Mount Bromo is an active volcano in the Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park on the island of Java, Indonesia. The view of the volcano sitting inside the 10 km wide Tengger caldera, and Mount Semeru behind, sending smoky clouds up every 20 minutes, is considered one of the most scenic volcano views in the world.
In the video: Sunrise views from the top of the nearby viewpoint on Mount Penanjakan; descending from the Tengger Crater rim and crossing Tengger caldera; views from the crater rim of Mount Bromo.

Mt Bromo, Indonesia: Adventures and Misadventures in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park
After being in Bali (video here: ) I made it over to the big island of Indonesia: Java. My first stop on Java Island was the famous Mt Bromo and Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Led with the idea of pristine volcanoes and impressive natural sights, I have to say that I was a bit disappointed with my Bromo experience. The park isn't cheap to enter and the area is completely strewn with trash and garbage. Even at the mouth of the volcation there was plenty of rubbish. When we headed out to watch sunrise, the area was packed with tourists: hundreds of them. It really is a shame as Java Island, and all of this part of Indonesia has such potential as a tourism destination, but it is just so overrun.
Anyways, I continue on Java Island next episode as I head to Yogyakarta, so stay tuned for that!

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park covers a massive area of 800 square km in the center of East Java. For anyone with an interest in volcanoes, a visit to the park is a must. This is the largest volcanic region in the province. Visit the park and see the plumes of smoke coming from Mt Semeru, an active volcano which rises 3,676 meters above sea level. Experience the remarkable Tengger Caldera, Java's largest, with its 10 km barren desert-like sea of sand. Within the caldera rise the deeply fissured volcanic cones of Batok and Bromo, the latter is still active with a cavernous crater from which smoke blows skyward. Temperatures at the top of Mt #Bromo range about 5-18 degrees Celsius. To the south of the park is a rolling upland plateau dissected by valleys and dotted with several small scenic lakes, extending to the foot of Mt Semeru.

The History:
The elegance and beauty of Mount Bromo is already known to many people. Mount Bromo is an active volcano which is itself located on the border Lumajang, Malang, Pasuruan and Probolinggo. Mountain that has an altitude of 2392 m above sea level is indeed very fascinating for anyone who comes to visit, supported by several tourist attractions in the surrounding mountains makes this a unique tourist attractions and cool. Travel bromo itself many spelled by many as an icon of East Java, is physically the mountain is not a mountain – a mountain in East Java, such as Mount Semeru, Mount Argopuro, mountain Arjuno and mountains – mountains of others, but the charm is wonderful already echoed not only in Indonesia and even to foreign countries.
Mount Bromo included in the National Park Bromo Tengger Semeru (TNBTS) and the name of Mount Bromo itself said to have originated from the word Brahma who is one of the gods according to Hindu religious beliefs. Hindu religion itself is a belief shared by many people around the tourist attractions in East Java. Residents around Mount Bromo widely known by the name of the Tengger tribe is the tribe of racial Java tribe who are descendants of the Majapahit kingdom.

Mount Bromo history never escape legendary story of Joko Seger and Roro Anteng, this story develops down – for generations until now. This legend is a legend supposedly formation of the crater of Mount Bromo, Batok and the sea of sand mountains that surround the Bromo caldera, brief history is as follows.
In antiquity, when the kingdom of Majapahit turmoil because of the many attacks that threatens the kingdom, residents majapahit confusion to find a safe place. middle of the road finally they split into two groups, one to penggunungan around Bromo with group leader is King and Empress.
After decades of population living in areas Bromo began to adjust to the environment, until finally a baby born of a couple King and Queen consort named Roro Anteng. and not far from where the King and Empress stay also was born a baby boy – male descendant of Brahmin named Joko Seger.
Once they grow up, the two children had fallen in love, but in the course of their love story there was a giant who tried to separate the two of them, by applying Roro Anteng by force, but Roro Anteng not willing and reject subtle ways, namely by ask the requirement to make a lake on top of Mount Bromo with only one night. Terms had been received and the process of the lake is almost finished, the Giant was foiled by cunning Roro Anteng. Giant was a rage and threw the coconut shells used to menggalih lake earlier. and reputedly coconut shell was enlarged so as to form a mountain Batok, while the lake was turned into a crater.
That brief legends about the origin of the formation of Mount Bromo is an icon of tourism in East Java.

I then walk along the sea of sand, before climbing up to Bromo's crater, where I look down into the abyss below. I complete my trip by venturing to a gorgeous savannah and special rainbow waterfall.

Bromo Tengger Semeru Ultra Run race is a unique event that aims to challenge your inner spirit and physical state, as well as to provide race participants with magnificent natural beauty and environment of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park in East Java - Indonesia at various altitude level. Running at the high altitude region of Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, you will experience tracks with various sceneries in the background, such as sea of volcanic sand (2.200 masl) with low temperature and strong wind.
You will be running through rural back roads, forest path and prairie with a distant magnificent view of the highest mountain in Java, Mount Semeru (3.676 masl) and the tranquility of Lake Ranu Kumbolo (2.400 masl).

