The Ditsong National Museum of Natural History AKA The Transvaal Museum
The Transvaal Museum is South Africa's leading natural history museum. It provides a memorable experience for the whole family and is open 7 days a week.
Transvaal Museum Mammal Hall in Pretoria The Transvaal Museum was founded in 1892. The museum changed locations a number of times as its collection grew. By 1925 the museum moved to its current location, a beautiful sandstone building on Paul Kruger Street. The entrance of this imposing building is decorated with the skeletons of dinosaurs and even a whale.
Some of the collection of the museum, which remained behind in its former location in Boom Street, became known as the National Cultural History Museum in 1964.
The museum currently houses a vast taxidermy collection as well as a number of fossils.
There are four exhibition halls:
Genesis of Life I and II provides a journey through the development of the animal kingdom, from single-celled organisms, right through the human beings. The Genesis of Life II hall is also known as the Mammal Hall.
The Austin Roberts Bird Hall holds a collection of Southern African birds, arranged according to their number in the Roberts Bird Guide. General information on migration, feeding and flight of birds can also be seen in this very well arranged hall.
The Geoscience Museum is a comprehensive collection of different minerals, crystals, and gemstones in Southern Africa, provided by the Council for Geoscience. Where such minerals can be found, as well as what they are used for is thoroughly described in this hall.
There is also a Discovery Centre on the property which provides a hands-on experience to make learning about nature and science more enjoyable.
Night Tours, Science Magic shows and a behind the scenes tour of the Research Department are provided.

The South African National War Museum in Johannesburg was officially opened by Prime Minister Jan Smuts on 29 August 1947 to preserve the history of South Africa's involvement in the Second World War. In 1975, the museum was renamed the South African National Museum of Military History and its function changed to include all conflicts that South Africa has been involved in. In 1999 it was amalgamated with the Pretoria-based Transvaal Museum and National Cultural History Museum to form the NFI. In April 2010 Ditsong was officially renamed Ditsong Museums of South Africa and the SANMMH was renamed the Ditsong National Museum of Military History.

The Transvaal Museum (also known as Ditsong National Museum of Natural History) is situated in Pretoria, South Africa. This Museum has a collection of the following: Hominid fossils, Skeletons, Specimens of amphibians, Fish, Reptiles and Invertebrates and mammals
Union Building
This building name comes from the time of the South African Union which was only changed in 1961 to the current name, the Republic of South African. Since the very first free elections for all and common elections in South Africa in 1994 the Union Building has been the residence of the presidency and his government.
Voortrekker Monument
The Voortrekker Monument is situated in the northern part of South Africa in Pretoria (Tshwane) region in a nature reserve. It is a unique Monument which commemorates the Pioneer history of Southern Africa and the history of the Afrikaner and is situated in a beautiful setting. Today it is the most visited heritage site of its kind in Gauteng and one of the top ten cultural historical visitor attractions in the country. The Monument also manages the Blood River Heritage Site.
Paul Kruger or Church Square
Paul Kruger or Church Square is situated in central of Pretoria. This was the site of the city’s first church which was built in 1855. During its early years the square was used as a marketplace and sports field and today is the grandest civic square in the city and among the great attractions in Gauteng. This is for visitors who adore 19th century and early 20th century architecture. The square is surrounded by historical buildings in varying neo-classical architectural styles, including the impressive Palace of Justice where former president Nelson Mandela and several of his comrades were tried and charged for treason during the infamous Rivonia Trial.
Sammy Marks museum
The Sammy Marks Museum is the house of the mining and industrial tycoon, Samuel Marks. He is better known as Sammy Marks. Mr Marks made a significant contribution in the development in South Africa during the 1880’s. His house was declared a National Monument under the legislation. This house consists out of 48 bedrooms, a tennis court and a beautiful garden. Sammy Marks, his nine children and wife lived in the house until 1978.

MAROPENG - THE CRADLE OF HUMANKIND, Johannesburg, South Africa Tourism
Maropeng is the official Visitor Centre of the Cradle of Humankind, one of South Africa’s eight World Heritage Sites and one of the major tourist attractions in South Africa.It's the world's richest hominin site, home to around 40% of the world's human ancestor fossils.The Cradle of Humankind region in South Africa, which is approximately 90 minutes' drive from the Johannesburg city centre.
The exhibition centre takes visitors on a journey of discovery to learn more about the origins of humankind, and is housed in the Tumulus, a unique architectural structure resembling an ancient burial mound. An underground boat ride starts the adventure, taking visitors through the various stages of Earth’s creation. Visitor’s then emerge into the main exhibition halls, where the evolution of humankind is illustrated through fun and interactive displays and games.
More than just an exploration of human origins, the Maropeng exhibition also inspires visitors to be more aware of threats to the environment. The sustainability wall, which runs across the main exhibition room, highlights important facts about modern humans and our consumption of rapidly decreasing natural resources. Maropeng provides visitors with a rare opportunity to view original hominid and dinosaur fossils, as well as ancient artifacts housed in the fossil display room. The collections on display change throughout the year, ensuring there is always something new to see at Maropeng. The area is also home to a diversity of birds, animals and plants, some of which are rare or endangered.

Gold Reef City is an amusement park in Johannesburg, South Africa. Located on an old gold mine which closed in 1971, the park is themed around the gold rush that started in 1886 on the Witwatersrand. Park staff wear period costumes of the 1880s, and the buildings on the park are designed to mimic the same period. There is a museum dedicated to gold mining on the grounds where it is possible to see a gold-containing ore vein and see how real gold is poured into barrels.
There are many attractions at Gold Reef City, including water rides, roller coasters and the famous Gold Reef City Casino. The live shows of Idols South Africa are filmed live in the Hippodrome, a large auditorium based in the park. Gold Reef City is located to the south of the Central Business District off of the M1. It is also the site of the Apartheid Museum.
