Mount Batur (Gunung Batur) is an active volcano located at the center of two concentric calderas north west of Mount Agung on the island of Bali, Indonesia. The south east side of the larger 10×13 km caldera contains a caldera lake. The inner 7.5-kilometer-wide caldera, which was formed during emplacement of the Bali (or Ubud) ignimbrite, has been dated at about 23,670 and 28,500 years ago.

We left Ubud at 2am drove a couple hours then hiked up Mount Batur for sunrise. Mount Batur is an active Volcano with it's last eruption in 2000. Spectacular sunrise and fun had by all. We opted for our guide to take us off the main crater rim to the site of the year 2000 eruption, this was a much quieter route. Pretty exhausted by the time we got back to Ubud.

I had to leave Elisa and the kids at the hotel so I could hike Mount Batur. I wanted to catch the sunrise from the top of Mt Batur so I had to leave the hotel just after 3am. I also decided to hike around the crater rim. Probably not something you should do with kids.
Mount Batur is an active Volcano. It’s elevation is 1717 meters and the last eruption was in 2000. I would say this hike is the best thing to do In Bali! I had been putting this off on all my previous trips to Bali and am so glad I finally got to do it. So if you’re wondering if you should hike Mount Batur or if you should do the Mount Batur Sunrise Trek. I say do it!

Kintamani Volcano and Mount Batur Sunrise Trekking Bali
Mount Batur is an active volcano in the Kintamani, Bangli regency, Bali, Indonesia. Mount Batur is located just northwest of Mount Agung (the highest mountain on the island) and has a height of approximately 1,717 meters above sea level.
Mount Batur caldera has a length of 13.8 kilometers and a width of 10 km. Caldera of Mount Batur caldera is one of the largest and most beautiful in the world. The height of the caldera between 1267 m - 2152 m, and the highest peak of Mount Batur caldera we know as Mount Abang.
Inside the caldera caldera created two circular with a diameter of about 7 km. Inside the caldera are gorgeous lake with a crescent shape called Lake Batur.
The first and second caldera of Mount Batur thought to have formed as a result of two major eruptions, ie around 29.300 and 20.150 years ago. And experts estimate the height of Mount Batur before the big eruption reached 4.000m.
Volcanic activities of Mount Batur in recorded history began in 1804 and the last eruption occurred in 2000. From 1804 Mount Batur has erupted more than 26 times. The most powerful eruption with volcanic activity within 50 days, the eruption occurred on August 2nd 1926 and ending September 21th 1926.
The eruption of Mount Batur in 1926 it made the hot lava flow and hoard village of Batur and Ulun Danu Batur which was once located at the western foot of Mount Batur.
The new Batur village, rebuilt on the edge of the caldera south of the village of Kintamani. Ulun Danu rebuilt, is still known as the most beautiful temples in Bali.
Mount Batur region famous as the mainstay attractions Bangli regency, Bali, Indonesia. mount Batur hiking is the first choice for local and international travelers.
About cultural tourism, which is near the area of Mount Batur is Trunyan. Trunyan an ancient Balinese village which is famous for its people in terms of uniqueness bury.
For those of you nature lovers visiting Bali, feels incomplete if not try venturing to Mount Batur which offers incredible natural charm. Plus panoramic sunrise is so beautiful, it will make your holiday more meaningful.
For trekking to Mount Batur, the way to the foot of Mount Batur in Kintamani when taken from Kuta, Sanur, Nusa Dua, Denpasar, Legian and vicinity takes approximately two hours and we arrived at the start point of climbing Mount Batur, approximately at 04: 00 early in the morning .
The climb to the summit of Mount Batur taken approximately one and a half hour. Upon arrival you will enjoy views of the peak of the eastern sky red as a sign of the rising of the morning sun. In addition, you will also be presented with a view of Mount Agung and the peak of Mount Rinjani in Lombok, .
On top of the mountain we can also cook eggs or bananas in hot water coming out of the rocks on Mount Batur.

CLIMBING AN ACTIVE VOLCANO: Hiking Mount Batur for sunrise in Bali, Indonesia
To satisfy our craving for adventure and to check-off an item from our travel bucket-list, we decided to wake-up at 2 AM to hike up an active Volcano (Mount Batur) to witness a scenic sunrise. Gunung Batur. The allure of hiking up Mount Batur, an active volcano, had us out of bed at 2 AM to reach the summit - an impressive 5,630 feet. We made it to the top. The physically demanding hike was totally worth it the moment we witnessed an unforgettable sunrise. The views were simply stunning.

Our attention quickly shifted to the cheeky monkeys begging for food, playing and wandering around the area where all of the hikers were clustered.
It is not everyday that you get to climb an active volcano. It was totally worth the long climb up.
Before we made our way back down we spent time enjoying the scenery and taking plenty of photos.
If you're planning on trekking ensure that you wear proper footwear to counter the sharp volcanic rock. There are plenty of loose rocks and shale and we almost slipped a few times.
Overall, we'd recommend the hike for those who are physically fit and adventurous.

Mount Batur Sunrise Trek
After so many great experiences that we already had, we came to experience one that left us lost for words:
Trekking Mount Batur ????
We woke up at 2am to be able to climb it and see the sunrise, it was thoug but we made it and we couldn’t be more proud of ourselves for the achievement.
Our guide told us that the weeks before the people who climbed it weren’t lucky as the sky was very cloudy and the sunrise wasn’t the best so we were prepared for the same scenario, but we were sooooo lucky, the sky was just perfect and we had one of the best sunrises of our lives, the scenery was breathtaking overlooking Mount Agung, the highest point in Bali and Mount Rinjani, one of the most famous volcanos in Indonesia, located in Lombok island. We loved it and highly recommend this trekking ????

YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN BALI!! Mount Batur sunrise trek in Bali has to be one of the best sunrises we have ever seen, the view from the top was incredible and without a doubt the best we saw in Bali. We definitely recommend doing this when you come to Ubud and Bali. Its easily one of top things to do in Bali