Mount Bromo - A Cinematic Drone Experience of Mount Bromo (East Java, Indonesia)
This short cinematic drone video was taken of Mt. Bromo and the beauty that Bromo-Tengger-Semeru National Park in East Java, Indonesia has to offer. This was one of my favorite parts of my 8 month journey, solely because of the shear solitude i was able to experience. I have been told that it is not very often that people get to experience this in such a busy tourist destination, but by planning when exactly I should be in each location i was able to avoid the crowds and completely take in my surrounding without distraction.
The music for this video was made custom by Beyond Existence and myself tailored to the feelings I experienced while exploring this amazing National Park

Vulkan Bromo Tour auf eigene Faust - Mount Bromo Sunrise Trekking auf Weltreise | VLOG #128
Unsere Vulkan Bromo Tour auf eigene Faust - was ein GEILES ERLEBNIS auf unserer Backpacking Weltreise! Aber nur, bis unsere Drohne abgestürzt ist. Sie ist direkt in die Kraterwand vom Mount Bromo Vulkan gecrasht.
Meine Güte, welch ein Tag voller Emotionen und Gefühle!
Kälte, Hitze, atemberaubende Natur, Angst auf dem Kraterrand, dann der Absturz der Drohne, ein totales Gefühlschaos und und und...
Dieser Tag wird uns lange in Erinnerung bleiben!
Wir wollten dir Tour zum Bromo Vulkan auf eigene Faust unternehmen, da wir absolut keine Lust auf überfüllte Viewpoints mit bis zu 500 Menschen, Gedränge auf dem Vulkan und Co. hatten.
Somit sind wir nicht nach Probolinggo und auch nicht nach Cemoro Lawang gefahren, sondern nach Malang.
Von dort aus hatten wir, siehe letzes Video, eine geniale Zeit u.a. in Batu, beim Paragliden und bei der Übernachtung in Baumhäusern!
Und dann sind wir an einem Tag in 2 Uhr in der Nacht auf den Roller gesprungen und dick angezogen durch klirrende Kälte (5 Grad) zum einem recht geheimen Viewpoint gefahren, um den Bromo Sunrise, also den Sonnenaufgang, mit Sicht auf den Mount Bromo, anzuschauen!
Und ja, wir haben alles richtig gemacht!
Nur 5 weitere Leute waren auf dem geheimen Viewpoint!
Einfach richtig richtig geil!
Auch der weitere Tag war genial, mit Frühstück in Cemoro Lawang und der Besteigung des Bromo, bis...
... die Drohne auf dem Bromo in die Vulkanwand gecrasht ist.
Ja genau, unsere Drohne ist abgestürzt...
Der Tag war so einzigartig und dann sowas!
Aber sieh selbst...
Der Bromo-Tengger-Semeru Nationalpark ist wirklich total schön!
Die Tour zum Bromo, auf eigene Faust, können wir auf jeden Fall zu 100% empfehlen.

Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is a National Park in East Java Province, Indonesia. This National Park is part of the administrative area of Pasuruan Regency, Malang Regency, Lumajang Regency andProbolinggo Regency. This Park was settled since 1982, but it already protected since 1919, with covers a total area of 5,250 hectares at an altitude of about 2,100 m.
Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park is the only conservation area in Indonesia that having sand sea, most people in Indonesia call as Lautan Pasir Tengger. This area is lies acrros the caldera of an ancient volcano mountain of Tengger, from which four new volcanic cones emerged.
In this Park, there is the highest mountain in Java, Semeru Mountain; the famous mount of Bromo and there is four lakes and 50 rivers. Others are also become the interesting to be visited, like; Mount Batok, Mount Kursi, Mount Watangan, Mount Widodaren. The lakes that recognize are, Ranu Pane,Ranu Regulo, Ranu Kumbolo and Ranu Darungan.
For those who like hiking, it is advisable to take the route from Malang, because they can enjoy the magnificent sand sea longer than other route. The Starting point can be start from Ngadas, which is the last village around the National Park. It is also advisable to charge the supplies, especially water, for after passing the Ngadas Village there will not be found some source of water.
Beside the scenery, there are numbers of flora and fauna that attractively can be found in this National Park. The rare and endangered species that live in the Park include civet (Pardofelis marmorata), deer (Cervus timorensis), long-tailed macaques (Macaca fascicularis), deer (Muntiacus muntjak), red jungle fowl (Gallus Gallus), leopard (Panthera pardus), ajag (Cuon alpinus), and various species of birds such as kestrel bird (Accipiter virgatus), hornbills (Buceros rhinoceros silvestris), Crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela Crested), black Srigunting (Dicrurus macrocercus), bold eagle (Haliastur indus), and grouse that live in Ranu Pane, Ranu Regulo, and Ranu Kumbolo.
The area around the Park in inhabited by the indigenous people of Tengger. Tengger people are one of the few Hindu communities in Java Island. The local religion is the remnant from Majapahit era. Therefore, the cultures and the religion is similar to Bali, but it contains even more animist elements.
The people of Tengger are believe that they are the descendets of Majapahit empire and they were driven into the hills after the arrival of Muslim Madurese during the 19th century.
So far, it is already reveal that this National Park is named after the two famous mountains of Bromo and Semeru, also, it inhabited by Tengger people.
