Journey to the Priesthood - Mount Angel Seminary 12th Annual Seminary Benefit Dinner
The seminarians at Mount Angel offer heartfelt thanks to more than 800 guests who attended the 12th annual Seminary Benefit Dinner.
Throughout the evening, seminarians shared their journey to the priesthood. Some of those journeys even began in childhood.
This year’s event raised $875,000 for the formation of 147 seminarians. We truly are blessed by God, and profoundly grateful for the loyalty of friends who have joined the Abbey and seminary in this holy mission.
The event, including a reception, dinner and program, was held November 1 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland. Please mark your calendar for next year’s event, on November 6, 2016!

Mt. Angel Benedictine Abbey in Oregon-April 2010
A Benedictine monastery, probably the biggest in the United States. They have at Mt. Angel a very interesting Russian Old Believers museum as well as an excellent library. Giant sequoias grow on Mt. Angel. From the top of the mountain one can see Mt. Hood at the horizon. It was a really nice spring day and what was more impressive was the peace of the place. Flowers and trees all over the place and very fresh air! The bells of the monastery started ringing accentuating somehow the holiness of this blessed place.

Weekday Vespers bells at Mount Angel Abbey
These are the bells for weekday Vespers (Evening Prayer) at Mount Angel Abbey in Marion County, Oregon. The same sequence is used for weekday Lauds (Morning Prayer), while only the smaller of these two bells is rung for Vigils (Office of Readings) and Compline (Night Prayer). Different sequences of bells are used on Sundays.
Saint Benedicts Abbey Mt Angel, Oregon; School for priests and nuns
I didn't see many people here in the morning during my walk. Out of the 10 people I saw, about 7 of them were females. There was singing inside one of the churches.
The trail that leads to the seminary tells a story about Jesus and his carrying of the cross he was to be nailed to. You sort of get the feeling of what it might have been like as your walk up the slightly inclined hill.
