Listening is a more natural way of learning, when compared to reading. Written language only began at around 3200 BC, but spoken language has existed long ago.
Learning by listening is a great way to:
- increases imagination and understanding
- improves your listening skills
- improves your own spoken accent
- learn while on the move
- reduce eye strain
Now learn the vast amount of general knowledge available on Wikipedia through audio (audio article). You could even learn subconsciously by playing the audio while you are sleeping! If you are planning to listen a lot, you could try using a bone conduction headphone, or a standard speaker instead of an earphone.

Horne Creek Farm
Nestled in the hills of Surry County, is the farm where Thomas and Charlotte Hauser raised their twelve children, eleven boys and one girl. By the turn of the century, through good farming and hard work, the Hauser had increased their farm to 450 acres. The farm would stay in the family for four generations of Hausers until 1960 when it was leased to local farmers. In 1970 the state purchased it as part of Pilot Mountain State Park. In 1984 the state decided that it wanted to preserve an example of the way many people farmed the lands at the turn of the century. The Hauser farm was one of the best examples of an early farm and had not truly been developed by the park. It was turned over to the Division of Archives and determined it would be used to create a living museum to depict the life of the farmer. In October of 1987 the state opened it to the public as the Horne Creek Living Historical Farm, an outdoor museum and research center dedicated to the study, preservation, and interpretation of North Carolina's agricultural and rural heritage, circa 1900-1910.

Piedmont Triad Regional Plan for Sustainable Development, North Carolina
With funding through the Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program, the Piedmont Authority for Regional Transportation will develop a plan for sustainable development in North Carolina's Piedmont Triad region that helps it move from its agricultural and manufacturing history to a strong position in the new, knowledge-based economy. The integrated regional plan will encourage investment in and near urban areas and towns to reduce sprawl, investigate expanding access to non-automobile transportation to lower costs, assess the need for, and optimal placement of, affordable housing, and define a structure for taking advantage of existing assets in higher education institutions. The Sustainable Communities Regional Planning Grant Program supports metropolitan and multi-jurisdictional planning efforts that integrate housing, land use, economic and workforce development, transportation, and infrastructure investments.
