Additionally, the mountain is notable for having the highest inn providing lodging for visitors in the Eastern United States.

Mount Leconte offers arguably the best views in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. At 6,594 fasl, Leconte is the 3rd highest peak in the park and the highest mountain completely located in TN. Our overnight hike starts at Newfound Gap on the Appalachian Trail, we then climb up to the summit of Mount Kephart (6217 fasl) and the Jump Off ledge. The route then continues on the Boulevard Trail to the summit of Leconte where we stay at the shelter. Beautiful sunset from the Cliff Tops and sunrise from Myrtle Point. They are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains, and form part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province. The range is sometimes called the Smoky Mountains and the name is commonly shortened to the Smokies. The Great Smokies are best known as the home of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which protects most of the range.
