Hiking Mt. Egon (Flores, Indonesia)
Staying in the backpacker-friendly Lena House outside of Maumere, you can easily cruise up to the trail to hike Mt. Egon. This volcano is still very active - in January over 1,000 villagers were forced to evacuate when it started spewing toxic gas and clouds of ash. Thankfully, this wasn't the case on our visit...
Mount Egon Flores
Gunung Egon, or Gunung Namang' as Indonesians sometimes call it, is a Stratovolcano with its peak at 1703 metres. Its last eruption has been in 2008 and forced thousands people to evacuate but luckily none was killed during that. It is still a very active volcano and is on a list for the highest alert levels. Mount Egon is located in the South-Eastern part of the Flores islands and is best reachable from Maumere, making it also a very popular volcano.

Short video clip of our hike up Gunung Egon near Maumere on Flores Island, Indonesia. Gunung Egon is one of the biggest volcanoes in Flores and can be seen from far away. It took us about 2:15h to climb Gunung Egon. The hike was not the easiest one but the panorama view from above is just perfect! Due to very strong winds we were not able to get into the crater itself and had to leave the top quite soon. But nevertheless a marvellous experience, be sure to climb up on Mount Egon if you got some time left and are near Maumere.

Gunung Egon merupakan salah satu gunung api aktif yang ada di indonesia.

Ketinggian gunung egon 1703 meter diatas permukaan laut(MDPL)
Pendakian ke puncak gunung egon membutuhkan waktu -+2 jam dari area parkir.
Hanya butuh waktu 30 menit dari kota maumere,anda sudah bisa sampe di kaki gunung egon.
Anda juga bisa kontak guide lokal untuk mengantar anda sampai di puncak gunung egon bahkan turun ke kawah gunung.
