Belfast is a city in Waldo County, Maine, in the United States. Located at the mouth of the Passagassawakeag River on Penobscot Bay, Belfast is the county seat of Waldo County. The seaport has a wealth of antique architecture in several historic districts, and remains popular with tourists.

Great White (presumably) in the Gulf of Maine
Seen while underway in the Gulf of Maine northbound for Penobscot Bay with a loaded tank barge in tow. While cleaning in the upper wheelhouse the sound powered phone rang. The captain exclaimed that there was a shark off the starboard bow! I had just enough time to pull my phone out and lean awkwardly out the window watching and filming as best I could. This was shot from almost an 60 foot height-of-eye so this beast really was very large. Only a week earlier in the same morning watch the captain and I spotted a shark, perhaps the same one, only 16 miles south on the south side of Platts Bank where Tuna boats have been very busy. This is only the second time in life that I have seen a shark this size and and the first was only a week earlier near the same vicinity. Approximate position of sighting: 43° 22.62'N, 069° 33.87'W. @0900 Friday 15 August 2014. SOG: 8.7 knots Course: 021°T
