Film City Mumbai Tour, IS IT WORTH ₹3000?
After checking out the Bollywood stars' houses in Mumbai in the last vlog, I head to Film City Mumbai to see where Bollywood films are made. I take the Film City Tour and give you a review of whether it's worth ₹3000 or not.
The amount of Bollywood movies shot here at Film City Goregaon is incredible as are some of the sets you get to walk around, like that of Baghban, Singham, Deewar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and more. The most interesting two areas as the temple set and the outdoor set with 3 houses - both are used in countless Bollywood films.
The tour costs ₹3000 ($49 online) for foreigners and ₹650 for Indians.

Bollywood studio tours launched
BOLLYWOOD STUDIO TOURS LAUNCHED
Movie fans visiting Mumbai, India's entertainment capital, are being offered the chance to see the Bollywood filmmaking process up close.
Guided studio tours have been launched by Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation, taking tourists to see elaborate outdoor sets and even witness filming in progress in one of the biggest film and television industries in the world.
The tours are run in collaboration with Mumbai's largest studio complex, Dadasaheb Phalke Chitra Nagri - or Film City - located in the western suburb of Goregaon.
Film City was built by the Maharastra state government in 1978 to help the Bollywood film industry and provide various production facilities.
Mumbai is a tourist City and can become a good tourist center as we have so many good locations here, said managing director of the Film City, Laxmikant Deshmukh, The film industry can make a lot of contribution but so far there was no platform to showcase it to the people, so this film city can be an excellent platform.
The tourists can be driven through Film City, an integrated studio complex where hundreds of Bollywood movies are shot every year.
And if they are lucky, they may spot their favourite movie or TV stars on the sets during live shoots.
The sprawling complex covers nearly 350 acres and comes fully equipped with almost 20 indoor studios, as well as outdoor settings for filming.
Tourist guide Unnati Manekari said Bollywood tours will include different packages - from economy to high-end, priced between $10 to $60 (US Dollars).
In this tour you could possibly see all of Film City, says Manekari. There will be another module where you could see actual live shooting taking place, there will be a third module where you would have opportunity to meet the stars and take pictures with them, so there are three different modules that are there, so in a tour basically what you can expect is to be really exposed to what Bollywood is all about, what filmmaking is all about. Besides the glamour aspect of it, you can also get the opportunity to be exposed to the technical aspect of movie making.
Over 100 Hindi-language movies are produced in Mumbai each year.
Many famous films have been shot on the sets and locations at Film City, including blockbusters Kal Ho Naa Ho in 2003 and Devdas in 2002.
Almost all Hindi movie production houses have used Film City over the past several decades, including Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, Mukta Arts, Sanjay Leela Bhansali Films, Sippy Films and Rajshri films.
It is also a popular choice to shoot television series and reality shows.
Chairman of Bollywood Tourism, Manoj Gursahani, feels its an obvious step for Mumbai.
If the Universal Studios in America can do it, and various other studios worldwide, why can't India, and especially Bombay which is the mecca of Bollywood, can also do it.
As well as Bollywood fans in India, tour operators also hope to popularise the tours among Bollywood fans around the world.
One of the first tourists to sample the tour, Ravita, was impressed.
Until today, I didn't know that in Mumbai there is so much so many shoots happening, which we are seeing at so many different locations . It was a lovely experience - I had never thought that there could be such a tour and we could see so many shoots, she said.
A new Bollywood Museum and the costume gallery at Film City is also on the anvil, where tourists can see costumes and props used in popular movies.

Film City Mumbai Tour Review: Is it really worth it!!
My Review on the Film City Tour that has been started at Mumbai. Check this video if you are planning to visit it to find out whether it's really worth for you or not.
Mumbai India - A Visit to Dharavi
Mumbai India - it's been awesome. We wound up in Dharavi, which I definitely did not see coming. Help me make better videos at and then find me on the internet in all of the usual spots:

My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa and hoping to make the city of light my home base - at least for the foreseeable future. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlog daily, and love pizza a little too much.
Links below to Amazon are affiliate links - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)
FAQ:
How long have you lived in France? On and off for over two years.
What do you miss most about ho- NACHOS
You're always talking about living on some ship. WHAT SHIP? - I made a Draw My Life video that explains a lot here:
Where are you from originally? - Pullman, Washington - a small university/agricultural town near Idaho (and yes, the potatoes are amazing).
What do you film with? - I currently film almost exclusively with my Samsung Galaxy S8:
How do you get those shots where you're walking or running? - A Joby Gorillapod for smartphones, like this:
You drop your phone a lot, how does it survive? - THIS CASE IS AMAZING: (Galaxy S7) - (Galaxy S8) - (iPhone)
What do you edit with? - Adobe Premiere - it's pretty much all I've ever used since high school.
Aren't you ever freaked out by leaving your camera behind to film yourself? - Yep. But not too badly - I tend to be careful when I do.
Why are you living in #Paris? - Because I've always wanted to; I feel at home here:
But what are you doing there? - Living it up!
Do you speak French? Oui.
You talk a lot about the books you're working on, what are they about? - They're sci-fi (and fantasy) and I've got a decent pitch for you here:
Do you make money off YouTube? - Ha, no. I wish. It took me over 500 videos to make my first $100 off adsense. I think it will slowly change, but VERY slowly.
I really enjoy your videos, how can I support you? - The easiest and best way to support me is through Patreon, where you can pitch in as little as $1/mo to help me make better videos:
I don't trust this Patreon thing - what's your PayPal? - Here's a handy link!
I like PayPal in pink! - Here's my ko-fi if that's your thing (and coffee is your game):
But I want to send you something tangible! - I do have a wishlist on Amazon, though it's a bit complicated with the international shipping situation. This is the US one:
And here's the French one:
Can I come stay with you in Paris? - Have you seen my apartment? It's too small for me as it is!
OK, but how do I use the Metro when I'm there? - I made a handy video for you:

