It is an exhibition about the game and the return to childhood. It is an exhibition with works of art of contemporary Greek artists who accepted the invitation of the Alma Art Gallery to compose and present original and imaginative works of art. The game constitutes the children’s right and it is of fundamental significance for the mould of the personality, the safekeeping of their physical, emotional and psychological health, offers joy, pleasure and entertainment, creates bonds, boosts self-confidence and cooperation, improves the skills of socializing and interaction. The man’s tendency to play is innate and o vital significance for the cultural evolution. The game has always claimed its own leading role in human life. Every civilization, from the ancient to the modern ones, has its own games, which constitute eloquent testimonies and capture philosophies and attitudes towards life. Yet, the game has always opened itself to enjoyment and liberation.

The mansion was built during the 1950s as part of the post-war reconstruction of Northern Greece. The project was carried out by the Ministry of Public Works on land donated by the Ministry of National Defence. Upon completion, it was given to the Ministry for Northern Greece to serve as the official residence of the Minister.
In 1963, it was transferred to the Greek Royal Family for use as an official royal residence during visits to Macedonia. However, the Royal Family spent only one night in the palace. The family preferred instead to stay at the old Méditerranée Hotel (located directly on the city center's seafront) during their stays in the city.
In 1968, following the exile of the Royal Family to Italy due to the military junta, it was returned to the Ministry for Northern Greece. It housed various (but not all) Ministers for Northern Greece (later Ministers for Macedonia-Thrace) from 1968 until 2006. It was here that the incumbent Minister hosted the annual reception for the opening of the Thessaloniki International Fair. In 1997, as part of the events celebrating Thessaloniki as the European Capital of Culture, the mansion hosted a major exhibition of works by Caravaggio. The mansion's most notable visitor was Konstantinos Karamanlis who loyally stayed at the residence during his visits to the area while serving as Prime Minister and later President of Greece.
The last Minister to occupy the residence was Nikos Tsiartsionis who criticized the mansion as a sign of opulence which ran counter to his party's platform. In 2006, his successor, Georgios Kalantzis, closed the mansion for renovations which have yet to occur.
Today, the property is guarded and the grounds are maintained but the building has no specific purpose and is in need of extensive renovation. The grounds and the courtyard are used periodically for concerts, gallery exhibitions or expositions which take advantage of the building as an architectural backdrop, and its impressive seafront location. Use of the property is shared between the Ministry of Macedonia and Thrace (the legal owner) and the municipality of Kalamaria.
When the mansion was closed in 2006, the Thessaloniki Prefecture estimated that €3,800,000 was needed solely to upgrade the mansion's critical systems (electric, hydraulic, plumbing etc). Since then, due to the permeation of moisture into the mansion, most of the building's contents including all of the paintings, carpets, artwork and objects d'art have been moved to warehouses or have been loaned to museums. The basic furnishing have been wrapped in plastic and stacked in their respective rooms. No renovation/restoration work has begun.

An aerial view of Larisa, Greece
Larissa holds a central position in the country, since it’s situated on the main transport axis of Greece, connecting Athens and Thessaloniki, while the airport of Central Greece is less than an hour away.
The river Pinios runs through the north part of the city and it is a meeting point for people who enjoy nature, walking, hiking and biking.
The city of Larissa has a history of 8.000 years, with two ancient theaters within its urban structure, while it also has an important current cultural history and infrastructure - the famous first regional Municipality Theatre, The Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa - G.I. Katsigras Museum, with a significant art collection and art workshops for children, the Ethnographical Historical Museum of Larissa and the Archaeological & Byzantine Museum of Larissa, the Municipal Conservatory, the International Film Festival of Larissa / Artfools every spring, the Cultural Festival of Pinios in June, to name a few.
Larissa is a very youthful and live city, with many cafés, restaurants and taverns, situated by the most part in the pedestrian centre, along with a very active commercial centre and in walking distance from many of the city’s historic monuments.
It’s a city full of cultural activities and events, such as amateurish theatrical scenes, a live scene of music bands and choirs, the symphonic orchestra and the philharmonic, very active local culture associations of folklore music and dance, a well known photography club and galleries that promote the very productive local artists. The Municipality of Larissa has also a long tradition in operating District Culture Clubs for arts and crafts for both children and adults, a famous Puppet Troupe – Tiritompa – that operates the only Puppet Museum in Greece and the Municipal School of Ballet that has showcased prominent dancers.
Sports are largely supported in the city, with a significant infrastructure of sports facilities, as well as athletic events. The Municipality of Larissa has created several and fully equipped sports facilities, which are ready to accept all citizens and accommodate any kind of event. In more than 10 district sports centers the Municipality supports Sports Academies, organizes Students’ and Local Associations’ Sports Championships and hosts athletic events throughout the year (RunGreece-Larissa, the event Run Pinios, the Half Marathon race Tirnavos - Larissa, the Hippocratic swimming races, Panthessalian track events for the Disabled, etc.)

Yannis Kondaratos, Paintings, Medusa Art Gallery , Athens
On Thursday, April 27 at 8.00 in the evening Maria Demetriades presents the solo exhibition of Yannis Kondaratos at the Medusa Art Gallery.
In his second solo exhibition at the Medusa Art Gallery, the artist continues to develop further the elliptical visual language that we have come to know in previous exhibitions of his work: the overall composition is symmetrically arranged around a central axis, the contour is clear and precise, and the range of colors used alternates between subtle or more pronounced. There is an abstract element to the work that seems to thwart all attempts towards a univocal interpretation of the various forms presented. The curvilinear, organic patterns that stand out over a hazy background retain an enigmatic quality. However, in some paintings of the new series, Kondaratos introduces some narrative motives. Human figures with hidden visages are standing face to face or back to back in an ambiguous relation. It is up to the viewer to decide whether the figures and body parts are active or passive, simply observe or aim at us.
Yannis Kondaratos was born in Athens, 1968. He has studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA, 1987-1992). In 1991, with anErasmus exchange scholarship he attended courses at Middlessex Polytechnic, London. Since 2012 he holds a doctorate degree (PhD) from the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences, Athens and is currently an assistant professor at ASFA. He has presented his work in six solo exhibitions (Municipal Cultural Center “Technopolis” 1998, Athens Gallery M. Liacopoulou 2002, Contemporary Art Center Ileana Tounta 2006, About Art Gallery 2010, Medusa Art Gallery 2015, Alpha C.K. Art Gallery 2016) and in many group exhibitions. He has also participated in scientific conferences and he has published books and texts on art.
