48 hours of travel | Chiang Mai - Bangkok - Koh Samui
After we finish 6 days on the Mae Hong Son Loop, we head back to Chiang Mai because it's time to start heading south.
We don't have anything booked yet but our plan it to head to Bangkok tonight on an overnight bus. We have heard from multiple locals that the NCA buses are very nice and would be our best option.
There is actually a call center that we call to book our tickets. They give us a reference number and tell us we have to go pick up our tickets within 30 minutes at a 711. Luckily 711's are everywhere in Chiang Mai so we easily find one to pay for and and receive our ticket voucher.
It was a pretty simple and convenient process and we are equally as impressed with the quality of the bus. The bus has decent reclining seats, TVs, and a bathroom. We are also given blankets, water, dinner and snacks! 10 or so hours later, we make it to Bangkok.
We only plan to spend a couple days in Bangkok because we are trying to make it down to the islands. After getting in from the night bus, we take it easy on day 1. And in attempts to avoid a 2nd night bus in 48 hours, we head to the bus station on day 2 in the morning to see if there is a day bus we can get on.
We unfortunately don't have much success in finding a day bus and we book yet another night bus with Transport Co that is actually going to get us from Bangkok all the way to our final destination of Koh Samui.
The good news is we now have a few hours to explore a little of Bangkok and there is a floating market nearby we had read about.
We store our bags at the bus station and head to the Khlong Lat Mayom Floating Market. This market is HUGE and while most of it is on solid ground, there is a small canal where there are several boats selling fresh produce and food prepared right on the boats!
We end up spending 5 + hours at the market wandering around and trying different things and then it's time to head back to the bus station for our 8PM bus.
The bus takes around 10 hours to get to Surat Thani where we then get on a 1.5 hour ferry. After 2 very long travel days, we have made it to our final destination of Koh Samui!!

Unique Experiences in Thailand: THE CHIANG MAI LANTERN FESTIVAL
New: NYC GUIDE | CHINATOWN: Your PERFECT One-Day Itinerary
--~--
The Chiang Mai (Yi Peng) Lantern Festival is the most magical experience you can have in Thailand. During this weekend, thousands of fire lit lanterns float into the sky and a beautiful parade takes over the streets. I went with my friend Jen (The Travel Women) to see what the local's do on this special night in November.

20 Things to do in Chiang Mai, Thailand Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Today we’re taking you around a city that we’ve been to many times before: Chiang Mai. Located in the heart of Northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is a growing city with laid back vibes, temples sprinkled around every corner, and a foodie scene that will make you drool. This is a destination where you come to unwind and that’s exactly what we did during our month long visit. Now let’s get started with this tour of Chiang Mai (清邁) so you can see what this city is all about:
One of the best things you can do in Chiang Mai is ditch the map and get lost inside the old city. It’s along the quiet back lanes that you’ll find cozy cafes, terracotta gardens, unvisited temples, and a little flavour of the old Chiang Mai.
As you’ve probably figured out, we’re not really into nightlife, but Chiang Mai does have lots of bars where you can enjoy a drink or two. We kept things light with a Chang beer.
And that’s a wrap for our visit to Chiang Mai, Thailand. We hope this video gave you a little taste of what this city is all about. We’ll be the first to tell you that we barely scratched the surface in terms of everything Chiang Mai (清迈) has to offer, but that being said, the goal of our time here was to relax, eat well, see friends, and catch up on work. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do, places to visit, and restaurants to eat at, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below. Until next time!
This is part of our Travel in Thailand video series showcasing Thai food, Thai culture and Thai cuisine.

A Day in Doi Suthep National Park, Chiang Mai, Thailand
A day in Doi Suthep National Park, Chiang Mai, Thailand
Golden Triangle Thailand
The Golden Triangle in Thailand is a surreal kind of place; it's just surreal to realise that you are standing in Thailand and yet just across the Mekong River is both Myanmar (formally Burma) and Laos.

Golden Triangle: THAILAND-LAOS-MYANMAR (Thailand Travel Vlog)
A day at the GOLDEN TRIANGLE in Chiang Rai, Thailand.
We started the day by visiting Choui Tea Farm in The hills of Chiang Rai. It is a very peaceful place. I would love to go back there and stay for a day, sit, and sip some delicious tea! We rode a songthaew ( going up there. It was quite interesting. After a morning of relaxation, we headed to the Thai-Burma (now Myanmar) border. There is a narrow bridge that connects the two countries which is called the Thai-Burma Friendship Bridge. It was very interesting seeing the Burmese cross the border to Thailand. If you're looking to shop, this is the place to be! Everything you need is here. Souvenirs, jewelries, toys, clothes, food, etc. They sell these stuff for a very cheap price, and yes, you can still haggle! We had a quick Thai lunch after that, and then we went to the Laos-Thai border. There you have to cross the infamous Mekong river. We took a boat ride to Laos.
Thailand Travel Vlog 2 | Exploring Chiang Mai's Local Markets
Seeing how the locals shop and live day to day is an interesting part of any culture. While in Chiang Mai Alex and I found ourselves immersed in the Warorot Market in the heart of Chinatown Chiang Mai. This is a must see if you are interested in preparing your own food while traveling, or just to see how another culture lives their normal life!
After we explored part of the old city and found some lunch before heading back to take a break from the heat and sun!

THAILAND TRIP - CHIANG MAI #2
Terminámos o dia ... a comer.
CHIANG MAI's MUST SEE TEMPLE!! - DOI SUTHEP - Thailand
We checked out the temple on #DoiSuthep which is one of the most famous temples located in #ChiangMai Thailand! This gorgeous golden temple is a sacred and iconic site for many Thai people. The temple also has an amazing viewpoint platform looking over the city of Chiang Mai. Check out our morning trip to a must see them in Chiang Mai, #WatPhraThatDoiSuthep!!

2019 THAILAND TRIP Part 1 - Bangkok & Chiang Mai
#THAILAND #TRIP #BANGKOK #CHIANGMAI
E assim começou a nossa primeira viagem no continente Asiático!

Beautiful Lantern Festival - Yi Peng - Thailand Holiday - Chiang Mai
Lantern Festival before Loy Krathong. Yee Peng Festival in Chiang Mai (sometimes written as 'Yi Peng') is celebrated on the full moon of the twelfth lunar month ever year, which normally means mid-way through November, but this can vary.
In Chiang Mai, the ancient capital of the former Lanna Kingdom, Loi Krathong coincides with the Lanna (northern Thai) festival known as 'Yi Peng' where a multitude of Lanna-style sky lanterns adorned with good luck wishes and prayer are released into the sky.