DADASAHEB PHALKE CHITRANAGRI
Film City
Goregaon east
Mumbai
Maharashtra
Film City is an integrated film studio complex situated near Sanjay Gandhi National Park at Goregaon East, Mumbai in India. It has several recording rooms, gardens, lakes, theaters and grounds that serve as the venue of many Bollywood film shootings. It was built in 1977 by the state government to provide facilities and concessions to the film industry. The plan for Film City was prepared and executed under the guidance of V. Shantaram. It was renamed Dadasaheb Phalke Nagar in 2001 in memory of India's first producer-director-screenwriter Dadasaheb Phalke, who is considered father of Indian film industry. It has been the shooting location for almost all Bollywood films. It has all types of location available for shooting including a temple, prison, court, lake, mountains, fountains, villages, picnic spots, garden and even a man-made waterfall.
Approximately 800 people are said to be working in the studio's eight filming locations on any given day.
Tours
In 2014, the tourism board of the Maharashtra state government launched guided tours of the studio for the public, each ticket costing INR 650.
Leopard attacks
In August 2017, Film City was closed for 8 days as a result of five leopard attacks in the previous days.
DADASAHEB PHALKE
Dhundiraj Govind Phalke, popularly known as Dadasaheb Phalke (About this soundpronunciation (help·info)) (30 April 1870 – 16 February 1944), was an Indian producer-director-screenwriter, known as the Father of Indian cinema.[1] His debut film, Raja Harishchandra, which was the first Marathi cinema, was the first Indian movie in 1913, and is now known as India's first full-length feature. He made 95 feature-length films and 27 short films in his career, spanning 19 years, until 1937, including his most noted works: Mohini Bhasmasur (1913), Satyavan Savitri (1914), Lanka Dahan (1917), Shri Krishna Janma (1918) and Kaliya Mardan (1919).
Saraswatibai Phalke
(m. 1902; his death 1944)
The Dadasaheb Phalke Award, for lifetime contribution to cinema, was instituted in his honour by the Government of India in 1969. The award is one of the most prestigious awards in Indian cinema and is the highest official recognition for film personalities in the country.[2] A postage stamp bearing his likeness was released by India Post to honour him in 1971. An honorary award from the Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Mumbai was introduced in the year 2001, for lifetime achievement in Indian cinema.[3]
Dhundiraj Phalke was born on 30 April 1870 at Trimbak, Maharashtra (then Bombay Presidency) into a Marathi-speaking Chitpavan Brahmin family.[4][5] His father, Govind Sadashiv alias Dajishastri, was a Sanskrit scholar and worked as a priest conducting religious ceremonies and his mother, Dwarkabai, was a housewife. The couple had seven children, three sons and four daughters. Shivrampant, the eldest, was twelve years elder than Phalke and worked in Baroda. He briefly worked as the Dewan (Chief Administrator) of the princely state of Jawhar and died in 1921, at the age of 63. Phalke's second brother, Raghunathrao, also worked as priest and died at a young age of 21. Dajishastri taught Phalke to conduct religious rituals like yajna and dispensing of medicines. When he was appointed as a professor of Sanskrit in the Wilson College, Mumbai, the family shifted its base to Mumbai (then Bombay). Phalke completed his primary education in Trimbakeshwar and matriculation was done in Mumbai.[6]
Phalke joined the Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai in 1885 and completed a one-year course in drawing.[7] At the beginning of 1886, he accompanied his elder brother, Shivrampant, to Baroda where he got married to a girl from Marathe family. Later, he joined Kala Bhavan, the Faculty of Fine Arts, at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda and completed a course in Oil painting and Watercolor painting in 1890. He also achieved proficiency in architecture and modelling. In the same year, Phalke bought a film camera and started experimenting with photography, processing, and printing.[8][9] He was awarded a gold medal for creating a model of an ideal theatre at the 1892 Industrial Exhibition of Ahmedabad. While his work was much appreciated, one of his fans presented him a costly camera, used for still photography.
