped, appearing white. An alternate theory is that the mica-laden granite of the summits looked white to observers.

Hiking to the top of Mt little haystack, Mt Lincoln, Mt Lafayette in NH
Little Haystack Mountain is a mountain located in Grafton County, New Hampshire. The mountain is a peak on the Franconia Range of the White Mountains. Little Haystack is flanked to the north by Mount Lincoln and to the southwest by Mount Liberty.
The Appalachian Trail, a 2,170-mile (3,490 km) National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, traverses Franconia Ridge, including Little Haystack.
Although well over 4,000 feet (1,200 m) in height, the Appalachian Mountain Club doesn't consider Little Haystack a four-thousand footer because it stands less than 200 ft (61 m) above the col on the ridge from Lincoln.
Mount Lincoln is a 5,089-foot-high mountain within the Franconia Range of the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Lincoln is located between Little Haystack and Mount Lafayette. All three overlook Franconia Notch. The west side of Lincoln drains into the main stem of the Pemigewasset River. The east side drains into Lincoln Brook, thence into the Franconia Branch of the Pemigewasset.
The Appalachian Trail, a 2,170-mile (3,500-km) National Scenic Trail from Georgia to Maine, traverses Franconia Ridge, including Lincoln.
Mount Lafayette is a 5,249-foot (1,600 m)[1] mountain at the northern end of the Franconia Range in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, United States. It is located in the town of Franconia in Grafton County. It is on the New England Fifty Finest list of the most topographically prominent peaks in New England. The upper portion of the mountain is located in the alpine zone, an area where only small vegetation exists due to the harsh climate.
