These videos are of a coastal aerial video imaging (AVI) survey conducted in the Southern Gulf Islands during 2004 from Curlew Island to Winter Cove. The survey was conducted in support of coastal and land-use management initiatives of the Land-Use Coordination Office (LUCO). The entire survey was conducted during extreme low-tides with tidal elevation seldom exceeding 1m above chart datum during the survey. The surveys may have used both helicopter and/or fixed-wing aircraft. The shoreline is imaged with the aircraft (a) to the seaward of the shoreline, (b) at elevations of 75-100m and (c) at an air speed of 100 km/hr. The videographer is in direct communication with the pilot during the survey to optimize imaging of the intertidal zone. Synchronous geomorphological and biological narratives are recorded with the imagery but have been removed from these videos.

On this epic Mountaineers special, Dallas and I take you on a hiking road trip, ferry hoping across British Columbia's Southern Gulf Islands. The 4.5day trek explores the highest mountains of each island, including frisbee golf on each and the scenic islands themselves. Mountains include Mt. Norman of Pender Island, Mt. Parke of Mayne Island, and Mt. Warburton Pike of Saturna Island. Plus for the first time we aren't using public transit, my Geo Metro Goat provides our transport. Hope you enjoy it, had a blast!

Part 2 - Saturna Island resident Priscilla Ewbank talks about the National Park
Priscilla Ewbank has lived on Saturna Island, BC for over 40 years. With her husband Jon she owns the Haggis Farm Bakery and the Saturna General Store and Cafe.
Priscilla is a member of the community advisory committee that liaises with Parks Canada on issues that arise concerning Gulf Islands National Park Reserve. After 11 years and despite her initial caution, Priscilla tells us about how the partnership has grown between her community and the park's management team.

Mt. Maxwell hike on Salt Spring Island
This was our hike of the popular Mt. Maxwell (Baynes Peak) on Salt Spring Island. You can actually drive right up to the lookout at the top but we chose to hike up from the south side near Buscoyne Bay. Beautiful hike and great summit views!

Gulf Islands National Park Reserve is the sixth of eight National Park Reserves in a system of 46 parks and park reserves across Canada. Located in British Columbia's Gulf Islands, it covers 36 square kilometres (14 sq mi) over 15 islands. It also includes numerous islets and reef areas.
