Hiking at Killiney Hill Dublin Ireland
Hiking at Killiney Hill Dublin Ireland
Killiney Hill (Irish: Cnoc Chill Iníon Léinín) is the southernmost of the two hills which form the southern boundary of Dublin Bay (the other being Dalkey Hill). Crowned by an obelisk, the hill is 153 metres high and has views over the surrounding areas: Dublin to the northwest; the Irish Sea and the mountains of Wales (on a clear day) to the east and southeast; and Bray Head and the Wicklow Mountains to the south. The hill was higher in the past but material was removed from the summit for the construction of the pier at Dún Laoghaire.

Ireland - How to Explore the Cliffs of Moher - Hiking 12km cliff top trail with kids
Hiking the cliffs of moher is best done (in our opinion) from south to north. You can start at the town of Liscannor and walk the roads or start at the Hags Head parking area and shave a few kilometers off. By staying in Doolin and taking the PaddyWagon shuttlebus to the trailhead, we ensured that we were at a handy pub at the end of the hike instead of waiting around for a bus. About midway down is the Cliffs of Moher visitor center which was very nice but very crowded. They do have bathrooms and restaurants which is also handy. Luckily that was the only location on the trail that was remotely crowded. Make sure to take rain gear. We had mostly lovely sunny weather but got rained on for three brief but heavy storms that blew through and were glad to have good boots and rain jackets and pants.
The advantage of having a rental car is mobility and in Ireland we found that to be key. While you can get a shuttle bus or day tour from dublin or galway to the Irish Cliffs of Moher we drove and were able to stop briefly at the Rock of Cashel in county Tipperary (it wasn't that long). After that we made our way to the famous cliffs of moher town
of Doolin Ireland where we stayed at the Doolin Hostel which also has a hotel section and free breakfast. You could also choose to rent a local cottage but the hostel was in our price range and right next to the end of the trail. From Dublin to the Cliffs of Moher is only a few hours drive through some curvy narrow Irish roads and while the cliffs are not in the Ring of Kerry, they aren't too far from Galway either. You could also choose to catch a ferry out to the Arran Islands but we didn't have time.
You may recognize the cliffs of moher from the movies, having been included in Harry Potter as well as starring as the cliffs of insanity in the Princess Bride. If you are wondering where are the cliffs of moher location is north west of Galway in county Claire on the western coast of Ireland. The Burren national park is also nearby and one of the top places to see in Ireland. It's a rural area and simply beautiful.

Day 1 - Walking Around Ireland | From Dublin to the Wicklow Way
I am hiking from Dublin to the Great Blasket Islands in Co. Kerry. I will be sleeping in a tent and it will take approx 30 days to complete the 600km+ journey. Most of this trail is known as “Coast to Coast” but I have always had a fascination and urge to pitch my tent on the Great Blasket Island which is why I will head north upon reaching Killarney.
And in case you might be asking yourself, I am walking to the Great Blasket Islands because I really enjoy walking.
