Lake District, 10 Lakes Tour, England
England's Lake District is one of the prettiest parts of the United Kingdom as we'll show you in our driving tour that's going to be visiting most of the lakes of this wonderful area in the northwest of Great Britain, sharing with you some astonishingly pretty views.
We'll also visit some of the small towns that dot this landscape and we will take you on a boat ride from one end of Ullswater to the other, it's the second largest Lake in the Lake District, although it's only 9 miles long, so you'll find that the Lake District is relatively compact in size.
It's about 30 miles wide and about 40 miles from north to south, all included in the National Park that was created in 1951.

William Wordsworth and the Lake District

Owned by the Wordsworth Trust, Dove Cottage is lovely to explore, filled with Wordsworth's possessions. The Wordsworth Museum is also onsite and houses the largest collection of Wordsworth's poetry.

Wordsworth spent nearly 40 years living in this beloved family home, and wrote many of his famous poems here.

The Lake District in northwest England is a very popular holiday destination, famous for lakes, forests, mountains and quaint villages. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2017. We are staying in Bowness-on-Windermere for several days of fun excursions.

Four of the top activities are exploring the towns, taking boat rides, do a little nature walking, and take a driving tour of the region to see the other nearby lakes and quaint villages. Most of our program takes place during a van tour of the lakes that visits 10 different lakes, including Brotherswater, Derwent Water, Grasmere, Ullswater and Windermere. On the van ride we also take a walk in the village of Grasmere, famous for William Wordsworth. You will be amazed by Castlerigg Stone Circle, 4500 years old, one of the area’s historic gems. Then we take a lunch stop in Keswick, whilst exploring the traditional Lakeland market town. We also do a Lake Cruise, enjoying uninterrupted views of the Lakeland fells from Derwent Water.
You can pick from a variety of kinds of excursion boats on Lake Windermere: you can have a one-hour cruise or go for an all-day expedition. You could enjoy a cruise with dinner, there are hydrofoils, rowboats or sailboats for rent -- all kinds of nautical activities exist here on the shores of Lake Windermere.
By the end of the 18th century the region was already becoming popular with visitors and this has steadily grown to the point where today nearly 20 million annual visitors enjoy the beauties of this special place. This huge amount of tourists can be a challenge to deal with in your visit, but you will find the beauties of the natural landscapes make your efforts quite worthwhile. In this show we have useful suggestions to help your planning.
Summer season is obviously most crowded and brings with it the best weather with least chances of rain, so take your chances, but we suggest the shoulder season, like the visit shown here which was during May, a perfect time to visit. We never felt inconvenienced by any crowds. After all, facilities like hotels and restaurants are able to handle the peak crowds of summer, so if you are here in May, with proper reservations at a decent hotel, you will have no problems. Of course the summer is when everybody wants to be here but we find that May is ideal.
You’ll need to spend at least several nights in the area this to really get a chance to see the charming countryside, explore some towns, go shopping, and perhaps enjoy some fine dining. This is actually two towns joined together as one: Windermere is a mile to the north and Bowness-on-Windermere lies along the shores of the lake. Each center has its cluster of shops and restaurants, but the main focus is down at Bowness, which has most of the hotels and that special setting along the water.
The town of Bowness is a good base of operations for heading out to see the other lakes in the district and enjoying some day tours as we will be doing.
Windermere is the largest and the longest lake in the British Isles, about 10 miles long with a 24-mile circumference, and there are several villages along the shores of the lake. We see Lake Windermere the easy way, on a boat ride.
We are travelling in mid-May and ran into some great weather. And actually it’s quite pleasant the temperature here is in the low 70s there is a slight breeze on the lake but not terribly windy. a most pleasant day.
The temperature is pleasant enough that it’s comfortable to sit outside, After all you want the view -- that’s why we’re enjoying this boat ride, to have a look at this charming rolling countryside along the shores of the lake of Windermere.
Some of us decided to get off the boat at Ambleside which is one of the main small towns here in the Lake Country. There's a level nature trail from the boat dock to Ambleside town passing first through an open meadow with some Roman ruins visible, and then along beautiful stream. We also get to see the sheep frolicking around. The walk only took about the walk only took about 30 minutes.
We came upon foundations of ancient Roman buildings. From such forts the Romans could control hundreds of square miles. the army was staffed in part by Roman soldiers and mercenaries, some of them from Yugoslavia. Roman rule began in Britain back in A.D. 43. A massive army of 40,000 soldiers quickly conquered most of the island and Romans remained in control for the next 300 years.
When the path follows along the stream it becomes so beautiful, lined with wildflowers, that you feel you stepped into some kind of movie or dream. Those few minutes became one of the top highlights of the three-week tour of the British Isles. A simple walk through the woods could provide a transcendental experience.

