After 1 week in Kuching I decided to fly to Kota Kinabalu as it is a fair old distance away from Kuching. I visited the beautiful Kinabalu Park, where the famous Mount Kinabalu can be found.

MOUNT KINABALU NATIONAL PARK - Borneo, Sabah, Malaysia
Kinabalu Park, in the State of Sabah on the northern end of the island of Borneo, is dominated by Mount Kinabalu (4,095 m), the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea. It has a very wide range of habitats, from rich tropical lowland and hill rainforest to tropical mountain forest, sub-alpine forest and scrub on the higher elevations. It has been designated as a Centre of Plant Diversity for Southeast Asia and is exceptionally rich in species with examples of flora from the Himalayas, China, Australia, Malaysia, as well as pan-tropical flora.
Mount Kinabalu National Park - City Video Guide
Anyone with an interest in hiking or mountain climbing must embark on a Mount Kinabalu National Park tour. This Malaysian gem is visually stunning, and is also one of the most easily accessible peaks in the world.
Sightseeing in Mount Kinabalu National Park—known as the “Home of the Spirits” to the locals due to the ethereal, ghostlike mist that curls around the summit—will take you through multiple climatic zones. Hike through rainforests, look over a bed of clouds, watch the sunset from a sub-alpine meadow, and gaze over the park from the top of the summit, all in one day at Mount Kinabalu National Park. Moderately fit individuals can climb to the summit and back in two days, staying overnight at a lodge when you reach the top. When you awaken the next day, watch the sunrise from almost 2.5 miles above sea level—it’s a truly spectacular sight.
Those who aren’t keen on hiking up the mountainside can wander through the rainforest closer to ground level, learning about the vast ecosystem that has made Mount Kinabalu National Park such an important UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We took a taxi that took us from Kota Kinabalu to Kinabalu National Park. The park looked really nice with a Mount Kinabalu at the top of the park. Unfortunately we didn´t climb the mount Kinabalu but we still enjoyed a lot of the beautiful nature in Park Kinabalu. We also saw a lot of insect and butterflies in the park. I went to the carson fall with Zuzka. We had to ask some locas to give us a lift to the Kinabalu Park headquaters because Zuzka´s knee was hurting. They happily took us down to the headquaters and then we went back to Kota Kinabalu by the taxi.

Exploring Mount Kinabalu National Park in Malaysia
Kinabalu Park is Malaysia’s first World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO for its ‘outstanding universal values’ and the role as one of the most important biological sites in the world. Located on the west coast of Sabah, Malaysian Borneo, it covers an area of 754 square kilometres surrounding Mount Kinabalu.
KINABALU NATIONAL PARK - SABAH BORNEO
Kinabalu National Park - Sabah Borneo!
Mount Kinabalu is the highest peak in Borneo's Crocker Range and is the highest mountain in the Malay Archipelago as well as the highest mountain in Malaysia.
In today’s video we are talking about Kinabalu National Park. Unfortunately, we have not climbed the highest mount in Sabah, but for sure will come back to this part of Malaysia just to do it!
In the Kinabalu National Park you will find several hiking trails. Each of them has a different length and level of difficulty so I’m sure you will find one for yourself. The entrance fee to the National Park is just 15 MYR a person and it’s valid for one day. Just keep in mind that not all hiking trails are open, when we were there, a significant number of them were closed for public.
To reach Kinabalu NP from Kota Kinabalu by public transportation, you will have to take a minivan. The price is 20 MYR a person without a luggage, or 25 MYR a person with a luggage. There is no timetable for the minivans, they simply depart once they are full.
The accommodation in the close area of Kinabalu National Park is slightly more expensive than in other parts of Borneo. We paid 100 MYR for a double room located approx. 1 km from the entrance.
Since this is our last travel video from Borneo (at least during this trip), I need to say that I can recommend the island to anyone! We have had great time here and will definitely come back in the future to explore the island once again!

Kinabalu National Park or Taman Negara Kinabalu in Malay, established as one of the first national parks of Malaysia in 1964, is Malaysia's first World Heritage Site designated by UNESCO in December 2000 for its outstanding universal values and the role as one of the most important biological sites in the world.
Located on the west coast of Sabah, east Malaysia on the island of Borneo; it covers an area of 754 square kilometers surrounding Mount Kinabalu, which at 4,095.2 metres, is the highest mountain on the island of Borneo.
The park is one of the most popular tourist spot in Sabah as well as in Malaysia. In 2004, more than 415,360 visitors and 43,430 climbers visited the Park.
Kinabalu Park is situated on the Crocker Range on the eastern coast of Sabah. It is located within the district of Ranau, within the West Coast Division. The park is not to be confused with Crocker Range National Park which is a separate park in the south.
The park headquarters is 88 kilometers away from the city of Kota Kinabalu. There are highways and sealed roads leading towards the park headquarters from other parts of Sabah. It is situated on the southern boundary of Kinabalu Park, at an elevation of 1,563m (5,128 feet).
This park is administered by an organization called Sabah Parks. Accommodations in the form of chalets can be found in the park, mostly around the headquarters. Reservations for accommodation and mountain climbing guides are processed through Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. Every person who wishes to climb the mountain must be accompanied by a qualified guide.
The mountain summit trail begins at Timpohon. There is also an alternative route called the Mesilau Trail.
A notable feature of the park is Low's Gully. It is a 1.6 kilometre deep ravine stretching 10 kilometres on the side of the mountain peak.

In August 2018, I decided to climb Mount Kinabalu to see if I can adapt to higher altitude. Kota Kinabalu proves more than just the mountain that's attractive to me. The small town was filled with amazingly friendly people and I really enjoyed my self before and after the climb. The Sutera Sanctuary Lodges was unexpectedly amazing. The accommodation was comfortable for what it is and the food they serves was delicious! This is not a paid feedback.
How much did I pay for the climb. excluding airfare and accommodation outside of the climb?
Package at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges lodges
Accommodation + Meals + 1 bunk bed : SGD 457
Money Needed to exchange:
1. Return transport from airport to Kinabalu National Park : 5+5 + 25 + 25 = RM60 ( SGD 22 )
2. Fees to Kinabalu National Park :

* Park entrance fee @ 15 MYR
* Insurance @ 7 MYR

Gunung Kinabalu/Mount Kinabalu 2017 G5 Borneo [4K]
Mount Kinabalu (Malay: Gunung Kinabalu) is a mountain in Sabah, Malaysia. It is protected as Kinabalu Park, a World Heritage Site. Kinabalu is the highest peak in Borneo's Crocker Range and is the highest mountain in the Malay Archipelago as well as the highest mountain in Malaysia. Mount Kinabalu is also the 20th most prominent mountain in the world by topographic prominence.
In 1997, a re-survey using satellite technology established its summit (known as Low's Peak) height at 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) above sea level, which is some 6 metres (20 ft) less than the previously thought and hitherto published figure of 4,101 metres (13,455 ft).
Mount Kinabalu includes the Kinabalu montane alpine meadows ecoregion in the montane grasslands and shrublands biome. The mountain and its surroundings are among the most important biological sites in the world, with between 5,000 and 6,000 species of plants, 326 species of birds, and more than 100 mammalian species identified. Among this rich collection of wildlife are famous species such as the gigantic Rafflesia plants and orangutans. Mount Kinabalu has been accorded UNESCO World Heritage status.
Low's Peak can be climbed by a person in good physical condition and there is no need for mountaineering equipment at any point on the main route
