Great Smoky Mountains
The Great Smoky Mountains are a mountain range rising along the Tennessee–North Carolina border in the southeastern United States. They are a subrange of the Appalachian Mountains, and form part of the Blue Ridge Physiographic Province. The range is sometimes called the Smoky Mountains and the name is commonly shortened to the Smokies. The Great Smokies are best known as the home of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which protects most of the range. The park was established in 1934, and, with over 9 million visits per year, it is the most-visited national park in the United States.
The Great Smokies are part of an International Biosphere Reserve. The range is home to an estimated 187,000 acres (76,000 ha) of old growth forest, constituting the largest such stand east of the Mississippi River. The cove hardwood forests in the range's lower elevations are among the most diverse ecosystems in North America, and the Southern Appalachian spruce-fir forest that coats the range's upper elevations is the largest of its kind. The Great Smokies are also home to the densest black bear population in the Eastern United States and the most diverse salamander population outside of the tropics.

A Johnson City Album: Appalachian Outreach Program (1979-1981)
“A Johnson City Album” is one of nine presentations in the Appalachian Outreach Program, developed by the Archives of Appalachia in 1979-1980. The presentation combines the reminiscences of four local people with photographs of Johnson City from its early days through the 1970s. While the speakers relate personal experiences, the four stories join with the photographs to illustrate significant themes in Johnson City's development. These include the influence of changing modes of transportation, the development of educational institutions, changing styles of popular entertainment, industrial and commercial development, and the changing look of Main Street through the years.
Hawg Wild BBQ and Catfish House
Hawg Wild is proud to announce that all of our hawgs, chickens, cattle, and catfish are born and bred in the USA by American farmers. Everything is farm fresh and scratch made, including all 6 of our sauces. Our BBQ is dry rubbed using our own secret recipe and cooked low and slow the way it should be. Ribs, pulled pork and beef brisket, so flavorful, you'll be back tomorrow for more! At Hawg Wild, Catfish is our middle name, and a local favorite. Cooked to perfection by itself or in a po' boy. We have a ton of great sandwiches and salads. Or try one of our homemade casseroles. Wrap up your experience with one of our desserts. Make sure you leave room! Snow crab legs are the star on Thursdays and Prime Rib makes an appearance every Friday! We cater everything, not just BBQ, so have your private party here, or we'll bring the party to you!