Drove 2 hours and 30 minutes from Birmingham, to Lake District, and explored for the first time Windermere and Ambleside.
It’s one of the most beautiful places I have visited so far in UK. Once I reached Windermere, I took a cruise up to the north of the lake in Amble side. This was a 45 minutes journey on the lake which offered some mesmerizing views.
I will surely return to this place, stay for a longer period of time and explore the mountains as well.

Ambleside to Dalegarth over Wrynose & Hardknott Passes
Join us as we drive through the heart of the English Lake District from the town of Ambleside to the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway station at Dalegarth in Eskdale, Cumbria via Langdale, Wrynose Pass and Hardknott Pass.
The journey typically takes 45-50 minutes in normal traffic conditions with no delays. This journey should not be attempted in winter conditions even with an off-road vehicle and is not advisable in any adverse weather conditions.
For those that brave the narrow, single-track roads, 1 in 3 slopes, severe hairpin bends and pot-holed road surfaces, the rewards are great. This is some of the most beautiful scenery in the British Isles. The Ravenglass and Eskdale railway itself is a gem of a narrow gauge railway running about 7.5 miles from Dalegarth to the coastal village of Ravenglass; a peaceful and historic place with the remains of a Roman settlement.
The video was recorded on my car's high definition (HD) dash cam (a Mobius ActionCam) with wide angle lens and is composed of seventeen segments which are speeded up either 4x or 8x.

Hi everyone! I have explored multiple Places on Day 3 i.e., Cruise Journey of the largest and deepest Lake called Windermere Lake, Bowness and Coniston etc, all these major places will come in multiple parts. I have started my Journey towards Windermere but on the way, I met with so many spectacular places, This Video stores beautiful scenes for instance waterfalls, Grasmere where tourist can spend some quality time, explore the famous graveyard and Hike the mountains. Moreover, I have started my cruise Journey from Ambleside to Bowness that will cover entire Windermere Lake but the cruise journey will be completed in my next video. Also, I have shared small information regarding parking place in Ambleside but if you travel locally then that’s not a problem there are buses available as transport system is really very good in Lake District and of course that has another advantage because in that case you don’t need to worry about parking area at all.

Beautiful Drives: Ambleside to Ullswater via Kirkstone Pass
Kirkstone Pass is found in the Lake District, Cumbria, North West England. This is our journey from Ambleside to Ullswater using Kirkstone Road before joining the Kirkstone Pass.
Our journey starts at Rydal Road Car Park in Ambleside before joining Kirkstone Road and driving along what is quaintly called The Struggle. After about 3.7 miles we turn left on to Kirkstone Pass [A592] where the Kirkstone Pass Inn can be found. We then continue along the Kirkstone Pass, through Patterdale and Glenridding before stopping at the entrance to Glencoyne Farm by the banks of Ullswater.
Kirkstone Pass has an altitude of 1489ft and is the highest road open to motor traffic in the Lake District. In places the road is as step as 1 in 4 so be warned, this is not a drive to tackle in the
winter or if you lack confidence in yourself or your vehicle.
Helvellyn, The Lake District, England
(Please reduce the screen image size for better quality.) An ascent of Helvellyn, England's third highest mountain. The climb starts in Patterdale and ascends to the 'Hole in The Wall', taking in views of the southern part of the Helvellyn range. The climb then crosses Striding Edge to the summit of Helvellyn, descending via Swirral Edge, before taking in the summit of Catstye Cam and the view over Ullswater. The descent then takes in the view of Helvellyn from Red Tarn, before returning to The Hole in The Wall. NB: Sadly, two people have recently died on Striding Edge due to the adverse weather conditions (January 2008). Please equip yourself properly and take great care if attempting the climb in the winter.

Hi, I just had to share this video. Sorry this has been taken by mobile and it has only few clips. But in the end are the postcodes for 2 days. We stayed at Wigton, rented a caravan by the beach, thats why you'll see the pint 1 and the last point is from there. use the same route by typing these postcodes and you will have a very good drive through nature. We took many stops just for pictures and to cherish the mountains and lakes. You should try the gingerbread shop, and Daffodil Garden, there is also the grave of William Wordsworth and his family, the Castlerigg stone circle is in the center of many mountains and very picturesque. We had the place to our self in the evening. Motor boating, horse riding, Go karting were all very exciting too. We leave at 10am each day and be back by 5pm. we did a 3rd day journey too. Bikepacking through the Lake District | cycleourworld ep.1
A couple of weeks ago I started our world tour in Scotland, sadly without Nadja for the first part of the trip. I travelled to my start point by train, with a night of wild camping in Belgium on the way. This was my first time away in the wild for an extended period of time, and was a real shock to the system. The next episode sees me head into Snowdonia National Park in Wales during a heatwave. Thanks for watching!
